Be Fruitful and (Don't) Multiply: Patreon Teaser

Be Fruitful and (Don't) Multiply: Patreon Teaser

Hey there, Bible skeptics and seekers! In this special Patreon episode of Sacrilegious Discourse, Husband and Wife delve into the intriguing topic of declining birth rates and its juxtaposition with the biblical command to "be fruitful and multiply." Join us for a lively discussion filled with humor, insights, and a touch of irreverence.

Here's what we're exploring:

1. The Decline of Birth Rates: We dive into the global trend of declining birth rates and question whether it's truly a crisis. Is society on the brink of collapse, or are we simply evolving?

2. Evolving Values: As we strip away economic anxieties and cultural nostalgia, we uncover a complex story about shifting priorities and values. What does a healthy society look like today?

3. The Role of Religion: We examine how traditional religious views on procreation clash with modern-day realities, and how secular perspectives offer a different take on family and fulfillment.

4. Economic Implications: While some argue that fewer births could lead to economic challenges, we explore alternative solutions like advancements in AI and immigration.

5. Personal Choices: The duo discusses the freedom to choose whether or not to have children and how this reflects broader social progress.

Join us as we tackle this multifaceted issue with our signature blend of humor and skepticism. Whether you're here for the thought-provoking discussion or just some laughs, this episode is sure to entertain.

[00:00:00] Welcome to Sacrilegious Discourse.

[00:00:01] For this is what the Sovereign Lord says!

[00:00:04] Why do you need prophets to tell people who you are and what you want?

[00:00:07] If you can justify everything that the God of the Bible has done, then you can justify any of your behavior.

[00:00:14] A lot of this mentality is trickling into what is now mainstream right-wing Christianity.

[00:00:20] I am capable of empathy greater than this God of the Bible.

[00:00:26] This is a Bible that they tell kids. This is the good Lord. This is the good book.

[00:00:32] He is fantasizing about murder, mass murder.

[00:00:37] Head over to SacrilegiousDiscourse.com right now to find out how to leave us a review or support us on Patreon.

[00:00:48] Finn! Wife! Do you know what we're doing today?

[00:00:51] Well, we're doing a special episode. Of Patreon!

[00:00:55] That's right. And to be fair, I don't really know what we're covering today.

[00:01:00] So why don't you lead into this and let everyone know?

[00:01:03] All right. Well, you know how I'm an avid podcast listener?

[00:01:07] I do, yes.

[00:01:08] Yes.

[00:01:09] You listen to so many podcasts.

[00:01:11] I do. And mostly newsy ones, but also like, who cares?

[00:01:15] No, no, no, no. But I have to throw a tidbit in here.

[00:01:17] Yeah.

[00:01:18] And you're going to have to fill in the speed, but wife doesn't just listen to podcasts.

[00:01:21] Mm-hmm.

[00:01:22] She listens to them at...

[00:01:23] 1.8 speed for the most part.

[00:01:26] 1.8 speed.

[00:01:27] Yeah. I've worked up to that though.

[00:01:28] I fucking hate it.

[00:01:29] Oh yeah. I mean, you don't just like walk up and be like, hey, I think out of the blue, I'll start listening.

[00:01:34] I'll go from one to 1.8.

[00:01:36] It sounds like...

[00:01:37] No, you have to work up to it.

[00:01:39] It sounds like audio insanity to me.

[00:01:42] That's because you haven't worked up to it.

[00:01:44] No, I know.

[00:01:44] I didn't start there.

[00:01:45] Look, if you are going to try to work yourself up in speed, start at 1.3 or 1.4 because you can't really tell the difference much between just one and 1.3 or 4.

[00:01:57] Really?

[00:01:58] Yeah.

[00:01:58] Okay.

[00:01:59] It's about the same.

[00:02:00] Okay.

[00:02:00] And then once you become comfortable with that, then you can move it up to five or six, 0.5 or 0.6, you know?

[00:02:08] Got it.

[00:02:08] Yeah.

[00:02:09] Okay.

[00:02:09] And then it depends too.

[00:02:11] Like the ones that don't have an accent or like some hosts talk really fast, like generally speaking, it's 1.8, but there are several that I do slow down and I'm doing that in quotes to 1.6.

[00:02:24] I just feel like you would lose some of the nuance in the talk.

