[00:00:00] Welcome to Sacrilegious Discourse. For this is what the Sovereign Lord says! Why do you need prophets to tell people who you are and what you want? If you can justify everything that the God of the Bible has done, then you can justify any of your behavior. A lot of this mentality is trickling into what is now mainstream right-wing Christianity. I am capable of empathy greater than this God of the Bible. This is a Bible that they tell kids.
[00:00:29] This is the good Lord. This is the good book. He is fantasizing about murder. Mass murder.

[00:00:48] And Wife!
[00:00:49] Do you know what we're doing today?
[00:00:53] Well, we're catching up. So we're doing our second episode today.
[00:00:57] Which is gonna... well, what we did earlier today...
[00:01:00] Four minutes ago we finished recording the memory.
[00:01:02] Yeah, yeah, it was Jonah chapter 3.
[00:01:04] And in that chapter, Jonah had just been spit up by the fish, right?
[00:01:08] And God was like, hey dude, go to Nineveh.
[00:01:11] He's like, aight.
[00:01:12] Yeah, and so he did. He went to Nineveh.
[00:01:14] And he's like proclaiming shit as he's going about a third of the way through the city.
[00:01:18] And then the whole city puts on fucking sackcloth.
[00:01:20] And the king's like, hey, I'm putting on sackcloth.
[00:01:23] And then we're not gonna eat or drink anything.
[00:01:25] And the animals aren't gonna eat or drink anything.
[00:01:27] And then God was like, cool man, you guys did good.
[00:01:29] Yeah.
[00:01:30] And that was basically it.
[00:01:32] Which is completely unrealistic based on everything I've read in the Bible thus far.
[00:01:36] Facts.
[00:01:37] So I don't know what's going on, but it's weird shit.
[00:01:40] And so this prophet apparently has some extra super convincing people powers.
[00:01:46] I mean...
[00:01:46] I'm not really sure what's happening.
[00:01:47] He lived in a whale.
[00:01:49] What would...
[00:01:50] It doesn't get better than that.
[00:01:52] Yeah, yeah, something like that.
[00:01:53] So that was Jonah chapter 3.
[00:01:55] Sure as fuck was.
[00:01:56] Which means that right now we're doing...
[00:01:58] Jonah chapter 4 and finishing the book.
[00:02:02] Did I steal your thunder?
[00:02:03] Well, I just was making sure we said it.
[00:02:05] That's all.
[00:02:05] So yeah, we're finishing Jonah.
[00:02:07] That's another book of the Bible.
[00:02:10] It's been fun.
[00:02:11] We are so close to finishing the Old Testament.
[00:02:14] Yeah.
[00:02:14] It's crazy.
[00:02:15] It really is.
[00:02:16] This has been a journey.
[00:02:17] Yeah.
[00:02:18] And we're getting there.
[00:02:19] Like, we can literally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
[00:02:22] Yeah.
[00:02:22] This is crazy.
[00:02:23] So you ready to do this?
[00:02:25] I sure as fuck am.
[00:02:26] Alright, let's do it.
[00:02:27] Okie dokie.
[00:02:34] Alright, we're about to get into this.
[00:02:36] Jonah chapter 4.
[00:02:37] Alright.
[00:02:38] We're gonna finish it.
[00:02:39] We are.
[00:02:40] We're gonna end it.
[00:02:41] Yep.
[00:02:41] It's gonna be done.
[00:02:42] Okay, ready?
[00:02:43] I'm ready.
[00:02:44] Okay.
[00:02:45] Aw, but to Jonah, this seemed very wrong and he became angry.
[00:02:49] Wait, what?
[00:02:50] What?
[00:02:52] Fuck!
[00:02:52] They listened to me!
[00:02:53] What's going on?
[00:02:54] And God forgave them those bitches!
[00:02:56] God damn it!
[00:02:57] This isn't right!
[00:02:58] All the other prophets have all kinds of problems with these fuckers.
[00:03:01] Yeah, so he went praying to the Lord.
[00:03:03] He was like, this is unbelievable!
[00:03:04] It's too fucking easy, man!
[00:03:05] What's going on?
[00:03:06] Nobody's gonna believe this shit!
[00:03:07] Right?
[00:03:08] Yeah.
[00:03:08] And you know what, Jonah?
