Ezekiel Chapter 18: Bible Study by Atheists

Ezekiel Chapter 18: Bible Study by Atheists

In this no-holds-barred episode, our audacious hosts take on the divine courtroom of Ezekiel Chapter 18 with the wit of seasoned skeptics. Get ready for a rollercoaster ride through the highs and lows of biblical justice where divine rules seem more like a cosmic joke. Can we talk about ownership, sin, and the ever-fluctuating whims of a deity who can't seem to make up his mind? Join us as we dissect the biblical flip-flop from generational curses to individual accountability. Warning: this episode contains a hefty dose of sarcasm, critical thinking, and laughter at the expense of ancient texts. If you ever wondered if the prophets were just the influencers of yesteryears, you're in the right place. Tune in, and let's question the almighty logic of Ezekiel's god – because apparently, even divine justice has a trial period.

[00:00:03] Hey everyone, husband here, and I'm Wife. If you've been listening to us

[00:00:07] then you know we're all about reading the Bible and reacting to it on our first read through. Cuss words, crying, laughing and more.

[00:01:16] Welcome to Sacrilegious Discourse.

[00:01:17] I'm husband.

[00:01:18] And I'm wife.

[00:01:19] Together we're reading the Bible for the very first time.

[00:01:22] We grew up without religion and wanted to know what all the fuss was about.

[00:01:26] Well, what have we learned so far?

[00:01:27] That God is a dick and apparently some people believe in talking donkeys.

[00:01:32] We're not trying to pass ourselves off as experts.

[00:01:34] Nope, we're just reading the Bible for the first time and giving our first take reaction.

[00:01:38] If you'd like to join us in this venture, you might consider starting that episode one.

[00:01:42] Otherwise jump in wherever you like.

[00:01:44] Alright, let's go read the Bible.

[00:01:46] Yeah, let's get to it.

[00:01:50] Husband!

[00:01:51] Wife!

[00:01:52] Do you remember what happened yesterday and where the hell we are today?

[00:01:56] Well, I think we had a parable wrapped in a proverb that was about an eagle that was planting seeds,

[00:02:02] but he didn't plant them very well in the one place, which was Nebuchadnezzar.

[00:02:06] And Nezzar, sorry.

[00:02:08] And to the gnar.

[00:02:09] Yeah, my bad.

[00:02:12] But so yeah, there was some planting of seeds of vines and then they grew,

[00:02:15] but they weren't grown great.

[00:02:17] And then God came back and planted more seeds after those were bad

[00:02:20] and he planted them in the high places, which was weird.

[00:02:23] Considering that we're supposed to not like the high places.

[00:02:25] Yeah, right.

[00:02:26] That was definitely weird.

[00:02:27] And then those grew better apparently,

[00:02:29] but then their neighbors had enlarged, you know, dicks.

[00:02:32] Yeah.

[00:02:33] So there's that.

[00:02:34] That was that was I mean, that's what I remember.

[00:02:36] The neighbors have big dicks.

[00:02:37] You got anything else?

[00:02:38] You're right.

[00:02:38] Yeah.

[00:02:39] So that was Ezekiel chapter 17.

[00:02:41] Sure as fuck was.

[00:02:42] And I want to acknowledge real quick here that we do have some more shout outs to do for Patreon,

[00:02:48] which so thank you everybody for jumping on and helping us out with this drive that we're

[00:02:53] doing.

[00:02:54] You guys have been amazing.

[00:02:55] And right now we have been so busy.

[00:02:57] I've been having trouble keeping up with all the things that I need to do.

[00:03:00] So we will be getting more shout outs out very, very soon actually this week.

[00:03:05] So stay tuned for some of those for those of you who are waiting for them.

[00:03:09] And the reason for those shout outs is that we're currently doing a Patreon drive.

[00:03:15] Yes.

[00:03:15] And we're trying to reach a level of $400 a month to get some other things done

[00:03:19] that we need to do for our podcast.

[00:03:20] So if you have the ability to help us out or

[00:03:24] you can even join for a free membership.

[00:03:26] I mean, there are things that we do share some stuff over there for free occasionally.

[00:03:30] But we'd love to have you on Patreon, Discord, all the places that we are.

[00:03:34] Hop over to our website so you can see and track the Patreon drive that we're doing right

[00:03:39] now, which is sacreligidestdiscourse.com.

[00:03:41] And yeah, do those things.

[00:03:43] So that brings us back to we just finished Ezekiel chapter 17.

[00:03:49] And today we're getting into Ezekiel chapter.

[00:03:52] 18.

[00:03:53] All right, let's do this.

[00:03:55] Okie dokie.

[00:04:58] Because every time you make a purchase,

[00:04:59] Bombas donates an item to someone who needs it.

[00:05:02] Go to bombas.com slash a cast and use code A Cast for 20% off your first purchase.

[00:05:07] That's bombas.com slash a cast code a cast.

[00:05:27] All right, we are picking up with Ezekiel chapter 18.

[00:05:48] That we are.

[00:05:49] Here we go.

[00:05:50] Ezekiel chapter 18.

[00:05:51] No, Ezekiel.

[00:05:52] I know.

[00:05:53] I'm aware that that's what we want it to be.

[00:05:56] But I stated out loud so that people don't get confused as fuck when they join us for the first

[00:06:01] time ever.

[00:06:02] They're like, who the fuck's an Ezekiel?

[00:06:04] Well, I mean, I said it correctly in the intro.

[00:06:07] So hopefully they know that I'm just a Dumbo that likes to say whatever I like to say.

[00:06:11] But sometimes maybe people skip the intro.

[00:06:13] They're like, I don't really care about the intro.

[00:06:15] I want to hear the bit.

[00:06:15] Fair enough.

[00:06:16] You know, the whole the main port.

[00:06:17] Fair enough.

[00:06:17] Here's the bit.

[00:06:18] Yeah, the bit.

[00:06:19] When I say Ezekiel, it's because it's more fun than Ezekiel and I need all the

[00:06:24] fun and joy I can bring to my life in all the little ways.

