Jeremiah Chapter 28: Atheist Bible Study

Jeremiah Chapter 28: Atheist Bible Study

Strap in, skeptics and scripture enthusiasts, for a wild ride through the divinely dubious world of ancient prophecies with your irreverent guides through the Book of Jeremiah. In this episode, titled "Jeremiah Chapter 28," we don't just read the good book; we flip it on its head, shake out the contradictions, and have a good laugh at the absurdities.

Join us as we unpack the perplexing prophecies of Jeremiah and put the so-called seer's credibility under our merciless microscope. Can we sort out the divine from the drama? Will we decipher the cryptic from the comical? There's only one way to find out, and it's not by praying for enlightenment. We're diving into Jeremiah 28 with the tenacity of a heretic at a holy water convention.

Prepare to be entertained as we witness Jeremiah's biblical smackdown with Hananiah, the ultimate showdown between the so-called true prophet and the accused false advertiser of the divine. It's like WWE, but with more smiting and less spandex. We're talking divine death threats, broken yokes (not the breakfast kind), and predictions with expiration dates shorter than a carton of milk.

Ever wonder what happens when ancient prophets disagree? Spoiler alert: It's not a peaceful debate club. It's a prophecy-off, and the loser doesn't just get embarrassed; he gets the heavenly boot. Did Jeremiah play a divine version of 'Simon Says' with deadly stakes, or was he the ancient equivalent of a Biblical Dexter, ensuring his predictions came true through some very mortal means?

From prophet power rankings to the ethical puzzles of storytelling that stretch from dusty scrolls to modern-day serial killers, we leave no stone unturned. And because we know you love a good teaser, we're setting the stage for an even juicier discussion in Jeremiah 29. Will it be more predictions, more drama, and more head-scratching narrative chaos? You bet your blasphemous boots it will be.

So tune in, turn up the volume, and let's blaspheme together as we dissect Jeremiah Chapter 28 in a way that would make your Sunday school teacher clutch their pearls. It's all here on your favorite podcast where we take the 'holy' out of holy scripture and replace it with a hefty dose of holy skepticism.

[00:01:16] Welcome to Sacrilegious Discourse. I'm husband. And I'm wife. Together we're reading the

[00:01:20] Bible for the very first time. We grew up without religion and wanted to know what all the fuss was

[00:01:25] about. Well, what do we learn so far? That God is a dick and apparently some people believe in

[00:01:31] talking donkeys. We're not trying to pass ourselves off as experts. Nope, we're just reading the

[00:01:35] Bible for the first time and giving our first take reaction. If you'd like to join us in this venture

[00:01:40] you might consider starting at episode one. Otherwise jump in wherever you like. All right let's go

[00:01:45] read the Bible. Yeah, let's get to it. Husband! Wife! Do you remember where the hell we are and how

[00:01:55] the hell we got here? Well, we just got done reading Jeremiah chapter 27. We did. And what I recall

[00:02:02] from that is that Jeremiah was standing out in front of the castle maybe and he was talking to the

[00:02:09] messengers of other kings and being like hey y'all might want to change your ways or God's gonna

[00:02:14] you know send getcha Babylon's gonna get ya. Ain't fuckers! Somebody's gonna get ya.

[00:02:20] Send this message back. Go go. Yeah. Still right and the chapters are out of order. They were so

[00:02:28] out of order. Yeah, like we we were I don't even know what the fuck's going on anymore because we were

[00:02:33] back before when they still had a chance to redeem themselves apparently. Yeah. And then we had already

[00:02:39] read up it where they're like nope it's done. Yeah, it's over 70 years that's all you're cooked. Yeah

[00:02:44] so I don't know what fuck's going on there's there is no rhyme or reason to what we're reading about

[00:02:48] right now. Nope. So that was Jeremiah chapter 27. Sure as fuck was. And today we're getting into

[00:02:55] Jeremiah chapter 28. All right let's do this. Oh, giddyfggy.

