[00:01:16] Welcome to Sacrilegious Discourse. I'm husband and I'm wife. Together we're reading the

[00:01:20] Bible for the very first time. We grew up without religion and wanted to know what all the fuss was

[00:01:25] about. Well, what have we learned so far? That God is a dick and apparently some people believe in

[00:01:31] talking donkeys. We're not trying to pass ourselves off as experts. Nope, we're just reading the

[00:01:35] Bible for the first time and giving our first take reaction. If you'd like to join us in

[00:01:39] this venture, you might consider starting that episode one. Otherwise jump in wherever you like.

[00:01:44] All right, let's go read the Bible. Yeah, let's get to it.

[00:01:50] Husband. Wife. Do you remember what happened on Friday? Well, we got done with Jeremiah chapter

[00:01:58] 45 which was the chapter right after the narrative that was being told and it was like the last

[00:02:05] time that Jeremiah was going to be doing his, you know, addressing the nations and all that

[00:02:10] kind of stuff. So it was, we were hearing from Baruch and Baruch was like, we were like back like

[00:02:17] 20 years and Baruch was recalling, I don't really know honestly. Like I do remember that

[00:02:27] he was feeling sorry for himself because he didn't get to be a prophet because his reputation

[00:02:32] was dashed. Yeah. And then he included this in the narrative for some reason that

[00:02:39] Jeremiah told him that God had a special message for him that was basically like just be glad you

[00:02:44] live. I feel like he was trying to make himself a prophet. Yeah. And also then like he was apparently

[00:02:49] too important to be in the city when God destroyed it according to legend. Yeah, so then he walked

[00:02:55] outside of the city, took some acid and watched some angels destroy it. That's what I said.

[00:03:00] Anyway, yeah, I don't really know. Considered a prophet by some and he's also considered

[00:03:06] a saint by some and he may have got translated up to Paradise in a fucking coach. Yeah.

[00:03:15] Yeah, so I don't know what's up with Baruch, but Baruch's got some shit going on. And anyway,

[00:03:19] that was that was Jeremiah chapter 45. And I'm kind of actually curious what's going to happen

[00:03:25] today, which would be Jeremiah chapter 46. All right, let's do this. Okey-dokey.

[00:05:27] I got a couple things to say. Okay. First of all, apologies to those who are keeping track

[00:05:33] with their bingo boards. I did not drop any f bombs and the opening. Oh man. And that's rare.

[00:05:39] So yeah, no wild car for you or whatever. If you have no idea what I'm talking about

[00:05:45] is because you're not in our discord on which you should be. So yeah, I mean,

[00:05:51] you should go over there and hop over on our discord, which there's a link in the show notes

[00:05:55] right now because today if you're listening on the day it's Monday, which means that our live

[00:06:00] will be tomorrow. So yep at 10 Eastern. Yeah. And we have so much fun. Right. And you can

[00:06:07] play bingo and it there's all kinds of ways to track my fuck ups and errors and

[00:06:14] cats and stuff like that. Right. Okay, so that's that. The other thing is I have some notes about

[00:06:21] this chapter that actually are kind of important that I read before we jump into it. Okay. Okay. So

[00:06:28] first of all, this chapter is part of a series. What we're entering another series,

[00:06:33] but this is not a narrative. This is oracles against foreign nations. And it consists

[00:06:40] of chapters 46 to 51. Open. What? Open. Open. Yeah, oracles against foreign nations. Oh,

[00:06:49] I'm like, what the fuck are you talking about? Yes, that would be correct. That is an acronym.

[00:06:53] Got it. That is how that works. Now, in the Septuagint these chapters, oh, it's chapters

[00:06:59] 46 to 51. And in the Septuagint, these chapters come in the middle of what we call

[00:07:07] Jeremiah chapter 25, but which is chapter 32 in the Septuagint. Okay. My mouth wanted to say

[00:07:16] superintendent. Got it. That is not correct. That is not correct. So the fact that these oracles are

[00:07:23] kind of together. Yeah. Suggests that they circulated for a time as an independent unit.