[00:06:27] I mean, that's fair.

[00:06:28] Yeah.

[00:06:29] Okay.

[00:06:29] So the word of the Lord came to me as it does.

[00:06:33] Yeah.

[00:06:34] Yeah.

[00:06:34] Seems to.

[00:06:35] And me.

[00:06:36] I mean, according to the Bible.

[00:06:37] Me being Ezekiel.

[00:06:38] Right.

[00:06:38] Yeah.

[00:06:39] What do you people mean by quoting this proverb about the land of Israel?

[00:06:45] The parents eat sour grapes and the children's teeth are set on edge.

[00:06:50] Oh, okay.

[00:06:51] Okay.

[00:06:51] That's that's about the sins of the father visited on the child or whatever.

[00:06:56] Okay.

[00:06:56] Yeah.

[00:06:57] Okay.

[00:06:57] All right.

[00:06:58] As surely as I live declares the sovereign Lord, you will no longer quote this proverb in Israel.

[00:07:05] That would be nice.

[00:07:06] I would like that.

[00:07:07] I mean, haven't we complained about how that's some unfair bullshit?

[00:07:11] Yeah.

[00:07:12] Yeah.

[00:07:12] For everyone belongs to me, the parent as well as the child, both alike belong to me.

[00:07:19] See, I don't like the idea of bringing ownership into any relationship.

[00:07:22] I don't think you own anybody.

[00:07:23] I think that's a bad way to view a relationship between anybody, let alone a God.

[00:07:33] Like a God should be there to help us or to encourage us or to whatever.

[00:07:40] But this is not what it is.

[00:07:42] It is about ownership.

[00:07:43] Right.

[00:07:43] It is about blind worship.

[00:07:46] It is about just bowing to this deity that needs all the things because he can't fucking exist

[00:07:53] without people praising him all the fucking time.

[00:07:56] Right.

[00:07:56] I mean, even in a parent-child relationship, yeah, you might have jurisdiction over the child,

[00:08:03] but you don't own the child.

[00:08:04] The child's a fucking person who has their own feelings, their own ideas, their own thoughts.

[00:08:09] Well, I think the idea like that idea right there, that idea is where it becomes problematic

[00:08:14] because of the pseudo endorsements of slavery that are throughout the Old Testament as well.

[00:08:21] Like, you know, ownership of people is definitely a concept that they don't shy away from in this book.

[00:08:27] Right.

[00:08:27] And it bothers me.

[00:08:27] And ownership of women, children, slaves, yeah.

[00:08:31] It's all about ownership.

[00:08:32] Yeah.

[00:08:33] Ownership of land and resources.

[00:08:35] Right.

[00:08:35] The entire book is just men being greedy.

[00:08:38] It really is.

[00:08:39] Gross.

[00:08:39] Yeah.

[00:08:40] The one who sins is the one who will die.

[00:08:42] That's the Lord saying that.

[00:08:44] Unless you ask other parts of the Bible.

[00:08:46] And unless you didn't sin in his sight or something?

[00:08:50] Right.

[00:08:51] There's been plenty of stuff that, like, you know, people got smote in the beginning for,

[00:08:57] like, picking up sticks on the wrong fucking day or whatever.

[00:08:59] Right, right.

[00:09:00] And now, like, he's like, meh.

[00:09:02] Well, and people are always like, why don't the wicked get their just dues?

[00:09:08] Right, exactly.

[00:09:08] And they don't sometimes in the Bible.

[00:09:10] Yeah.

[00:09:11] And God's like, they'll get it when they die or whatever.

[00:09:13] Yeah, just, it's not for yours to know.

[00:09:16] Yeah.

[00:09:16] Woo.

[00:09:17] Suppose there is a righteous man who does what is just and right.

[00:09:21] He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look to the idols of Israel.

[00:09:26] He does not defile his neighbor's wife.

[00:09:29] Well, that's good of him.

[00:09:29] That's good of him, yeah.

[00:09:30] Or have sexual relations with a woman during her period.

[00:09:34] That's personal.

[00:09:37] I mean, that's a little bit too specific.

[00:09:39] Right.

[00:09:40] You know, like, I mean, seriously?

[00:09:42] Your wife while she was shedding her uterus.

[00:09:45] God damn you to hell.

[00:09:46] I just, I feel like they're way too preoccupied with sex.

[00:09:50] With genitalia.

[00:09:51] Yeah.

[00:09:51] Yeah.

[00:09:51] It's everywhere.

[00:09:53] Like, how about this?

[00:09:54] Don't worry about it.

[00:09:55] And if a woman wants to fuck while she's on her period and a man is down for it,

[00:09:59] or a woman for that matter is down for it, let them fuck.

[00:10:02] Why is it anybody's business?

[00:10:03] It's nobody's business.

[00:10:05] Right.

[00:10:06] Let people fuck.

[00:10:07] Except the Turks.

[00:10:08] Nobody business but the Turks.

[00:10:09] It is nobody's business but the Turks.

[00:10:12] That's what I hear.

[00:10:13] Right, yeah.

[00:10:14] Because Istanbul was-

[00:10:15] This one's Constantinople.

[00:10:16] Yeah.

[00:10:17] Yeah.

[00:10:18] He does not oppress anyone, but returns what he took and pledged for a loan.

[00:10:22] He's this good guy, you know.

[00:10:23] Okay, yeah.

[00:10:24] He does not commit robbery.

[00:10:26] Oh, I'm so glad.

[00:10:27] Like the bar is so fucking low.

[00:10:28] Yeah.

[00:10:29] But gives his food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked,

[00:10:33] as you should do if you have resources.

[00:10:34] Sure.

[00:10:35] Give to the poor, yeah.

[00:10:36] He does not lend to them at interest or take a profit from them.

[00:10:40] He withholds his hand from doing wrong and judges fairly between two parties.

[00:10:45] So he's a right nice dude.