[00:02:27] Well, see, and that's what I'm saying.

[00:02:28] It depends.

[00:02:29] Like if it's news, because I listen to so much news and a lot of it is repetitive.

[00:02:33] Right.

[00:02:34] I listened to almost all of those at 1.8 because I'm like just trying to pick up the gist.

[00:02:39] Sure.

[00:02:39] Right.

[00:02:39] But if I'm like listening to say something that's about writing, like the writerly author type wordy words.

[00:02:50] How to author.

[00:02:52] How to write.

[00:02:53] How to write.

[00:02:53] How to do the things on paper.

[00:02:54] Yeah.

[00:02:55] Well, that I'm actually studying.

[00:02:57] And so I will slow that down to like 1.5.

[00:03:00] Okay.

[00:03:01] Because I'm trying to take in each word.

[00:03:05] Got it.

[00:03:06] So it just depends.

[00:03:07] But anyway.

[00:03:07] Yeah.

[00:03:08] That's all beside the point.

[00:03:09] It is.

[00:03:10] Lengthy intro.

[00:03:11] Right.

[00:03:11] So one of the episodes that I came upon was from the Washington Post opinion columnist.

[00:03:20] They have their own little corner of the world called Impromptu.

[00:03:25] Okay.

[00:03:26] And this particular episode was about the decline in the babbies of the world.

[00:03:34] Like.

[00:03:35] Babbies.

[00:03:35] Babies.

[00:03:36] Okay.

[00:03:37] The.

[00:03:37] Got it.

[00:03:38] So the birth rates are declining.

[00:03:39] And whether that's an emergency or not.

[00:03:41] Okay.

[00:03:42] And then in my funny little brain, I was like, ha, ha, ha, ha, that's completely opposite of be fruitful and multiply.

[00:03:49] Right.

[00:03:49] And then I was like, oh, we're looking for a topic.

[00:03:53] Yeah.

[00:03:54] And so I was like, got it.

[00:03:56] Got it.

[00:03:56] So that's what we're doing.

[00:03:57] You got some good information.

[00:03:58] I did.

[00:03:59] Link the two things.

[00:04:00] Yeah.

[00:04:00] Yeah.

[00:04:01] Okay.

[00:04:01] I do.

[00:04:02] I did.

[00:04:02] I do.

[00:04:03] And so I wrote a little essay on it.

[00:04:06] Okay.

[00:04:07] And then I went through with my, my purple marker and I highlighted it all to fuck.

[00:04:12] I see.

[00:04:13] Yeah.

[00:04:13] Yeah.

[00:04:14] Well, so that is what we are discussing today on our Patreon only episode.

[00:04:19] Mm-hmm.

[00:04:19] So if you are not a patron, you're going to hear a little bit of a teaser today and then

[00:04:24] it's going to cut off at some point and we're going to be like, sorry.

[00:04:28] Um, so if, you know, you want to hear the rest of this, you can always go over to patreon.com

[00:04:32] forward slash sacrilegious discourse, and you can sign up for as little as $2 a month

[00:04:38] and receive all of our episodes ad free and receive our special Patreon episodes.

[00:04:44] Yes.

[00:04:44] Right.

[00:04:45] And then we do these every other week.

[00:04:46] Mm-hmm.

[00:04:47] Um, but here's the other thing.

[00:04:49] You've got one other way you can catch these episodes and you don't have to pay a dime.

[00:04:53] Right.

[00:04:53] What is that way?

[00:04:54] That way is to go to Patreon and no, no, no, nope.

[00:04:59] Oh, to show up on Wednesdays.

[00:05:01] Where?

[00:05:02] At discord.

[00:05:03] At discord.

[00:05:04] Yes.

[00:05:05] Okay.

[00:05:05] Sorry.

[00:05:06] Discord.

[00:05:06] We're going to go to discord now.

[00:05:08] So, um, I thought there was like a trial.

[00:05:10] Did that thing end or something?

[00:05:12] Trial for what?

[00:05:13] I thought there was a Patreon trial thing.

[00:05:15] Did that end?

[00:05:16] Yeah.

[00:05:16] Yeah.

[00:05:17] The trial.

[00:05:18] I ended the trials back when we went to the Kentucky free thought convention because

[00:05:22] Oh, that was a long time ago.