[00:03:09] We don't.
[00:03:09] You're right!
[00:03:10] Yeah, we don't believe it.
[00:03:12] I'm sorry!
[00:03:15] He prayed to the Lord,
[00:03:16] Isn't this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home?
[00:03:20] This is what I tried to forstall by fleeing to Tarshish!
[00:03:23] I knew that you were a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love.
[00:03:28] Oh, is that what he is?
[00:03:28] A God who relents from sending calamity.
[00:03:30] Oh!
[00:03:31] Is that what he is?
[00:03:32] Is that what you know?
[00:03:33] Shit!
[00:03:34] That's why you ran from him, huh?
[00:03:35] I don't think you got the whole story, asshole.
[00:03:37] I don't think he's being completely honest if I'm, you know, I'm just saying.
[00:03:42] Like, I don't think that's true.
[00:03:43] I don't understand what he's...
[00:03:44] Why would you run from a compassionate God that doesn't make any sense?
[00:03:47] Yeah.
[00:03:48] Go do a thing for the good!
[00:03:50] No!
[00:03:51] Right, yeah.
[00:03:52] What?
[00:03:52] That doesn't make any fucking sense.
[00:03:54] Oh, he's still talking, okay?
[00:03:55] Okay, alright.
[00:03:55] Jonah's praying and he's like,
[00:03:57] Now, Lord, take away my life for it is better for me to die than to live?
[00:04:01] Wait, what?
[00:04:02] I don't understand.
[00:04:03] What is happening here?
[00:04:04] I have no...
[00:04:05] I don't understand.
[00:04:06] He was in a fish.
[00:04:07] He fucking lived.
[00:04:08] He went to Nineveh.
[00:04:09] He did what God said.
[00:04:10] They listened to him.
[00:04:11] They did what he said God said to do.
[00:04:14] And now he's gonna take his life because he...
[00:04:16] Why?
[00:04:17] What is happening here?
[00:04:18] I did not fully understand.
[00:04:18] We got Q's and I'm gonna get me some A's.
[00:04:21] Yeah, right.
[00:04:22] Like, everything up till now was not really a question.
[00:04:24] It was just like, whatever, that's stupid.
[00:04:26] Yeah, well, this is really stupid.
[00:04:28] This is a question though.
[00:04:29] Yeah.
[00:04:29] This is not just whatever.
[00:04:31] Right.
[00:04:31] This is...
[00:04:32] I feel like this guy just is depressed or something.
[00:04:34] Right?
[00:04:34] I don't know what's going on here.
[00:04:36] Dude, do you need Xanax or Jack Daniels?
[00:04:38] I don't know, but...
[00:04:40] Okay, but the Lord replied.
[00:04:42] He was like...
[00:04:43] Yeah.
[00:04:44] Okay, listen, listen.
[00:04:46] He goes, is it right for you to be angry?
[00:04:49] What?
[00:04:51] When was he angry?
[00:04:52] What is he angry about?
[00:04:53] That's what the Lord's saying.
[00:04:55] He's like, Jonah, the fuck?
[00:04:56] Is it right for you to...
[00:04:57] You're telling me you want to die and shit.
[00:04:59] But is he angry at the fact that these people listened or that they were shitty and they got forgiven?
[00:05:03] Or what's he angry about?
[00:05:04] I don't really know.
[00:05:05] Maybe the ride and the fish wasn't as pleasant as he says.
[00:05:08] You know?
[00:05:08] I don't know.
[00:05:08] Or maybe it was more pleasant.
[00:05:11] All right, listen.
[00:05:12] Jonah had gone out and sat down at a place east of the city, you know, where the sun rises.
[00:05:18] Okay.
[00:05:19] Yeah.
[00:05:19] So, he's praying to Ra.
[00:05:23] Just kidding.
[00:05:24] Just kidding.
[00:05:25] There, he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade, and waited to see what would happen to the city.
[00:05:32] Okay.
[00:05:33] It's like he's mad that God forgave them.
[00:05:36] I guess.
[00:05:37] He's like, but they were bad.
[00:05:39] I'm not understanding what's happening here.
[00:05:41] I don't understand either.
[00:05:42] Yeah.
[00:05:42] Then, the Lord God provided a leafy plant.