[00:10:47] Really interesting because they're actually

[00:10:49] harkening back to some ideas that are straight out of like Leviticus and things,

[00:10:54] which we haven't really heard them touch on in a while.

[00:10:56] Right.

[00:10:57] Like the bit about the, you know, having sex on the period and the,

[00:11:00] you know, lending at no interest.

[00:11:02] Yeah.

[00:11:03] And those things have not been talked about for quite a while.

[00:11:05] Do you guys actually even have a copy of the rules anymore?

[00:11:08] Right.

[00:11:08] Well, I mean, obviously somebody.

[00:11:09] Apparently they do.

[00:11:10] Obviously somebody does.

[00:11:11] Yeah.

[00:11:11] Yeah.

[00:11:12] He follows my decrees and faithfully keeps my laws.

[00:11:16] That man is righteous.

[00:11:17] He will surely live, declares the sovereign lord.

[00:11:20] His path is probably pretty straight.

[00:11:21] I'm guessing.

[00:11:22] It's not crooked.

[00:11:23] It's not crooked.

[00:11:23] Yeah.

[00:11:24] But he says that that dude will surely live.

[00:11:27] But I mean, unless he gets bit by a rattlesnake or gets cancer

[00:11:31] or dies in a car accident, like no, he doesn't surely live.

[00:11:35] He surely is a nice guy who probably attracts nice people to him.

[00:11:40] And thus, you know, karma helps him, you know, the more good that you are,

[00:11:46] the more good unto you.

[00:11:47] Well, I think what they're trying, I mean, like every once in a while,

[00:11:50] God or, you know, the Bible tries to say that, you know,

[00:11:53] he's going to protect those who are good.

[00:11:55] And then they're going to be given better things and they're going to do better in life.

[00:11:59] Right.

[00:11:59] Right.

[00:11:59] And I don't think it's at, because there's other points where

[00:12:02] good people have shitty things happen to them.

[00:12:04] Right.

[00:12:05] So it's not true.

[00:12:06] It's just a way for them to describe, hey, if you do this, you're going to get rewarded.

[00:12:11] Right.

[00:12:11] And now when you get right down to it, if somebody the good dies, they're going to be like,

[00:12:16] well, they're going to get rewarded in the afterlife.

[00:12:18] Or, you know, they're going to make up an excuse on the spot as to why this person died

[00:12:23] and, you know, somebody else didn't.

[00:12:25] God's ineffable plan.

[00:12:27] There is no correct answer.

[00:12:29] The answer is whatever sounds good in any given chapter is what's going on here.

[00:12:32] Right.

[00:12:33] So annoying.

[00:12:34] Yeah.

[00:12:35] Suppose he has a violent son who sheds money or I'm sorry, who sheds blood.

[00:12:39] He doesn't shed money.

[00:12:40] I need to be friends with somebody who shed money.

[00:12:42] No, he sheds blood or does any of these things, though the father has done none of them.

[00:12:47] He eats at the mountain shrines.

[00:12:50] Oh, that's kind of a bad man.

[00:12:51] That damn son.

[00:12:52] He defiles his neighbor's wife.

[00:12:54] Wow.

[00:12:55] He sounds like he wasn't raised very well.

[00:12:57] Right.

[00:12:57] I'm just saying.

[00:12:58] I know plenty of good people who did not raise their children very well.

[00:13:01] Yeah.

[00:13:02] You know?

[00:13:02] Yeah.

[00:13:02] Like just because you're a good person doesn't mean you're a good parent quite honestly.

[00:13:07] He oppresses the poor and needy.

[00:13:08] He commits robbery.

[00:13:10] He does not return what he took in pledge.

[00:13:13] He looks to the idols.

[00:13:14] He does detestable things.

[00:13:16] He lends that interest and takes a profit.

[00:13:19] Will such a man live?

[00:13:21] I mean, I don't know.

[00:13:23] He will not.

[00:13:24] Okay.

[00:13:25] All right.

[00:13:26] Because I wasn't sure what the answer was going to be because it could have gone either way.

[00:13:29] It really can go either way.

[00:13:31] I mean, honestly the answer should be don't worry about it.

[00:13:33] That's between me and him.

[00:13:35] Right.

[00:13:35] Right?

[00:13:35] But no, he's like letting you know.

[00:13:37] No way.

[00:13:37] No way.

[00:13:38] I always reward the good.

[00:13:39] I always punish the bad.

[00:13:41] You should always, always, always be good and you'll get the rewards.

[00:13:44] Right.

[00:13:45] Right.

[00:13:45] Like that's what he's trying to say right now.

[00:13:46] Yeah.

[00:13:47] Other times he's like don't worry about it.

[00:13:50] They'll get their dues at some point.

[00:13:51] They'll get theirs and you'll get yours even if you die before you see it.

[00:13:55] Yeah.

[00:13:55] Right.

[00:13:56] He will not because he has done all these detestable things.

[00:13:59] He has to be put to death.

[00:14:01] His blood will be on his own head.

[00:14:04] But suppose this son has a son who sees all the sins his father commits and though he sees them,

[00:14:12] he does not do such things.

[00:14:13] I bet.

[00:14:15] Okay.

[00:14:15] So you're a good kid but your parents sucks.

[00:14:18] Well, I have a feeling that this is going to be okay in this chapter maybe.

[00:14:22] I could be wrong but like in previous chapters,

[00:14:24] you could be punished up to like 10 generations back.

[00:14:27] Yeah.

[00:14:27] I mean like and maybe even more.

[00:14:29] I don't know.

[00:14:29] Like it was there was some crazy like punishment for the sins of your parents, parents, parents,

[00:14:35] parents.

[00:14:36] Right.

[00:14:36] And that's what God's saying not no more.

[00:14:38] I'm doing okay.

[00:14:39] Yeah.

[00:14:40] It's individual.

[00:14:41] Well, this almost sounds like they were like people were like how can we ever dig out of this?

[00:14:46] Right.