[00:07:30] So they were like their own separate thing that different people put in different places,

[00:07:35] depending on who was translating and why. Got it. Okay. Yeah. And this series,

[00:07:40] the basically the rest of this book is these chapters. They bring together a number of the

[00:07:47] messages that the prophet announced to foreign nations over the course of time during the many

[00:07:54] years of his ministry. Okay. That's not confusing at all. Right. So we're going to be bouncing

[00:08:00] even more wildly around than talking about more different time frames. And it gets worse.

[00:08:05] It gets worse. Ready? Great. Furthermore, the order in which the messages have been arranged

[00:08:12] does not follow the order of the events that they announced. Oh, awesome. So they're not

[00:08:17] chronological. Yeah. They're yeah. Great. The arrangement is more according to the geographic

[00:08:22] location of the target countries. So each chapter is basically going to be Jeremiah

[00:08:28] yelling at a different nation. Okay. And the arrangement, like I said, is geographic.

[00:08:35] And it starts with Egypt in the south and then it moves north and east towards Mesopotamia

[00:08:43] and hits a bunch of locations all in between. I kind of dislike strongly whoever put together

[00:08:50] the book of Jeremiah. I do too. I am not. I'm not a fan of that person. Yeah. Chronological

[00:08:56] is always best, bitches. Yeah. I mean, there's some thoughts that it was Baruch, but I don't

[00:09:01] believe that either because there's a chance that he might have died with Jeremiah. So I mean,

[00:09:06] whatever. There's been plenty of chances to fix it since his time at the very least.

[00:09:11] So I think that's going to be like my life goal is like restapling. Like I'm just going

[00:09:17] to get a Bible and I'm going to tear all the pages out and I'm going to restate that.

[00:09:20] This is how I should actually go. Yeah. Yeah. Like this is chronological.

[00:09:25] Right. Yeah. And I will be the decider of what goes and what stays. We'll have our own.

[00:09:31] If I got some apocrypha, a pygrapha, whatever, the non-canon Bible. We'll have our council

[00:09:37] of sacrilege. Yes. Yes. Yeah. I'll include all that stuff. So the climax of this series deals

[00:09:45] with the nation that dominated the affairs of most countries in the region, which was...

[00:09:50] Babylon. Yep. You got it. Right. Okay. So now we're going to jump in. Okay.

[00:09:56] So, but we're starting with Egypt. Egypt. Got it. The word of the Lord which came to Jeremiah the

[00:10:02] prophet against the nations and that is basically an intro for this entire section, not just this

[00:10:09] chapter. I bet these messages sound very similar. They probably do. For each of the

[00:10:13] fucking nations. They probably do. I'm just a guess. I'm just going to say that up front,

[00:10:17] but based on what I've heard so far in Jeremiah, that's probably how this is going to go.

[00:10:20] I'm going to guess that you're right. But it will be fun listening to him talk shit against

[00:10:26] different geographies. Sure. Yeah. Okay. Like, okay, dude, whatever. Okay. Concerning the army of

[00:10:35] Pharaoh Niko, king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Karshamesh and which

[00:10:43] Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Joachim, the son of Josiah, king of

[00:10:50] Judah. Okay. Okay. Now this is a quote. This is Jeremiah delivering a prophecy. Egypt, you are

[00:10:59] going to be so fucked. Yeah. And so he is like, this is what he sees. Okay. Okay. Order the

[00:11:05] buckler and shield and draw near to the battle. Harness the horses and mount up you horsemen.

[00:11:10] Stand forth with your helmets. Polish the spears. Put on the armor. Why have I seen them dismayed and

[00:11:16] turned back? Their mighty ones are beaten down. They have speedily fled. Look at them Egyptians run,

[00:11:23] huh? Yeah. And did not look back for fear was all around, says the Lord, you know, to me. Okay. Yeah.