[00:02:59] All right here we are on our live discord that is sad that if you're listening to this in the

[00:03:15] recording, you probably missed our live discord on Tuesdays at 10 and you should be there because

[00:03:22] it's so much fun. And right now we are hopping into Jeremiah chapter 28. Yeah, you should totally

[00:03:28] join us. There'll be a link in the show notes for the discord channel. Yeah. And everybody

[00:03:32] teases me and calls me trashy and makes fun of me. Yeah, it's good time. It's good time. Yeah.

[00:03:38] Okay. And it happened in the same year, the same year. That very same year. Okay. At the beginning

[00:03:47] of the reign of Zedakaya King of Judah. Oh, back and forth. I'm back and forth. What year are we in now?

[00:03:53] I think we were talking about Zedakaya in the last one somehow. But I don't remember if it was the

[00:03:57] beginning or the middle. I don't know if you remember anyway whatever year that was at the beginning.

[00:04:04] Yeah. In the fourth year and in the fifth month that Hannah Naya or Hannah Montana. No, Hannah

[00:04:12] Naya. Yeah. The son of Azerr, the prophet. You know that guy? No, I don't. Who was from Ghibin?

[00:04:19] You know that place? I don't. He spoke to me in the house of the Lord. I guess me is Jeremiah.

[00:04:24] Right. So at least we know one guy. This is the Jeremiah book. So right. Okay. So this dude had

[00:04:30] what I call him headed diet. Hannah Naya. Hannah Naya spoke to me Jeremiah in the house of the

[00:04:37] Lord in the presence of the priest and of all the people. Okay. So we had some shit to say.

[00:04:41] Hannah Naya. I'm curious what they were talking about saying. Okay. Here we go. Yeah. This is what

[00:04:46] Hannah Naya said to me Jeremiah. Okay. The speaks the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel saying.

[00:04:54] Hannah Naya is telling Jeremiah what the Lord of hosts is saying? Yeah. Okay. All right. Yeah. Okay.

[00:04:59] He's saying that the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel talked to Hannah Hannah Naya. Yeah.

[00:05:06] And so Hannah Naya's like, guess what God told me? Oh. So this is like a little. I don't know if

[00:05:10] Hannah Naya is a good guy or a bad guy. Well, I'm not there yet. They're comparing God. God knows.

[00:05:16] Yeah. God knows. Yeah. Okay. So this is what Hannah Naya says that God said,

[00:05:19] I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon within. Did you really? Within two full years,

[00:05:26] I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the Lord's house that Nebuchadnezzar,

[00:05:31] king of Babylon, took away from this place and carried the Babylon. Oh, so this is one of the

[00:05:36] quote unquote false prophets. Yeah. It's got to be right? It's got to be because he's like,

[00:05:41] this isn't the way the prophet he's been going. So obviously, this is he's like, guess what God told me.

[00:05:46] Right. Yeah. Yeah. Now how I wonder how Jeremiah is going to respond? Me too. Okay. But Hannah

[00:05:51] Naya is still talking. Yeah. And I will bring back to this place. Jack and I are the son of Joachim,

[00:05:58] king of Judah with all the captives of Judah who went to Babylon says the Lord according to

[00:06:05] Hannah Naya. Got it. For I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. Then the prophet Jeremiah

[00:06:12] spoke to the prophet Hannah Naya in the presence of the priests and in the presence of all the people

[00:06:17] who stood in the house of the Lord. And I bet that they were watching with like that tennis ball

[00:06:22] eyes that go back and forth with their mouths of gate. Yeah. And the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen.

[00:06:29] The Lord do so. The Lord perform your words which you have prophesied to bring back the vessels

[00:06:35] of the Lord's house and all who were carried away captive from Babylon to this place.

[00:06:40] Nevertheless, here now this word that I speak in your hearing and in the hearing of all the people,

[00:06:47] the prophets who have been before me and before you of old prophesied against many countries

[00:06:54] and great kingdoms of war and disaster and pestilence and zebra cakes. What? Okay, random.