[00:14:46] You know and then.

[00:14:47] Like we're in debt of bad.

[00:14:48] And then Ezekiel is like well, God's changed his mind.

[00:14:52] It's better now.

[00:14:53] Actually.

[00:14:54] Okay.

[00:14:57] So this kid, he's so good.

[00:14:58] He does not eat at the mountain shrines or look at the idols of Israel.

[00:15:01] He does not fuck his neighbor's wife.

[00:15:04] He does not oppress anyone or require a pledge for a loan.

[00:15:07] Yeah.

[00:15:08] He does not commit robbery.

[00:15:10] He gives food to the hungry and provides clothing for the naked.

[00:15:14] He withholds.

[00:15:14] I mean we've already read all this.

[00:15:16] Yeah.

[00:15:16] He's a good guy right?

[00:15:17] He's good.

[00:15:17] Yeah.

[00:15:17] He withholds his hand from mistreating the poor and takes no interest or profit from them.

[00:15:22] He keeps my laws and follows my decrees.

[00:15:25] He will not die for his father's sin.

[00:15:29] He will surely live.

[00:15:31] That's nice.

[00:15:32] I just, I got a wonder.

[00:15:33] You're changing your mind.

[00:15:33] I got to wonder when this changed though.

[00:15:35] Like when, when was this?

[00:15:36] Did you write that down?

[00:15:37] Can I, is that the new covenant?

[00:15:38] Right.

[00:15:39] Do we believe it this year but not next year?

[00:15:41] Like what, what is this?

[00:15:42] How long is this?

[00:15:42] Right.

[00:15:43] Yeah.

[00:15:43] Is this just for Ezekiel or does this go on in other books?

[00:15:47] Is this like one of those like tax, what do they call it tax?

[00:15:52] Holidays or whatever?

[00:15:53] Were they like, you know, give, forgive something for a while and then.

[00:15:56] The year of the Tiffany or whatever it's called.

[00:15:58] I don't know what that is.

[00:15:59] No, that's not the right word.

[00:16:00] Yeah, no.

[00:16:00] No, but it was like every seven years they did a thing and then.

[00:16:04] Oh no.

[00:16:04] I was talking about like in like actual now where they get like tax holidays

[00:16:07] where you don't have to pay taxes on back taxes and stuff.

[00:16:10] That's right.

[00:16:10] That's right.

[00:16:11] Okay.

[00:16:11] So like this is like one of those tax holidays where they're like,

[00:16:13] you don't have to pay the penalties for your father's sins.

[00:16:17] But maybe next decade, you know, maybe we might pick it up next decade again.

[00:16:20] We'll revisit this.

[00:16:21] Right.

[00:16:21] Yeah.

[00:16:21] It's still on the books.

[00:16:23] We didn't erase it.

[00:16:24] We just, we just erased it for this year.

[00:16:27] Right.

[00:16:27] Yeah.

[00:16:28] But his father will die for his own sin because he practiced extortion, robbed his brother and

[00:16:35] did what was wrong among his people.

[00:16:37] Yet you ask why does the son not share the guilt of his father?

[00:16:42] No, I don't ask that.

[00:16:43] I think finally you saw sense and decided to.

[00:16:47] Yeah, it makes great sense.

[00:16:49] If you had presented this from the beginning, nobody would ask you at all.

[00:16:52] Right.

[00:16:53] We thought those other rules were ridiculous and stupid.

[00:16:55] We thought that you were kind of dumb and doing it wrong.

[00:17:00] Yeah.

[00:17:01] Although I do recall that I did some kind of deep dive in that it was early on with

[00:17:08] these smaller tribes and cultures a way of making them more conscientious.

[00:17:16] It was like pulling them together and it helped them think about what they were

[00:17:21] doing before they did it knowing that the people around them would be impacted.

[00:17:26] Okay.

[00:17:27] So it was like a way of.

[00:17:30] Of collective punishment.

[00:17:32] Collective punishment but also collective thinking out before you do something.

[00:17:38] I got you.

[00:17:38] You know?

[00:17:39] Sure.

[00:17:39] So I mean there was a place for it but like now they're building cities.

[00:17:42] It's like no get that shit out of here.

[00:17:44] Right, right.

[00:17:44] There's too many people for that.

[00:17:45] Yeah.

[00:17:46] I'm not having it.

[00:17:47] I got it.

[00:17:48] Since the sun has done what is just and right and has been careful to keep all my decrees,

[00:17:52] he will surely live.

[00:17:53] Okay.

[00:17:54] The one who sins is the one who will die.

[00:17:56] Boom dead.

[00:17:58] Yeah.

[00:17:58] You fucked on the wrong day asshole.

[00:18:00] But I do think it's funny though that Ezekiel is just like rewriting the rules.

[00:18:04] Yeah.

[00:18:05] Like right here.

[00:18:06] Right here.

[00:18:07] You know.

[00:18:07] Is he seeing that God's telling him but I'm not sure about it.

[00:18:11] No.

[00:18:12] He's rewriting himself.

[00:18:12] What we are absolutely sure that God is not telling him.

[00:18:15] Yeah. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:18:16] Like God is not even in question here.

[00:18:18] Right.

[00:18:18] He's fucking rewriting the fucking rules because they want to because these make more sense.

[00:18:23] I do wonder though because isn't it that Jeremiah came after him and Jeremiah never mentioned.

[00:18:30] Only slightly.

[00:18:31] But Jeremiah never mentioned this rewriting of the rules.

[00:18:34] Right.

[00:18:35] So.

[00:18:35] Because they're not talking to the same God.

[00:18:38] Right.

[00:18:38] They're not talking to any God.

[00:18:40] Yes.

[00:18:41] They're talking to themselves and they're coming up with like they might have shared

[00:18:44] some ideas between each other.

[00:18:46] And then they went back to their respective cities and yeah.

[00:18:51] Probably Jeremiah was like dude what kind of shit are you on over there?

[00:18:54] You know the fucking wheels with the eyeballs and the what?