[00:11:29] Sure. Do not let the swift flee away nor the mighty man escape. They will stumble and fall

[00:11:37] toward the north by the river Euphrates. Who is this coming up like a flood? Whose waters move

[00:11:44] like the rivers? Egypt rises up like a flood and its waters move like the rivers. And he says,

[00:11:50] I will go up and cover the earth. I will destroy the city and its inhabitants. Come up, both

[00:11:57] horses and rage, O chariots, and let the mighty men come forth. The Ethiopians and the

[00:12:03] Libyans who handle the shield and the Lydians who handle and bend the bow. The Libyans and the Lydians,

[00:12:13] they're mercenaries that were, oh, and the Ethiopians, they were all mercenaries that

[00:12:18] Egypt. Yeah. So this is all directed at Egypt and their slaves and their warriors and their

[00:12:24] mercenaries like the whole army of mixed mash. Got it. Okay. Yeah. For this is the day of

[00:12:30] the Lord, God of hosts, a day of vengeance that he may avenge himself on his adversaries.

[00:12:36] The sword shall deliver it shall be satiated and made drunk with their blood for the Lord,

[00:12:43] God of hosts has a sacrifice in the North country by the river Euphrates. Go up to Gilead and take

[00:12:51] balm, O virgin, the daughter of Egypt. In vain you will use many medicines. You shall not be

[00:12:59] cured. Okay, let me jump into some notes before we get too much further. Yeah, I'm a little

[00:13:04] assuming he's going to kill Egypt or like that stuff. Jeremiah is hypothetically like in canon.

[00:13:12] Yeah. Okay, Jeremiah is being told by God this is what's going to happen. So he's giving this

[00:13:18] prophecy. God is showing me this moment in time when oh, shit, look at all those Egyptians and

[00:13:26] all their guys. Oh, they are running in fear. Oh my God. Oh, this movie is great. Oh, look at them.

[00:13:33] Yeah. Okay, so that's what's happening. Still sounding like a Babylonian agent though.

[00:13:37] Just saying. Yeah, okay. Also, why would God care about the Babylonians and the Egyptians?

[00:13:42] He wouldn't because he doesn't even hardly care about his own people. He wouldn't. Okay.

[00:13:47] All right. So it was on his way to Karshamesh. I'm giving you notes now. Sure. It was on his

[00:13:53] way to Karshamesh located in modern Turkey near the Syrian border. Okay. That Pharaoh Niko had slain

[00:14:01] King Josiah of Judah back in 609 BCE when Josiah tried to turn him back. Okay. So that's what this

[00:14:10] is supposed to have taken place before then. Okay. Sure. Pharaoh kept his army in Karshamesh

[00:14:15] for four years dominating the area and waiting for the inevitable confrontation with rising Babylon.

[00:14:23] When it came, the Egyptians were rooted in 605 BCE. The army of Nebuchadnezzar.

[00:14:29] Oh, is it not rooted? No, it's routed. Is it routed? Yeah. Okay. They were routed, not rooted.

[00:14:35] My bad. Another one of those words I never hear out loud.

[00:14:39] Okay. I really thought it was rooted. No, it's routed. Okay. They were routed.

[00:14:44] They were stopped at any rate. In 605 BCE, the army of Nebuchadnezzar defeated the troops of Pharaoh

[00:14:54] Niko at Karshamesh on the northern Euphrates and pursued the troop to the border of Egypt.

[00:15:01] The Babylonian armies chased the fleeing Egyptians, south, Egyptians, south, and came to Jerusalem.

[00:15:08] Okay. So moving on when it says the association of the balm, when he says the balm of Egypt or

[00:15:17] whatever, the balm of Gilead, the association of balm with Gilead is likely an illusion to the

[00:15:24] fact that caravans from the east bearing supplies of balm often pass through Gilead. Okay. So

[00:15:32] they were like, sell your medicines elsewhere because they ain't going to work here.