[00:05:45] I wonder if it was the same kind of plant that Gilgamesh...
[00:05:50] In our special, we talked about how that inputinpupu, the guy that lived forever.
[00:05:55] Yeah.
[00:05:56] The immortal guy.
[00:05:57] Right.
[00:05:57] And he's like, hey Gilgamesh, there's a plant down there that'll help you be young.
[00:06:03] Go get it.
[00:06:03] Remember?
[00:06:04] I wonder if it's that one.
[00:06:06] Or maybe it's just weed or something.
[00:06:07] Or algae.
[00:06:08] Yeah.
[00:06:08] Yeah.
[00:06:09] Then, the Lord God provided a leafy plant and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort.
[00:06:19] But he already built a shelter.
[00:06:20] Right?
[00:06:20] And he sat in it shade.
[00:06:22] He's like, here's some more shade on top of your shade.
[00:06:24] Yeah, that's okay.
[00:06:26] Fine.
[00:06:26] This is a weird story, right?
[00:06:28] This is a weird story.
[00:06:29] This is a weird story.
[00:06:38] Right?
[00:06:39] We gotta make something difficult here.
[00:06:40] Jonah, you're the problem.
[00:06:43] And Jonah was very happy about the plant.
[00:06:45] Well, I'm glad he's happy about it.
[00:06:46] That's good.
[00:06:47] You know what?
[00:06:47] Maybe it was weed.
[00:06:48] I think you're right.
[00:06:49] Right, yeah.
[00:06:49] But it dawned the next day, God provided a worm which chewed the plant so that it withered.
[00:06:56] What?
[00:06:57] This is so random.
[00:06:58] What is going on here?
[00:06:59] I wonder if a wild alligator will come eat the worm.
[00:07:02] Is this supposed to be like a metaphor for what's happening to Nineveh right now?
[00:07:06] Like, they agreed to capitulate to God and then as he went out to his shelter, they're
[00:07:11] like, you know what?
[00:07:11] No, we're gonna go back to our old ways as soon as he left town.
[00:07:13] I don't know.
[00:07:14] Okay.
[00:07:15] When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind and the sun blazed on Jonah's head
[00:07:21] so that he grew faint.
[00:07:22] He wanted to die and said, it would be better for me to die than to live.
[00:07:30] Ooh.
[00:07:31] He is depressed.
[00:07:32] Again, this is, yeah.
[00:07:33] But God said to Jonah, is it right for you to be angry about the plant?
[00:07:37] Yeah, because you did it!
[00:07:40] I think the point is, I think the point God's trying to make is, you didn't have the plant
[00:07:45] in the first place and I gave it to you.
[00:07:47] I can give and take away.
[00:07:48] Oh, I see.
[00:07:50] I give you a thing and I-
[00:07:51] I feel like there's some backstory here we're not getting about Jonah, right?
[00:07:54] Yeah.
[00:07:55] Like maybe something bad happened to him that he blamed God for.
[00:07:59] Yeah.
[00:07:59] And that's why he ran away.
[00:08:01] I feel like there's something missing pre-chapter one, but I also feel like there's something
[00:08:05] missing between three and four.
[00:08:08] Yeah.
[00:08:09] Because it's like what?
[00:08:09] I'm very confused as to what's happening here.
[00:08:11] Yeah, same, same.
[00:08:12] But I think that this is supposed to be an analogy for I can give something, but if I
[00:08:18] take it away, you don't get to be mad about it because it was never years in the-
[00:08:21] Right.
[00:08:21] You know what this reminds me of?
[00:08:23] Okay.
[00:08:23] Okay.
[00:08:23] This is a good analogy.
[00:08:26] Okay.
[00:08:26] Better than his stupid analogy.
[00:08:28] Okay.
[00:08:28] So there was this company, right?
[00:08:30] And the owner or president or whatever the fuck, he, every morning brought everybody
[00:08:36] coffee, right?
[00:08:38] Yeah.
[00:08:38] And he was very generous and he was like, everybody should have coffee.
[00:08:43] Well, some of the workers, like most people were like, yeah, that's cool.
[00:08:47] And some were like, I don't like coffee, but that's cool too.
[00:08:50] You know, whatever.
[00:08:51] Sure.