[00:18:57] Yeah.

[00:18:58] And you're going to lay on your side for a year and a half.

[00:19:00] What what are you doing over there?

[00:19:01] And you're rewriting the rules.

[00:19:03] I'm just trying to be a fucking double agent over here.

[00:19:05] Yeah.

[00:19:05] And you're being fucking weird man.

[00:19:08] You're being weird man.

[00:19:11] The child will not share the guilt of the parent

[00:19:14] nor will the parent share the guilt of the child.

[00:19:17] That was a long winded say of everybody's responsible for his own fucking actions.

[00:19:21] Right.

[00:19:22] The righteousness of the righteous will be credited to them

[00:19:26] and the wickedness of the wicked will be charged against them.

[00:19:30] Great.

[00:19:30] Great.

[00:19:31] Sounds sounds like a much better plan than they had originally when they were

[00:19:36] doing the long winded you know multi-generational punishments so.

[00:19:41] But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed

[00:19:45] and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right

[00:19:49] that person will surely live.

[00:19:52] They will not die.

[00:19:53] Okay.

[00:19:54] Okay so again long winded way of saying

[00:19:56] everybody's responsible for their own shit.

[00:19:58] Right.

[00:19:59] None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them.

[00:20:04] Okay.

[00:20:05] Because of the righteous things they have done they will live.

[00:20:09] Wait so they can do offenses but they're forgiven because they did more.

[00:20:13] Because they turned away from the sins and then they kept all the decrees.

[00:20:17] Maybe like the beginnings of like the forgiveness for sin and stuff like that.

[00:20:23] Interesting.

[00:20:23] Yeah we are literally seeing the but if you say sorry right quick before you die

[00:20:28] then you still get to go to heaven.

[00:20:30] It feels you know what the the Old Testament feels like a negotiation with the people that are

[00:20:35] following this God and they're like they're negotiating better ways to be right.

[00:20:41] Like they're like well we don't like that aspect so can we change that?

[00:20:44] Yeah.

[00:20:45] And like over time they slowly start changing some of this

[00:20:48] and it kind of that's how it morphs into what it ends up being right.

[00:20:52] Right.

[00:20:52] Right.

[00:20:53] It really feels like they are just changing things as they go along

[00:20:57] to make it fit better with what society at that given point wants.

[00:21:00] Right.

[00:21:01] This this is very interesting to me.

[00:21:04] I have not seen this before.

[00:21:06] Right.

[00:21:07] If you say sorry right quick before you die you still get to go to heaven and you're good.

[00:21:11] Yeah.

[00:21:11] Hey yeah.

[00:21:12] Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked?

[00:21:15] Declare is a sovereign Lord.

[00:21:17] Yes the answer is yes no matter what he says the answer is yes.

[00:21:20] The answer is always yes.

[00:21:20] Absolutely fucking yes.

[00:21:21] He loves killing people.

[00:21:23] Right.

[00:21:23] We have seen that so yeah I don't care what he says.

[00:21:26] Right I don't either.

[00:21:27] Here we go ready.

[00:21:28] Yeah.

[00:21:29] Rather am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

[00:21:34] I'm gonna say you're disappointed because one got away from you being allowed to smite him.

[00:21:39] I'm gonna say that you look for reasons to fucking kill people.

[00:21:42] Yeah I mean.

[00:21:43] When you're not ignoring them all together.

[00:21:45] Right he's shown joy in finding reasons and ways to kill people it seems like.

[00:21:50] I mean somebody peaked at you when they were trying to carry carry your fucking box

[00:21:55] that you sat in and you know the box fell and they tried to catch it for you

[00:22:00] and they touched it and weren't supposed to.

[00:22:01] Yeah.

[00:22:02] It was a.

[00:22:03] Yeah.

[00:22:03] Yeah.

[00:22:03] Justice for Uza.

[00:22:04] That's right justice for Uza.

[00:22:06] Then another couple people peaked inside and you got pissed and smote them all over the fucking place.

[00:22:12] What the hell?

[00:22:14] And you're telling me you don't enjoy killing people?

[00:22:16] Fuck off with that I don't believe you.

[00:22:18] Yeah.

[00:22:19] If you don't enjoy killing people don't fucking kill them.

[00:22:22] Right.

[00:22:22] Particularly for dumb reasons.

[00:22:25] Yeah I agree.

[00:22:26] But if a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin

[00:22:31] and does the same detestable things the wicked person does will they live?

[00:22:36] Okay hold on.

[00:22:38] So there's a good person.

[00:22:40] Yeah.

[00:22:40] But then they start doing bad shit.

[00:22:43] Okay.

[00:22:43] So will they live?

[00:22:44] I'm gonna guess no.

[00:22:47] None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered.

[00:22:50] Oh so it's a matter of the order you do them in.

[00:22:53] Yeah.

[00:22:54] So if you're if you're good and then bad you're fucked.

[00:22:57] Yeah.

[00:22:58] If you're bad and then good we're cool.

[00:23:01] So that's why you have to live your best life in your 20s and 30s.

[00:23:05] Right.

[00:23:06] And then knuckle down and get serious in your 40s.

[00:23:09] Sure sure and I suppose if God forgets to smote you a couple of times

[00:23:12] you could actually be bad and then good and then bad.

[00:23:16] Right.

[00:23:16] And then good and then bad and then good.

[00:23:18] But every time.

[00:23:18] And they're still okay.

[00:23:19] Every time once you get done being bad.

[00:23:22] Right.

[00:23:22] And then you'd be good.

[00:23:24] Every time that you'd be bad after that you're it's like a Russian roulette.

[00:23:29] Yeah.

[00:23:30] I mean you're getting older.

[00:23:30] You know.

[00:23:31] You could die any minute.

[00:23:33] Right.

[00:23:33] But technically you could die any minute even when you're younger.

[00:23:35] No I know.

[00:23:36] So.

[00:23:36] I'm just saying always be bad first.