[00:15:36] Got it. They all going to die and nothing can help you. Got it. Got it. Okay. So the defeat of Egypt

[00:15:41] at Karshamesh was famous because it marked the beginning of Babylon as a true superpower in the

[00:15:47] region and the decline of Egypt. So that was the moment. Okay. Okay. The specific moment that

[00:15:54] like the tides of wind completely changed. But just to put it back out there for the record,

[00:15:59] God said that Babylon was going to destroy Gilead, all the Israelites in Egypt and by

[00:16:09] destroying Egypt. And he never made it past the front door. So I'm just saying. Yeah. No,

[00:16:15] totally agree. I don't, these prophecies, these quote unquote prophecies, they're only as right as

[00:16:22] they are convenient. Right? Yes. You know, like we can, we can point out in these books where

[00:16:28] prophecies are not correct. But people are going to be like, well, but it was correct here.

[00:16:33] Like, yeah, that's in your book. And yes, okay. In history that happened, but we don't even know

[00:16:37] when that was fucking written. Yeah. Sorry. I just, I'm so annoyed with quote unquote

[00:16:42] prophecies. Oh yeah. Totally. So I agree. So, okay. So he's saying, in vain you will use

[00:16:48] many medicines, but you shall not be cured. Okay. The nations have heard of your shame

[00:16:55] and your cry has filled the land for the mighty man has stumbled against the mighty. They both

[00:17:02] have fallen together. Okay. Yeah. Those two giants over there. That's what happens in war. You fight

[00:17:07] each other and people fall and die and those two giants over there duped it out and sometimes

[00:17:12] one giant one and sometimes the other giant one. Right. And that sucked for all the little

[00:17:15] people getting strong underneath. Still does to this day, right? To this day. To this day.

[00:17:22] The word that the Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would

[00:17:27] come and strike the land of Egypt. Okay. So now we're like for the first part was about

[00:17:36] it was a prophecy about the defeat at Karsamesh. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Right. So now we're reading

[00:17:42] a second prophecy, which is the invasion of Egypt. Okay. So this is closer to like

[00:17:48] after the Babylonian exile is already underway and stuff. Right? I'm assuming I would think so.

[00:17:55] I mean, sure. Okay. Sounds right. Yeah. You should never ask me about time periods and years

[00:18:01] because I'm wrong. So I'm I've stopped. Yeah. I decided I'm no longer going to say

[00:18:07] yes. That is absolutely correct. Got it. Got it. Okay. Okay. Your cry is filled the land,

[00:18:12] the mighty man. Yeah. All you giants stumbling. You both fallen together. The word that the

[00:18:16] Lord spoke to Jeremiah the prophet how Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon would come and strike the

[00:18:23] land of Egypt. Okay. Yeah. Declare in Egypt. This is God talking to Jeremiah who is speaking.

[00:18:31] Yeah. Declare in Egypt and proclaim in Migdal, proclaim in Naph and in Tappanese. Say stand fast

[00:18:40] and prepare yourselves for the sword devours all around you. Why are your valiant men swept away?

[00:18:47] They did not stand because the Lord drove them away. He made many fall. Yes, one fell upon another

[00:18:55] and they said arise. Let us go back to our own people and to the land of our nativity

[00:19:00] from the oppressing sword. They cried their Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise he has passed by the

[00:19:07] appointed time. So I have some notes. Okay. Other than Jeremiah really doesn't like Egypt and the

[00:19:13] Pharaohs. Right. Okay. Right. Yeah. You know, because he's a double agent for Babylon. Yeah.

[00:19:18] Yeah. Right. No, I mean like it just keeps reinforcing. He's all like fucking Egypt. Right.

[00:19:23] Yeah. So they called Pharaoh a noise and what that actually was referring to was a braggart,

[00:19:32] a bombast, a loudmouth, a person who's all talk, someone who's full of lip service,

[00:19:38] that kind of thing. Okay. A blow hard. Yeah. Okay. So another thing is Egypt proudly thought

[00:19:45] of her. Oh wait, no, I'm not there yet. Never mind. So I'll get there in a second. Okay.

[00:19:50] So okay, they're like, he's just a noise that king of Egypt guy. Right. Right. As I live says the

[00:19:58] king whose name is the Lord of hosts surely as Tabor is among the mountains and is Carmel by the sea.