[00:07:03] Nothing. Yeah, definitely not there. I was just thinking of zebra cakes because the kid was asking

[00:07:08] for some and I forgot to get them the first time but then the second time that I wanted to

[00:07:12] the grocery store I got them that time. Great. Yeah. So war disaster pestilence and zebra cakes.

[00:07:18] Okay, yeah. As for the prophet who prophecies a piece when the word of the prophet comes to pass,

[00:07:25] the prophet will be known as one whom the Lord has truly sent. So he's setting himself up to be the

[00:07:31] correct one is he's like we'll just see how this pans out. That's what Jeremiah says. Yeah.

[00:07:37] He's like if you say so. Yeah. As my guess that's my summary. This was sounds like great.

[00:07:43] If you say so guy. Yeah. Then Hannah and I are the prophet took the yoke off the prophet Jeremiah's neck

[00:07:50] and broke it. Oh, so there was a Jeremiah this was like a stage show. I told you he was wearing

[00:07:58] that he it was very likely remember I read the notes that was very likely that he was just

[00:08:04] yesterday. Okay, I told you it was very likely that he was wearing it himself when he was speaking

[00:08:09] to these other people. Got it. The messengers as like a display as like a show. I don't recall

[00:08:16] that but I believe that you did say it. I did totally 100% say it. Got it. Okay. Okay. So he was

[00:08:23] definitely wearing it then not maybe wearing it right. And so this Hannah and I guy was like give me

[00:08:29] that and he took it off of them and broke it. And Hannah and I have spoken the presence of all the

[00:08:34] people saying thus says the Lord even so I will break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon

[00:08:41] from the neck of all nations within the space of two full years. We heard 70 but okay.

[00:08:48] Well, you're from Jeremiah right? This is the guy. Yeah. That's what I'm saying like wrong

[00:08:52] prophecy. Okay, guys, if you say so but I heard 70 from the other guy. Right. So we'll see.

[00:08:57] And the prophet Jeremiah went his way. Now the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah after Hannah and

[00:09:04] I have the prophet have broken the yoke from the neck of the prophet Jeremiah saying go and tell

[00:09:11] Hannah and I say the says the mother fucking Lord for thus says wait no, I lost my place. You have

[00:09:21] broken the yokes of wood but you have made in their place yokes of iron. So you are going from

[00:09:31] the frying pan into the fire got it. That's what God wants Jeremiah to tell Hannah and I that God said

[00:09:40] got it. Okay, are you following all this? Yeah, well, this is this is apparently even before

[00:09:46] like because he didn't Jeremiah literally wasn't arguing the prophecy apparently until he

[00:09:52] walked away and God told him the new prophecy. So like this is prior to I don't. Jeremiah actually

[00:09:57] having the prophecy that they're not being correct with these or something. I'm a little confused

[00:10:04] but okay, yeah, all right. Yeah, okay. So for thus says the Lord of hosts the God of Israel,

[00:10:10] I have put a yoke of iron on the neck of all these nations that they may serve never could

[00:10:14] Nazar king of Babylon and they shall serve him. And I have given him the beast of the field also. We

[00:10:21] okay, all right. Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hannah and I have the prophet yeah here now

[00:10:28] Hannah and I the Lord has not sent you but you make this people trust in the lie. Oh, he called

[00:10:34] them a liar straight to his face. Wow. That was kind of brave. I'm in so yeah, I mean it's

[00:10:40] actually happened. If you did that, that's kind of brave. Right. Like I have all bark and very little

[00:10:47] bite. I don't know that I can walk up to somebody and in front of a whole crowd be like

[00:10:52] that's cool but you're lying. You're a liar. I don't have a good sense as to what everyone's

[00:10:59] status is though. Like I don't really know how high up Hannah and I is. I don't know how

[00:11:04] high up honestly Jeremiah is other than he had influential parents at some level. Right.