[00:23:39] Right.

[00:23:39] Never not be bad before you're good.

[00:23:44] Because of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed

[00:23:49] they'll die.

[00:23:51] They will die.

[00:23:52] Okay.

[00:23:53] All right.

[00:23:54] So you say God.

[00:23:55] Yeah this time.

[00:23:56] This time.

[00:23:57] Yet you say the way of the Lord is not just.

[00:24:01] I mean sometimes I do say that yeah because I don't think it is some even in Ezekiel it's

[00:24:05] been not just.

[00:24:06] Yeah.

[00:24:07] So.

[00:24:07] Yeah.

[00:24:07] Yeah.

[00:24:08] Here you Israelites is my way unjust.

[00:24:12] Is it not your ways that are unjust?

[00:24:15] If a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin they will die

[00:24:19] for it because of the sin they have committed they will die.

[00:24:22] Okay okay hold on.

[00:24:23] This fucker is literally talking about them committing sin right which could be any number

[00:24:28] of things.

[00:24:28] It could be fucking your wife on her period.

[00:24:30] Sure.

[00:24:30] You're gonna die.

[00:24:31] Right that's one of the you're gonna die.

[00:24:33] Right but the punishment is him murdering you.

[00:24:36] Yes.

[00:24:36] God is going to murder you.

[00:24:38] I'm gonna kill you.

[00:24:39] For fucking your wife on her period.

[00:24:41] I'm gonna fuck you.

[00:24:42] I'm gonna fucking kill you if you are having sex with your wife on her period.

[00:24:47] And they have the fucking nerve to call this sin and morality and what?

[00:24:53] You're going to murder me for doing this thing.

[00:24:56] Not correct me, not teach me but murder me.

[00:25:01] But even if you taught me like hey I don't like it that you're fucking your wife on her period.

[00:25:08] Right.

[00:25:10] So I didn't ask you to watch.

[00:25:12] You're not involved.

[00:25:14] I wasn't talking to you about it except when you asked.

[00:25:17] Right yeah.

[00:25:17] And even then I was kind of like hesitant because it's like none of your goddamn business.

[00:25:23] You're the one worried about it.

[00:25:25] Me and my husband were fine.

[00:25:27] So why are you worried about why do you even need to worry about me on my period?

[00:25:31] That was one of your favorite sayings when we first got together is like why do other people

[00:25:35] need to know what's going on in other people's pants?

[00:25:38] Yes.

[00:25:38] Right like it doesn't that that has no bearing on anybody.

[00:25:41] What I do with my vagina what goes in and out of it.

[00:25:44] In a consensual relationship has no bearing on anybody else.

[00:25:48] Yes.

[00:25:49] I don't understand they are so concerned about people's vaginas and penises.

[00:25:54] Very much so.

[00:25:55] Like into a very gross fashion.

[00:25:58] It really is.

[00:26:00] If it's consensual don't fucking worry about it.

[00:26:03] Right.

[00:26:04] Yeah.

[00:26:05] I mean we can have a discussion maybe about the age of consent.

[00:26:09] I think that is a discussion.

[00:26:11] Yeah.

[00:26:12] You know right.

[00:26:13] I don't think that a 14 year old is old enough to consent.

[00:26:18] No I 100% agree.

[00:26:20] A 17 year old I don't understand how suddenly their next day's their birthday

[00:26:24] and they're magically old enough to consent but I also recognize that we have to pick a line and

[00:26:32] start somewhere.

[00:26:33] Yeah sure.

[00:26:33] So I don't know but that's a discussion right.

[00:26:37] We can have what is the age of consent.

[00:26:40] But even that's a discussion too.

[00:26:41] Like do we really have to pick an age?

[00:26:43] Could it be more about in a futuristic society where we determine things by

[00:26:48] some sort of a genetic marker that's in different people that mature at different times or

[00:26:56] a psychological marker that we have the ability to...

[00:27:00] We're having the discussion of age now in this period because 18 is the best

[00:27:05] overall consensus we can come to with regard to age of consent.

[00:27:09] Right.

[00:27:09] Yeah.

[00:27:09] And but that doesn't mean that that will always be the case because we might know more about

[00:27:14] psychology or we might know more about you know different things in the future.

[00:27:17] For that matter we know that dudes brains don't stop fucking growing until they're 25 so maybe a

[00:27:23] dude can't actually consent to certain things till he's 25.

[00:27:25] There you go.

[00:27:26] How the fuck do I know?

[00:27:27] Yeah.

[00:27:27] I knew you know that there are some 25 year olds I would not give my keys to because

[00:27:33] they shouldn't be driving a goddamn car.

[00:27:37] You know?

[00:27:37] Right.

[00:27:38] Whereas my kid has been responsible enough to be driving since they were 15.

[00:27:44] 16.

[00:27:44] 16.

[00:27:45] Well they had their permit they were learning and stuff.

[00:27:49] That's true.

[00:27:49] I'm just saying they took the rules and the learning very seriously and are still

[00:27:55] one of the few people that I don't mind being a passenger in the car.

[00:27:59] Right.

[00:28:00] You know?

[00:28:00] Right.

[00:28:01] Like they drive very safe and we know that they do it even when we're not in the

[00:28:05] car because we've got one of those devices that like monitors.

[00:28:09] Yeah.

[00:28:09] You're driving on the car and it comes back 100% every week.

[00:28:13] Literally.

[00:28:14] Literally.

[00:28:14] That's without us harping on it at all.

[00:28:16] Yeah.

[00:28:17] Mostly that thing is in the car because it calls 911 automatically if they get into an accident.

[00:28:21] And that's seriously our only major concern like we're not spying on the kid or anything.

[00:28:26] Right.

[00:28:26] I just we want them to be safe.

[00:28:28] Yeah.

[00:28:29] And they are.

[00:28:31] My point being my 19 year old is a lot more responsible and trustworthy and reliable

[00:28:37] than a lot of other people who are older or younger.

[00:28:41] Right.