[00:20:06] So he shall come. Yeah, he will. Oh, you daughter dwelling in Egypt. He's talking to the Israelites

[00:20:12] there. Yeah. Prepare yourself to go into captivity for nof shall be waste and desolate

[00:20:18] without inhabitant. So he's these are cities he's naming off. Gotcha. That he's like, y'all gonna

[00:20:24] get it this city, this city, this city. Here we come into Egypt. I mean, I mean, I mean here Babylon

[00:20:30] comes not me. I'm just Jeremiah. Right. I was talking about them, not us. It's just that

[00:20:37] like the the the rhetoric towards Babylon who is conquering, you know, Israel, yeah,

[00:20:44] is very friendly coming from this book. That's the part that just it just always strikes me like

[00:20:49] they're like his tool, his weapon, his, you know, like servant. Yeah. I'm like,

[00:20:54] this guy, they really Jeremiah really loves this guy. Yeah. Yeah. Thinks well of them or at the

[00:21:00] very least he really hates Egypt. Or he's like Trump is with Putin and Babylon had something on

[00:21:08] him. Right. Yeah, there's that possibility. And so he's like, I totally love them. I mean,

[00:21:15] Babylon, you know, isn't it good to be friends with your enemies? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Egypt is a very

[00:21:21] pretty heifer, but destruction comes. It comes from the north. Also her mercenaries are in her

[00:21:29] midst like fat bulls for they also are turned back. They have fled away together. Okay,

[00:21:35] let's talk about that for a minute. Okay, okay. So Egypt proudly thought of herself as strong, great,

[00:21:41] and beautiful. And God said that they were strong and pretty like a young cow, a heifer. But really,

[00:21:47] they were just ripe for sacrifice like a cow is. Oh, so they're like, I'm great. And he's like,

[00:21:53] yeah, you are a great steak. Right. Yeah. So there's that. Okay. Okay. Yeah. They have

[00:22:02] fled away together. They did not stand for the day of their calamity had come upon them,

[00:22:07] the time of their punishment. Her noise shall go like a serpent for they shall march with an army

[00:22:15] and come against her with axes, like those who chop wood. Okay, I got to say something else now.

[00:22:22] Okay. The reference to Egypt, the way it is in other translations like here, ours says she

[00:22:32] her noise shall go like a serpent. Yeah. But in other translations, it says gliding away like a snake.

[00:22:39] Okay. And that either way, well, I think gliding away like a snake is worse and would have had more

[00:22:45] weight. Okay. It's a sarcastic comment on the humbling of thought, which was one of Egypt's

[00:22:54] most revered national deities. Okay. And one which was prominent in the royal insignia.

[00:23:00] And just to put that into frame of reference, the Egyptian god Thoth was equivalent to the Greek

[00:23:06] Hermes or the Roman Mercury. Got it. So this was a low blow directed at one of their gods,

[00:23:12] essentially. Yes. Like, there go your snake. There go your snake god. Yeah. Yeah. Like if you

[00:23:19] recall seeing that Egyptian god guy with like the head of the eagle or something like that,

[00:23:28] you know what I'm talking about? I am sure if I saw it, I would recognize it. Okay. Well,

[00:23:31] he's got a stick that's got the kadushia snakes wrapped around it. Okay. So that's

[00:23:37] who Thoth is. Got it. Or Thoth, whatever. I don't know how to pronounce things. Right. Sorry.

[00:23:43] I'm not a scholar or an academic. Okay. So yeah, they turn back, float away together. Oh,

[00:23:50] shall go like a serpent for they shall march with an army. Yeah, here come their axes,

[00:23:54] chop wood. Yeah. Right. Here we are. They shall cut down her forest, says the Lord,

[00:23:59] though it cannot be searched because they are innumerable and more numerous than grasshoppers.