[00:11:09] parents or whatever, but I don't really. But also he's descended from a family that housed the

[00:11:15] ark at one point. Right. Right. But I don't quite understand the entire hierarchy of how everything

[00:11:22] breaks down with regard to who's the most important and who's you know, that's something that's

[00:11:26] missing in my understanding of what we're reading right now with regard to these two people talking.

[00:11:31] Right. Okay. That's all I'm saying. So would it help you determine whether or not it was a brave

[00:11:39] act for him to call Hannah and I a liar straight to his face in front of everybody if you understood

[00:11:46] Hannah and I as role? Well yes because it would if I understood his role with regard to what Jeremiah's

[00:11:53] role is, it would help me understand how detrimental it could be or isn't to his livelihood.

[00:12:01] But if he did this, that's why. Okay. So it would be interesting to me if we have the ability to

[00:12:06] cover that in the Q and A that we might, if we can look into that, that would be something that

[00:12:10] would interest me at least. So I will see what I can find on Hannah and I. I'm not sure there's a lot

[00:12:15] of not necessarily Hannah and I out. The just the general hierarchy of how profits versus

[00:12:20] priests versus kings etc all kind of breaks down with regard to society at that time.

[00:12:26] Okay. Well, these are both quote-unquote profits so they would have been somewhat equal. But there

[00:12:32] might be the eyes of the people. There might be elders. There might be juniors. There might be you know,

[00:12:35] I don't, I don't, you know, I don't know. I don't, again, I don't know how it all breaks down.

[00:12:39] I would be curious to find out. Okay. Got it. I'll see what I can find for you. Yeah.

[00:12:44] I mean, it may not result in any information but I don't expect it'll be easy to find what you're

[00:12:50] looking for. Probably not because I do not have the droids you see. Yeah.

[00:12:55] Therefore that says the Lord, behold, I will cast you from the face of the earth. He's going to

[00:13:02] fling mother fuck around to space. Damn, this year you shall die. Boom, because you have taught rebellion

[00:13:09] against the Lord. Just let I tell you. Wow. Hey, but just a minute ago Jeremiah walked away

[00:13:14] agreeing with him. Well, he was like we'll see. Yeah, right. He wasn't agreeing with them.

[00:13:19] He was like yelling at him. If you say so, right. But then God was like go tell that mother

[00:13:24] fucker that he's a liar. And so Jeremiah was like, God says you're a liar. Yeah.

[00:13:30] And then Hannah and I is like, and then um, so God's like, oh, go tell that mother fucker.

[00:13:37] I'm not killing. I'm a guy who goes up tell somebody else they hate so and so is going to be

[00:13:41] waiting for you in the whatever after school. So he's going to wait for you on the playground.

[00:13:46] Yeah, yeah. That's exactly what it is. Right. Jeremiah's like Jesus Christ.

[00:13:53] Okay. So this year you shall die because you have taught rebellion against the Lord.

[00:13:58] Okay. So Jeremiah delivered that message to Hannah and I. Yeah.

[00:14:02] So Hannah and I of the prophet died the same year and the seventh month. The end.

[00:14:05] Well, that's just convenient. They got that prophecy correct.

[00:14:09] That they that God told Jeremiah to tell him this thing and then it happened.

[00:14:12] And then now we can just totally believe everything in the Bible because that was correct.

[00:14:17] According to the Bible written by Jeremiah thousands of years ago through multiple translations.

[00:14:22] Like basically Jeremiah's like sitting around with like his friends when he's old. He's like,

[00:14:28] so guess what? You remember that fuck face Hannah and I off way back when? Yeah.

[00:14:33] Yeah. No, he was only around for like a couple of years. Like yeah, you probably you young

[00:14:37] is wouldn't know him. And this was before your time. Right. Yeah. So anyway, hey, but you were there.

[00:14:42] Hey, so do you remember that time when he got up in my face and I was like, God says your liar?