[00:28:41] So I don't know what the age of consent for many things should or shouldn't be.

[00:28:49] I do know it's not the same across the board and I do know that in my goddamn 40s if I'm

[00:28:55] on my period and want to fuck my husband it's not a fucking sin and I should not be made to

[00:28:59] feel guilty for it nor should my husband.

[00:29:01] Right.

[00:29:01] Right.

[00:29:01] They should not be made to feel unclean and disgusting and horrible and gross.

[00:29:06] Like I would never have mentioned it had it not come up.

[00:29:10] Yeah.

[00:29:10] Honestly I'd rather not.

[00:29:12] Right we end up having to discuss some really weird shit because of the Bible.

[00:29:15] I hate the Bible.

[00:29:16] You know.

[00:29:16] I hate it.

[00:29:17] It's crazy.

[00:29:17] I never thought I would be on a goddamn podcast publicly speaking about sex on my period.

[00:29:24] Because of the Bible.

[00:29:25] Because of the fucking Bible.

[00:29:27] And they're telling me that this guy could be good all his life but then he fucks his wife

[00:29:32] while she's on her period and nope he's a sinner he's dead.

[00:29:35] Yeah.

[00:29:35] Yeah.

[00:29:36] That's bullshit.

[00:29:37] It is.

[00:29:38] But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed

[00:29:42] and does what is just and right they will save their life.

[00:29:45] Doesn't the fact that they have time to turn away from the wickedness

[00:29:49] kind of take away from the idea that he's going to kill people that do wicked things?

[00:29:53] Yeah.

[00:29:54] I mean you're obviously not going to take that action right away.

[00:29:57] Yeah.

[00:29:58] You're going to take it whenever you what feel like it.

[00:30:00] I mean what's.

[00:30:01] What do you mean by that?

[00:30:02] Can we get a time frame like what's the deal.

[00:30:04] What do you mean by that do you mean their soul is going to die because clearly

[00:30:07] their body doesn't.

[00:30:08] Right.

[00:30:08] Do you mean that like at some point when they die they don't go to like whatever your

[00:30:14] after party is.

[00:30:15] Right.

[00:30:15] Like what does that mean exactly.

[00:30:17] Yeah.

[00:30:18] Because that's a good point it's not like they die right away.

[00:30:20] Right.

[00:30:21] Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them that

[00:30:26] person will surely live.

[00:30:27] They will not die.

[00:30:29] And see this is a reason that I can't be a Christian because there are things that

[00:30:34] even if I started to believe in a God.

[00:30:37] Yeah.

[00:30:37] And in an afterlife somehow let's say that those things happen.

[00:30:40] Sure.

[00:30:41] There are things that people would want me to feel guilty for that I don't that.

[00:30:47] Right.

[00:30:47] Led to the person that I am.

[00:30:49] Right.

[00:30:50] I mean I think that understanding and accepting who you were is a large part of

[00:30:56] being a healthy human being.

[00:30:57] Right.

[00:30:58] And to despair to to shame yourself for the things in your past is not

[00:31:04] healthy.

[00:31:04] And I think that's a large part of why excuse me religion in general not just

[00:31:10] Christianity but religion in general is an unhealthy practice.

[00:31:14] Yes.

[00:31:15] Because it makes people feel shameful about things that they have done or

[00:31:20] did or are going to do even like that don't necessarily require that much shame.

[00:31:26] And maybe they did do bad things I don't know but is there a point at which like you

[00:31:31] grow from it?

[00:31:32] Right.

[00:31:33] Like none of the things that I did I think are things that are bad but the

[00:31:38] Bible might.

[00:31:39] Right.

[00:31:40] And I don't think that that's a fair discussion you know.

[00:31:44] It's not right as far as you and I are concerned it's not it isn't a

[00:31:48] discussion.

[00:31:49] Right.

[00:31:49] It is you know our choices as human beings and you know we have grown from who we

[00:31:57] were in the past and we don't and we are happy with who we are.

[00:32:01] Yeah.

[00:32:01] You know and that's including the bits about who we were.

[00:32:05] Right.

[00:32:05] So I'm fine with who I was you know.

[00:32:08] I've never had to ask you for forgiveness and nor have you had to

[00:32:12] ask me for forgiveness for things that we did or said or were or.

[00:32:18] I've always kind of been in the opinion that if you like especially even with a

[00:32:21] partner right.

[00:32:22] Mm-hmm.

[00:32:22] If you have to apologize constantly to that partner or person in your life for

[00:32:28] things that you did in your past that's not a good relationship.

[00:32:31] No that's not the person for you.

[00:32:33] Right.

[00:32:33] That's a that's an unhealthy relationship in my opinion.

[00:32:35] Right.

[00:32:36] Right.

[00:32:36] So yeah and it feels like this is kind of the same relationship people

[00:32:40] have with God.

[00:32:41] Yes.

[00:32:41] You're constantly apologizing for things in your past you know.

[00:32:44] And things in your future and things in your presently you're always

[00:32:48] never not be apologizing.

[00:32:49] Right.

[00:32:50] Always fear the Lord never not be apologizing.

[00:32:53] Yeah.

[00:32:54] Like gosh when do you find time to sleep and how are you not like always depressed

[00:33:00] in trying to kill yourself from the misery that this God puts on you.

[00:33:04] Right no it's it's it's not good.

[00:33:07] It's not healthy.

[00:33:08] Right.

[00:33:08] Yet the Israelites say the way of the Lord is not just are my ways unjust

[00:33:15] people of Israel.

[00:33:16] Is it not your ways that are unjust.

[00:33:19] You just said that they say it's unjust.

[00:33:22] This is the equivalent of I'm not ugly you are.

[00:33:25] Right.

[00:33:26] Right.

[00:33:26] Yeah.

[00:33:26] Like no uh like oh good argument God.

[00:33:30] Good one.

[00:33:32] Therefore you Israelites I will judge each of you according to your own ways.