[00:08:51] I can bring my own water or pop from home.
[00:08:53] That's fine.
[00:08:53] Right.
[00:08:54] But there was like two or three people that were like, fuck you.
[00:08:57] If you're going to give coffee to them, you should give me something too.
[00:09:00] I'm owed.
[00:09:01] Right.
[00:09:02] If they can't have something that I can't have, that's not them.
[00:09:05] Right.
[00:09:05] Right.
[00:09:05] And so, um, the owner president guy.
[00:09:09] Yeah.
[00:09:10] He stopped bringing coffee cause he's like, well, I just won't.
[00:09:13] Yeah.
[00:09:13] Yeah.
[00:09:14] I won't bring it.
[00:09:14] You just killed it for everybody then.
[00:09:16] Right.
[00:09:16] And I think it was required to, I think he was told he had to.
[00:09:20] And I'm just like, okay, this is off topic.
[00:09:23] But I think that like, if that was me, I would be like, oh, then I will meet everybody
[00:09:29] outside and give you your coffee there off the fucking clock because I can give things
[00:09:33] to people if I want to.
[00:09:34] And I'm going to give this to you.
[00:09:36] If you don't want this gift, you can dump it on the ground.
[00:09:40] But my gift to you is not pop.
[00:09:43] Right.
[00:09:43] My gift to you.
[00:09:44] You don't get to pick your, this is not secret Santa.
[00:09:48] You know, you don't get to choose what I am freely giving to you out of my own pocket
[00:09:53] and then be mad that you don't like the, you know what you can do.
[00:09:56] You can fuck right off.
[00:09:58] Now it does matter kind of whether there was a business funds being used and or personal
[00:10:03] funds being used.
[00:10:04] Right.
[00:10:04] Somewhat.
[00:10:05] Okay.
[00:10:05] I'm just saying, but it's my understanding that it was out of his own pocket.
[00:10:09] And he just was like, sure.
[00:10:10] What?
[00:10:11] I just give coffee to everybody.
[00:10:12] Right.
[00:10:13] Right.
[00:10:13] What you do when you're rich and not an asshole.
[00:10:15] Sure.
[00:10:16] Or want to appear not to be an asshole anyway.
[00:10:17] Right.
[00:10:18] So I think that analogy though, of the, I didn't have to give you anything.
[00:10:23] You don't want it.
[00:10:24] I'll take it away.
[00:10:25] Right.
[00:10:25] I think that is the analogy that God is trying to make.
[00:10:29] Okay.
[00:10:29] Right.
[00:10:30] Well, I mean, based on what we've read of the Bible, I feel like God is like, I gave
[00:10:35] everything that the entire planet is mine to give or take away.
[00:10:40] Right.
[00:10:41] And you know, if I choose to take something away, it's not, it's not about you.
[00:10:44] Don't worry about it.
[00:10:45] I gave it to you in the first place.
[00:10:46] So it doesn't really, you're backing up what I said.
[00:10:48] Yeah.
[00:10:49] Yeah.
[00:10:49] Okay.
[00:10:51] So I thought that was really astute of me, by the way.
[00:10:53] Yeah.
[00:10:53] You should have said, that's an actual great analogy.
[00:10:56] Why?
[00:10:57] Great analogy wife.
[00:10:58] Okay.
[00:10:58] Cool.
[00:10:59] Thanks.
[00:10:59] Okay.
[00:11:00] Anyway, he goes, I'm so angry.
[00:11:02] I wish I were dead.
[00:11:02] But the Lord said, Oh wait, but God said to Jonah, is it right for you to be angry about
[00:11:07] the plant?
[00:11:09] It is.
[00:11:10] He said, and I'm so angry.
[00:11:11] I wish I were dead.
[00:11:12] What the fuck?
[00:11:13] But the Lord said, you have been concerned about this plant though.
[00:11:17] You did not tend it or make it grow.
[00:11:20] It's spring up overnight and died overnight.
[00:11:23] And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh in which there are more than
[00:11:27] 120,000 people who cannot tell their right hand from their left and also many animals.
[00:11:33] The end.
[00:11:34] This is it.
[00:11:36] That's it for Jonah.
[00:11:37] That's it for Jonah.
[00:11:37] Jonah.
[00:11:38] What a confusing fucking, like what is the point of this story?
