Job opens with God and Satan making a wager over one man’s life, then spends 42 chapters watching that man lose his children, his health, and his patience while three friends explain, at length, why he probably had it coming. When God finally shows up, the answer to the question of why the innocent suffer turns out to be: who are you to ask. We worked through every chapter of it, the wager, the suffering, the world’s worst support group, and an ending that resolves remarkably little.