[00:24:05] Oh, wow. Damn. The daughter of Egypt shall be ashamed. She shall be delivered into the hand

[00:24:12] of the people of the North. That's Babylon they talk about. Right. Yeah. The Lord of hosts,

[00:24:17] the God of Israel says, behold, I will bring punishment on Ammon of Noah and Pharaoh and Egypt

[00:24:25] with their gods and their kings, Pharaoh and those who trust in him. And I will deliver them into

[00:24:31] the hand of those who seek their lives into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon,

[00:24:38] and the hand of his servants afterward. It's funny though, I have to stop you here for

[00:24:43] just a second because the Pharaoh that they invaded ended up running away and using Babylon

[00:24:50] to come back and fight them. And they got stopped by the new Pharaoh who was actually not bad and

[00:24:57] reigned for like 50 years. Not bad insofar as military prowess and stuff. It just depends

[00:25:02] on which century you're talking about. Right, but I'm assuming based on what I'm hearing that

[00:25:07] is probably the as Babylon was taking over Jerusalem and all this other stuff. They're like, whoa,

[00:25:14] Babylon's kicking ass. That'll surely never change forever. Right. Babylon will always win.

[00:25:19] And it's like, my understanding based on the history thing that we brought up in the,

[00:25:22] I figured what chapter it was, we talked about it, but that there was like an ongoing war for

[00:25:26] like five or six, maybe even seven years or something like that where Nebuchadnezzar was

[00:25:31] trying to invade Egypt, but never actually succeeded. Yeah, exactly. So, so I don't know.

[00:25:39] It's funny to me that this stuff is in the Bible as though it was a prophecy that came true.

[00:25:47] Instead of as like, that didn't actually really happen that way. Right. Maybe some of it kind

[00:25:52] of happened, but they promised complete 100% and right. That's not how that went.

[00:25:59] Yeah. I mean, I'm sure some border towns got taken over or you know, we're in them,

[00:26:04] questionable as far as who's right. Yeah, right. Yeah, exactly. But Egypt did not get run over by

[00:26:10] Babylon. No, not completely anyway. Never. Afterward it shall be inhabited as in the days of old,

[00:26:17] says the Lord. Yeah, that didn't happen. Right. But do not fear. Oh my, oh my servant Jacob

[00:26:23] and do not be dismayed. Oh Israel, here he comes saying, you know, but I still love you.

[00:26:27] Here's the redeeming thing I'm going to say. Yeah, I'm going to stab you 100 times and,

[00:26:33] but then I'm going to give you a bandaid. Right. And say I love you. Yeah.

[00:26:39] For behold, I will save you from afar and your offspring from the land of their captivity.

[00:26:45] Jacob shall return, have rest and be at ease. No one shall make him afraid. Okay.

[00:26:52] Do not fear. Oh, Jacob, my servant says the Lord, for I am with you, for I will make a complete

[00:26:59] end of all the nations to which I have driven you, but I will not make a complete end of you,

[00:27:05] except for sometimes, but no, I won't, but I will, but I won't. Yeah. I'm going to kill all of you,

[00:27:10] except some of you, but all of you. Let's do that. I'm checking, checking the map here. Yep.

[00:27:15] Yep. Egypt's still there. Right? Yeah. I'm just saying. Actually, yeah, they're still there and

[00:27:20] they have some important shit to say. Right. Yeah. I don't think there was ever a complete end to Egypt.

[00:27:26] Yeah. I will rightly correct you says God, for I will not leave you wholly unpunished.

[00:27:34] Okay. The end. Okay. Yeah. You like whatever dude. No, it's just, I,

[00:27:40] I, look, I feel like Jeremiah is not a reliable source or, or, or narrator here. Yeah.

[00:27:48] Because like dude say less. Yeah. And so I'm kind of over Jeremiah. Yeah. And I'm over the,

[00:27:56] the false information that's being portrayed here in the Bible because yeah, like it's

[00:28:01] literally telling us things as a prophecy that didn't at least fully happen. Right. Right.

[00:28:09] Like, this is, you remember back when we were, when they were taking over Israel, right? And they

[00:28:15] were, they were, they killed all the Canaanites and all the Amonites and they, all of them were gone.