[00:33:37] I feel like if you're God you wouldn't really actually have to argue with anybody.

[00:33:41] Right.

[00:33:41] You you literally could just make those judgments and then make them happen

[00:33:45] correct like the way you want them to be done.

[00:33:47] Right.

[00:33:48] Only that doesn't happen so we're having a hypothetical argument

[00:33:51] between Israelites and the prophet who is relaying the message of God.

[00:33:55] Mm-hmm.

[00:33:55] It's this it's dumb.

[00:33:57] He's like y'all need to behave because God's gonna get you.

[00:34:01] Right.

[00:34:01] They're like is he though and he's like no he really is and they're like I don't

[00:34:06] I don't know about all this because there's some really stupid rules and he's like

[00:34:09] okay which one show me.

[00:34:11] Mm-hmm.

[00:34:11] And then they're like well what about this one and then you know Ezekiel's like all right

[00:34:16] that's fair that's fair let me let me go think about it I got I mean talk to God I gotta go.

[00:34:21] Right.

[00:34:21] And then he comes back and he's like okay I thought about it I mean God talked to me

[00:34:24] and this is what I I mean he decided.

[00:34:27] Right yeah.

[00:34:28] Like get over yourself guy.

[00:34:30] Right.

[00:34:31] All right so uh judge I will judge each of you according to your own ways

[00:34:35] declares the sovereign Lord repent turn away from all your offenses

[00:34:40] then sin will not be your downfall if you just don't sin then you won't sin.

[00:34:46] Yeah I mean that makes total sense.

[00:34:46] If you just stop sinning then you're not being a sinner.

[00:34:50] It's true.

[00:34:51] My God it's that simple.

[00:34:52] That's true.

[00:34:52] It's true.

[00:34:54] Read yourselves of all the offenses you have committed and get a new heart and a new spirit

[00:34:59] just go get one they're always on sale at Walmart you can just pick up a new heart

[00:35:05] and a new spirit I don't recommend getting them at Dollar General because then you're getting

[00:35:09] a discount heart.

[00:35:11] Right.

[00:35:11] I also don't recommend.

[00:35:12] Yeah those are hard off.

[00:35:14] Hard off.

[00:35:16] I don't recommend ordering them from Amazon because you might get a used one that somebody

[00:35:23] you know sent back in a sealed box.

[00:35:25] At the very least UPS kicked it around some.

[00:35:27] Yeah yeah so you know just go to the store get one get a new heart and a new spirit.

[00:35:34] Yeah.

[00:35:34] Will why will you die people of Israel?

[00:35:37] Generally old age or tragedy.

[00:35:40] Yeah.

[00:35:40] Generally.

[00:35:41] Generally yeah.

[00:35:42] I'm just saying.

[00:35:43] For I take no pleasure in the death of everyone of anyone sorry for I take no pleasure in

[00:35:50] the death of anyone declares the sovereign Lord repent and live that's a Christian statement

[00:35:57] if I ever heard one right repent and live yeah oh they borrowed heavily from these prophets

[00:36:05] I tell you mean the New Testament did yeah.

[00:36:06] Yeah yeah it feels like it.

[00:36:08] It's gross.

[00:36:08] I mean I've never read the New Testament but like there it feels like you can hear the

[00:36:13] Christians walking around saying this shit.

[00:36:15] Yeah no it is definitely stuff that I am aware of that exists in Christianity.

[00:36:19] Yeah yeah repent and live.

[00:36:22] Yeah.

[00:36:23] All right that's the end.

[00:36:24] Oh that was the end.

[00:36:25] That's the end.

[00:36:26] Oh okay he does not like to kill people.

[00:36:29] Repent and live.

[00:36:30] Apparent I don't believe that but apparently yeah I had a thought as we were kind of

[00:36:33] wrapping this chapter up and it revolved around the idea of the prophets.

[00:36:40] And how you know there's all these false prophets out there right yes so this was just more of like

[00:36:44] a thought that this has nothing to do with exactly with the chapter that we just read

[00:36:48] but it's more to do with the fact that we've been reading prophets for three books now right

[00:36:52] and so it feels to me like prophets are essentially what a pastor or priest would

[00:36:58] be today right and it strikes me that them reciting what God told them is essentially the

[00:37:08] same thing as the pastor creating his sermon right.

[00:37:11] Just making shit up.

[00:37:13] Yeah but to lend it authority they say this is what God told me.

[00:37:18] Yes.

[00:37:19] Right.

[00:37:19] Yes.

[00:37:19] I feel like that's all this is right this is just essentially pastors or priests

[00:37:25] walking around getting their sermon together and saying this is what God told me but only

[00:37:30] saying that because it lends authority to what they're saying.

[00:37:33] Yes.

[00:37:33] And that's all this is.

[00:37:35] Yeah.

[00:37:35] It's just a fucking sermon.

[00:37:37] Yeah.

[00:37:39] Yeah so these are people they're fun regardless of what we're talking about it's people writing

[00:37:44] this shit and a lot of it is just terrible.

[00:37:47] This particularly was a bad chapter.

[00:37:49] I mean I feel like we say that all the time.

[00:37:52] I mean yeah.

[00:37:54] So I don't know that this one is was any worse.

[00:37:57] I mean there was the chapter 14 where I fucking went off because he was talking about

[00:38:01] mass murder multiple different ways to mass murder people.

[00:38:05] He was dreaming about like I could kill him this way I could kill him that way.

[00:38:09] Right.

[00:38:09] You don't know I could stuff marshmallows down their throats and let them choke on that.

[00:38:14] You don't know for fuck's sake.

[00:38:16] I mean it's just it's crazy.

[00:38:17] Yeah.

[00:38:18] All right well that was Ezekiel chapter 18.

[00:38:21] Sure as fuck was.

[00:38:22] And we will be back tomorrow with.

[00:38:25] Ezekiel chapter 19.

[00:38:27] All right we'll see you then.

[00:38:28] Bye.

[00:38:36] Hey wife I guess that's the end.