[00:05:24] We were going to use it as like a, whatever.

[00:05:26] There was a thing.

[00:05:26] I'll probably bring trials back at some point.

[00:05:28] Okay.

[00:05:29] Well, that's why I was saying that.

[00:05:30] But there's no trials on Patreon right now.

[00:05:31] Don't go there for a trial.

[00:05:32] Don't go there.

[00:05:32] Nope.

[00:05:33] Nope.

[00:05:34] Wednesdays discord at 10 PM.

[00:05:36] Eastern to hear us live and to yak with us and all of our friends in our little discord

[00:05:42] group.

[00:05:43] And it's so much fun.

[00:05:44] And the link will be in the show notes as always on every new episode.

[00:05:47] And you can be as dumb as I am.

[00:05:49] And it's fine because there's people that'll help you.

[00:05:52] Exactly.

[00:05:52] Although for me, there's just never enough help.

[00:05:55] Clearly.

[00:05:57] All right.

[00:05:58] Are you ready to get into this episode?

[00:05:59] Yeah, let's.

[00:06:00] Let's do it.

[00:06:01] All right.

[00:06:03] All right.

[00:06:07] We are hopping into our Patreon.

[00:06:10] Okay.

[00:06:11] And doing what I, I called this essay, be fruitful and don't multiply.

[00:06:17] I like that.

[00:06:18] Yeah.

[00:06:19] That's, that's good.

[00:06:20] Titling.

[00:06:20] Right.

[00:06:20] You did a good job there.

[00:06:21] I made that up myself.

[00:06:22] Like I did not props on that.

[00:06:25] I'll probably, that's probably going to be the title.

[00:06:26] I did not use any AI for that at all.

[00:06:29] Congratulations.

[00:06:30] Yeah.

[00:06:30] Just so you know, you win today.

[00:06:32] And like, it was my first immediate thought.

[00:06:35] Yeah.

[00:06:35] No, I like it.

[00:06:35] Okay.

[00:06:36] Yeah.

[00:06:36] Okay.

[00:06:36] Cool.

[00:06:37] Cool.

[00:06:37] Cool.

[00:06:37] Cool.

[00:06:37] Cool.

[00:06:38] Cool.

[00:06:38] Cool.

[00:06:38] Cool.

[00:06:54] Cool.

[00:06:54] All right, here we go.

[00:06:55] And just jump in.

[00:06:56] Like I'm going to read the essay that I wrote and you just jump in.

[00:06:58] Just do like we always do.

[00:06:59] You mean?

[00:07:00] Yes, exactly.

[00:07:02] Exactly.

[00:07:03] Okay.

[00:07:03] All right.

[00:07:04] In recent years.

[00:07:05] Recent years.

[00:07:06] There has been increasing concern over declining birth rates, both in the United States

[00:07:13] and globally.

[00:07:13] I don't really understand why it's a concern.

[00:07:16] Yeah, I don't either.

[00:07:17] I'm like, okay, that opens up more jobs.

[00:07:19] There's less resources we have to use.

[00:07:21] I'll get into that.

[00:07:21] There are actually a few good reasons that I had not considered because I hadn't really

[00:07:26] considered.

[00:07:27] Okay.

[00:07:27] All right.

[00:07:27] Like, who cares?

[00:07:29] Less babies.

[00:07:29] Oh, well, wah, wah.

[00:07:30] Right?

[00:07:31] Right.

[00:07:31] Right.

[00:07:31] But there are actually implications of problems that could ensue from that.

[00:07:37] Okay, sure.

[00:07:38] That don't have to do with, are we going extinct?

[00:07:41] No, it's not like that.

[00:07:42] Right.

[00:07:43] Okay.

[00:07:43] Okay.

[00:07:44] While politicians and economists express alarm, often framing this trend as a crisis.

[00:07:51] It's worth asking if fewer babies really is a problem.

[00:07:55] It is.

[00:07:56] I agree.

[00:07:56] It's worth asking if you just did.

[00:07:57] Yeah.

[00:07:57] And the reason that I am stressing some words is because I really liked that I was like,

[00:08:03] increasing concern, declining birth rates, expressing alarm, framing this trend as a crisis.

[00:08:11] Like, it's so dramatic, right?