[00:11:44] Um, but God, understand the Lord God is very forgiving and, but he doesn't have to be.
[00:11:51] And he's very, um, wonderful, but he doesn't have to be.
[00:11:56] And he's very generous, but he doesn't have to be.
[00:11:59] Well, I, the fact that Jonah went out of town to sit and see what happened in Nineveh.
[00:12:05] Right.
[00:12:05] It's like he was hoping.
[00:12:06] It's like he didn't trust what God was going to do.
[00:12:08] Well, he was, he was hoping that God would go ahead and bomb them anyway.
[00:12:11] I don't know what he was hoping for.
[00:12:13] But he's like, I'm just watching to see.
[00:12:15] He definitely had a suspicion is that, that what was said was going to happen wasn't what
[00:12:19] was going to happen.
[00:12:20] Right.
[00:12:20] Right.
[00:12:21] But he was, he also said that he was mad.
[00:12:25] So he was mad that God was sparing them or mad, maybe, or mad that the people repented
[00:12:30] so quickly.
[00:12:31] But that's what I'm not understanding.
[00:12:32] Yeah.
[00:12:32] What is he fucking mad about?
[00:12:34] What is he upset about?
[00:12:35] I don't get it to the point that he's going to take his own life.
[00:12:37] Apparently.
[00:12:37] Yeah, I don't, I don't get it.
[00:12:39] I don't either.
[00:12:40] I just did.
[00:12:41] I feel like, and maybe like, okay, there's a lot of dark things that happen in this, this
[00:12:45] book, right?
[00:12:46] Like he gets swallowed by a fish.
[00:12:47] He's running away from something.
[00:12:49] Yeah.
[00:12:50] He's, you know, like there's a lot of things that kind of portray him specifically not
[00:12:55] being in a great mental state.
[00:12:57] Yeah.
[00:12:57] Right.
[00:12:58] Like he's at a dark place.
[00:12:59] Yeah.
[00:12:59] But what the, what God is doing is all good things.
[00:13:02] Apparently.
[00:13:02] Right.
[00:13:03] He's saving him from the fish.
[00:13:04] He's, um, you know, chase, he's chasing after him.
[00:13:07] Right.
[00:13:07] Bring him back.
[00:13:08] And to personally explain to him, like, no, the rest of us get a personal explanation,
[00:13:12] but Jonah, the bad boy did.
[00:13:14] Yeah.
[00:13:14] Honestly, this just feels like a mental health, um, about Jonah's mental health.
[00:13:21] Yeah.
[00:13:21] More than anything else.
[00:13:23] Yeah.
[00:13:23] In my opinion.
[00:13:24] And here's another thing that I find very, um, uncomfortable is that I see what God's
[00:13:30] saying.
[00:13:30] I disagree with him, but I see what he's saying.
[00:13:33] Sure.
[00:13:33] Cause he's like, I didn't have to give you that.
[00:13:35] Just like the CEO.
[00:13:36] I didn't have to give you coffee.
[00:13:37] Right.
[00:13:38] If we're speaking from the point of God is real, right?
[00:13:40] Oh yeah.
[00:13:41] Obviously.
[00:13:41] God is real and God did give everything.
[00:13:43] Obviously.
[00:13:44] Then sure.
[00:13:44] I guess that conversation could make some sense.
[00:13:46] Right.
[00:13:46] In a way.
[00:13:47] Again, I disagree with him because we'll, but you're God.
[00:13:50] And more to the point, if he was real, I still think he's a dick.
[00:13:53] Well, yeah, so definitely.
[00:13:54] That's there's that.
[00:13:55] Yeah.
[00:13:56] For sure.
[00:13:58] But this was definitely going to need a Q and a slash wrap up.
[00:14:03] I have to tell you when I read that last sentence, I forgot it, that it was the last
[00:14:06] chapter.
[00:14:07] Yeah.
[00:14:07] When I was like, and cannot tell the right hand from their left and also many animals
[00:14:11] the end.
[00:14:12] And like, I was like, haha, I can't wait to see what happens.
[00:14:15] Nothing.
[00:14:15] Nothing fucking happens.
[00:14:16] And then he's like, that's it for Judah.
[00:14:18] And I was like, fuck me.
[00:14:19] It is.