[00:14:48] Well, nobody else knows this. But like I totally told him. God said you're going to die this year.

[00:14:54] And then he did what do you think of that? Right. And then all the oldsters are like,

[00:15:01] this could depend on the time frames of when this happened. This could explain why you remember when

[00:15:07] he lay it was, I think it was last chapter right where they was up. No, no, no, might have been two

[00:15:10] chapters ago where he was up in front of everybody and telling them, um, you know, doom and gloom.

[00:15:16] Everything's going to be bad. And then they took him captive, right? Yeah. And then they sat down

[00:15:22] talk, they talked about it. They had a little quorum and discussed things and they decided to let

[00:15:27] him go because he's pitching God's word or whatever. Right. Well, if he had done this prior and

[00:15:32] this guy died prior to that happening, somebody might have been like, Hey, you know, that one guy

[00:15:38] he died. That had a naya did die like the scene where we don't fuck with him too much because maybe

[00:15:46] yeah, I don't know. But like just to sit on the air of caution, I don't want to die. So like,

[00:15:50] maybe we just let him go. You said side on the air of caution. You pulled

[00:15:54] at me. It's air on the side of caution. Oh, you did a total way of flip words. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:16:02] You did that thing. You've never done that. Do you have the Alzheimer's now? Oh my God. You've

[00:16:08] never done that before. I'm freaked out right now. You guys I'm freaked out. Oh my God. Okay,

[00:16:14] sorry. Go on. I'm listening. I don't remember where I was going. No, but you're right because they

[00:16:19] they would have been like, okay, so we were totally mad at you Jeremiah, but then we just remembered

[00:16:25] that there is precedent for this with Micah. And then also remember a couple of years ago he

[00:16:29] totally was like, Hannah and I are you are gonna die, fucker? And then he did. Yeah, let's just let him go.

[00:16:35] Right, right. Yeah, that could make some sense. I mean, you know, in regard to an actual story

[00:16:40] that might make sense, I guess. Yeah. So whatever. Maybe he killed Hannah and I made the

[00:16:48] Prophecy come through. I wouldn't put that out of the Roman possibilities. Right? He's like,

[00:16:54] you gonna die. He seems very intent on being a prophet. And then in the back of his mind,

[00:16:59] he's like, I'm gonna make sure that this prophecy comes true. Yeah. Oh, I want to I want to read

[00:17:06] this book. Oh my gosh. There's so many things you could do with it. Just depending on how you

[00:17:10] create Jeremiah as that character that could be a nefarious character. Yeah. You know, I want

[00:17:15] I want to read the book where Jeremiah is this power hungry ladder climbing mother fucker. See,

[00:17:23] I was thinking more like a Dexter, but Bible is like a sociopathic biblical prophet. Yes.

[00:17:30] Yes. Like that, that sounds better to me. Yes. I think that would be the way to go with it.

[00:17:35] But without the incest and without like the whole, well, actually, it is Bible. So I take that back.

[00:17:42] There could be an incest. Yeah. There's really nothing you couldn't do with regard to the Bible.

[00:17:49] Yeah. I started to say, I don't know Dexter's too far, but no, you're right is Dexter further

[00:17:54] than the Bible? Absolutely not. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. I mean, that's a statement right there.

[00:18:00] The Bible is not worse than Dexter. No wait. The Bible is worse than Dexter. Yeah. Yeah.

[00:18:06] That's sad. Yeah. That ain't right. Okay. All right. Well, that was Jeremiah chapter 28.

[00:18:13] Sure. Fuck was. Which means that we'll be back tomorrow with Jeremiah chapter 29.

[00:18:18] All right. We'll see you then. Okie dokie.

[00:18:27] Hey wife, I guess that's the end. But husband, that's just sad.

[00:18:31] It doesn't have to be. We are on lots of social media platforms like Twitter. Our handle there

[00:18:35] is sacralitis underscore D for these nuts. Oh my god. Stop doing that. Anyway, we're also on Facebook,