[00:08:13] Like, we're all going to hell in a hand basket.

[00:08:16] Right.

[00:08:16] Jesus fucking Christ.

[00:08:18] Yeah.

[00:08:18] When will this end?

[00:08:20] Yeah.

[00:08:21] Okay.

[00:08:21] When we step away economic anxieties and cultural nostalgia.

[00:08:27] Uh-huh.

[00:08:27] I really like that.

[00:08:28] What emerges is a more complex story about evolving values and shifting priorities.

[00:08:35] Okay.

[00:08:35] Right?

[00:08:36] Yeah.

[00:08:36] Because our values have changed and our priorities have shifted.

[00:08:39] I mean, you know, the way I see it is that we have a lot, like, we're basically walking into a dystopia, right?

[00:08:47] Mm-hmm.

[00:08:47] Our whole society is walking into a not too far in the distant future dystopia.

[00:08:53] Yeah.

[00:08:53] Right?

[00:08:53] Somehow, some way.

[00:08:55] Yeah.

[00:08:55] We are going to be fucked soon.

[00:08:57] Mm-hmm.

[00:08:58] Like, that's just the way things are going.

[00:08:59] Right.

[00:09:00] And from what I have heard from many of the younger generation, they're like, why would

[00:09:04] I want to bring a kid into this shit?

[00:09:06] Right.

[00:09:07] Well, what I find funny is that, like, just 10 years ago, they were like, oh, my God, we're

[00:09:11] going to grow too many people and there won't be enough resources.

[00:09:14] And that's when the preppers came out and they're like, I'll have my resources.

[00:09:18] We won't be able to feed everybody because there's too many people.

[00:09:22] Well, and I do question because I think we are still growing too fast for a world population.

[00:09:28] Mm-hmm.

[00:09:29] The world population is also going down.

[00:09:31] The world population is going down.

[00:09:32] Yeah.

[00:09:32] Mm-hmm.

[00:09:32] Mm-hmm.

[00:09:32] Mm-hmm.

[00:09:33] The birth rate, not population, but the birth rate globally is decreasing.

[00:09:37] Okay.

[00:09:38] Right.

[00:09:38] Yeah.

[00:09:38] I will cite my sources in the notes.

[00:09:41] Got it.

[00:09:41] Okay.

[00:09:42] Yeah.

[00:09:42] Right.

[00:09:43] So, yeah, that's why I was like, well, which one is it, guys?

[00:09:47] Is it that we aren't going to have enough resources to feed all of us or is it we're all

[00:09:52] going to die out and there won't be any more humans left?

[00:09:55] Sure.

[00:09:55] Like, both?

[00:09:56] Yeah.

[00:09:57] Simultaneously.

[00:09:58] Right.

[00:09:58] You know, kind of like the, there's a meme that I actually showed Kit today, Schrodinger's

[00:10:05] immigrant.

[00:10:06] Oh.

[00:10:07] Um, the Schrodinger's, how do you say it?

[00:10:11] Schrodinger?

[00:10:12] Uh, Schrodinger, yeah.

[00:10:13] I think that's sure.

[00:10:13] Schrodinger's, um, immigrant is both a lazy individual, um, you know, milking off the

[00:10:20] government, sucking at the government teat, taking government monies while they're lazy

[00:10:25] and do nothing, but they're also stealing all the jobs.

[00:10:27] Right.

[00:10:28] They're both.

[00:10:29] You know that it's Schrodinger's cat.

[00:10:31] Yes.

[00:10:31] Okay.

[00:10:31] I just want to make sure.

[00:10:32] Yes.

[00:10:32] I do know that.

[00:10:33] That's why.

[00:10:34] I just didn't know how to pronounce it.

[00:10:37] Well, I'm not sure we're pronouncing it correctly right now even.

[00:10:40] But, I know what Schrodinger's cat is.

[00:10:43] I just want to make sure.

[00:10:44] That's why it's two things, it's existing and not existing simultaneously.

[00:10:48] Right.

[00:10:48] Yes.

[00:10:48] I was trying to make sure that the audience knew.

[00:10:51] Oh, I didn't realize that.

[00:10:52] I'm sorry.

[00:10:53] Okay.

[00:10:53] Okay.

[00:10:54] Oh.

[00:10:54] Thank you.