[00:14:21] Like I forgot for a minute because it's just so like middle of the sentence basically.
[00:14:25] Right.
[00:14:26] But I mean, as far as I know about Nineveh, they seem to, I mean, they're like, oh shit.
[00:14:30] Right.
[00:14:31] We're going to.
[00:14:32] So good for them.
[00:14:32] They seem to know their left hand from the right hand.
[00:14:34] Yeah.
[00:14:34] Like, I guess, you know what?
[00:14:36] We're going to change our ways.
[00:14:37] And they did.
[00:14:37] Right.
[00:14:38] According to the Bible.
[00:14:39] Yeah.
[00:14:41] So I, this is what I'm not understanding.
[00:14:43] I'm like, what is, what is this chapter even?
[00:14:45] Oh, I have another comment to me.
[00:14:46] Okay.
[00:14:47] I did not know that people not knowing the right hand from their left.
[00:14:50] I didn't know that that phrase came from the Bible, much less Jonah.
[00:14:53] You know, I didn't either actually.
[00:14:55] Right.
[00:14:55] Yeah.
[00:14:56] Like that's kind of like, oh, okay.
[00:14:58] Yeah.
[00:14:59] All right.
[00:15:00] Well, that's, that's it for Jonah.
[00:15:03] That's Jonah.
[00:15:04] I mean, I told you I had more information, but I didn't realize that it was going to be
[00:15:09] like this.
[00:15:09] Right.
[00:15:10] I didn't either.
[00:15:12] Yeah.
[00:15:12] So anyway, I think we're going to endeavor to wrap up the rest of the Bible over the
[00:15:18] next, over the weekend.
[00:15:20] The Bible.
[00:15:20] Not the Bible.
[00:15:21] I'm sorry.
[00:15:21] The rest of Jonah, the rest of Jonah and the special episodes.
[00:15:24] Yeah.
[00:15:24] We're going to get right through it over the weekend.
[00:15:26] We've got two more episodes, I think, because we're going to do our wrap up Q and A as one.
[00:15:29] As one.
[00:15:30] And then we'll have our contradictions and pop quiz.
[00:15:33] Yes.
[00:15:33] You're always wrong.
[00:15:35] Right, right, right.
[00:15:36] And then I'll get the weekly replay out.
[00:15:38] And then we'll be back on Monday starting again with.
[00:15:42] Micah.
[00:15:43] Micah.
[00:15:43] Micah.
[00:15:44] Okay.
[00:15:44] If I'm not mistaken, there's only one chapter.
[00:15:48] Seriously.
[00:15:48] Yeah.
[00:15:49] Wow.
[00:15:49] These are really short.
[00:15:51] They're minor.
[00:15:51] Really short books.
[00:15:52] Oh, no, there's two.
[00:15:53] There's two.
[00:15:54] Hold on.
[00:15:54] I think there's four.
[00:15:56] We're counting them down here.
[00:15:57] We're going to go through them all.
[00:15:59] Oh, there's five.
[00:16:00] Shit.
[00:16:00] There's a lot.
[00:16:02] No, there's more than one.
[00:16:03] Yeah.
[00:16:04] There's definitely more than one of the other.
[00:16:05] I messed up.
[00:16:05] To continue to go.
[00:16:06] Okay, we're going to stop counting now.
[00:16:08] I'm going to stop counting.
[00:16:08] There's a few chapters.
[00:16:09] There's a few chapters.
[00:16:11] Of Micah.
[00:16:11] But there's less than 20.
[00:16:12] There's fewer than 20.
[00:16:13] Okay, sounds good.
[00:16:15] All right.
[00:16:15] Anyway, that's it for Jonah guys.
[00:16:17] That's it for Jonah.
[00:16:18] See ya.
[00:16:19] Oh, wait.
[00:16:20] There was six chapters.
[00:16:22] That's seven.
[00:16:23] That's seven.
[00:16:23] Oh, seven.
[00:16:24] Sorry.
[00:16:24] I'm on.
[00:16:25] I was looking at the back and forth button.
[00:16:27] No, there's seven chapters.
[00:16:28] Sorry.
[00:16:29] You're right.
[00:16:29] On Micah.
[00:16:30] Yeah.
[00:16:31] That was it for Jonah.