[00:28:19] Yeah. 100%. Right. And then they just kept popping up like here, there and everywhere.

[00:28:23] Yeah. And then like, well, we didn't meet everybody. You know, come on, come on. Come

[00:28:29] on. Nobody could kill everything. And it's like, no, but you're God and you said you did

[00:28:34] and you're not very trustworthy. If you say you did and then later you're like, but I didn't.

[00:28:40] But it's just these themes where he says these, these finalities. Right. Where things are gonna

[00:28:46] definitely happen this way and things are gonna, you know, these people are all going to be gone

[00:28:50] or whatever. Right. And they just don't happen. But then an apologist would say you're taking

[00:28:56] the wrong message and you're, you're being too hyperbolic and not understanding blah,

[00:29:02] blah, blah. And I'm like, oh, so then I'm not supposed to trust the Bible and say that it's 100%

[00:29:09] true. And they're like, no, no, no, no, no, no, it is though. And then you're like, but it's not.

[00:29:13] And they're like, well, that's that part. And then you're like, which other parts? And they're

[00:29:16] like only the ones I say. If people actually study this, they're on the apologist are on

[00:29:20] really shaky ground. Right. I mean, there's a lot of stuff actually wrong in the Bible.

[00:29:25] Yeah. And, and yes, you can twist words to make it sound like it's correct or

[00:29:29] this is correct or that's correct. If you put things in the context that you want them in,

[00:29:34] but if you're to read it and just examine it as it is, you're going to find a lot of fallacy.

[00:29:40] And the problem is that the only proof that these people have of God is this fucking book.

[00:29:46] Right. And that's the problem right there. This does not, you can't use a 2000 year old

[00:29:52] book where people wrote about what they believe in God as the proof for God.

[00:29:56] Right. That doesn't work. Yeah. No, I totally agree. And that's, that's the, I mean, that's

[00:30:02] the problem I have with it right now. Like we're using this to influence politics and,

[00:30:08] and law and, and social mores. And like there's just like so much that this,

[00:30:15] this information is relevant to because of what we now and currently are using this for.

[00:30:23] Yeah. So really bad. Yeah. Right. I'm just going off a little bit, but it's fine. It's fair.

[00:30:29] All right. Do you got anything else for us? That was pretty much it. All right. Well, that was

[00:30:34] Jeremiah chapter 46. Sure as fuck was, which means that we'll be back tomorrow with Jeremiah

[00:30:40] chapter 47 in our live discord. Is it? Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes, it is. Yes. No,

[00:30:51] it's not. No, it's not. No, it's not. No, it's not. No, because tomorrow is Monday and we record

[00:30:59] Tuesday's episode tomorrow. Yeah. And I always do this. Damn it. Yeah. It's the recording

[00:31:05] then night before. It didn't feel right when you said it. It didn't feel right when you said it,

[00:31:07] but like I was like, no, every once in a great while wife's right. So I'll just go right

[00:31:13] until I think this through. I'm never right. I'm 100% wrong. Yeah. I should just assume

[00:31:17] that right off the bat. You always should assume that. Yeah. Yeah. You've been married

[00:31:20] to me long enough. Right. Yeah. Yeah. And we've been doing this podcast long enough that I should

[00:31:24] know better. But just everybody out there always assume wife is wrong. All right. So

[00:31:31] we'll be back with which one then still Jeremiah chapter 47. All right, but no discord. No,

[00:31:37] not tomorrow anyway. No. All right. But do join us on Tuesdays at 10. At 10. Yeah. All right.

[00:31:42] We'll see you guys then. Bye.

[00:31:49] Husband. Wife. Do you remember what happened yesterday and where the fuck we are today?

[00:31:54] Well, yesterday we read chapter 46 of Jeremiah. Sure. And in that chapter,

[00:32:01] Jeremiah or God or somebody, I mean it sounds less like

[00:32:07] Jeremiah now because it's almost like Baruch's telling us. I don't know, it's just a weird

[00:32:13] way they're mentioning it. But basically God was saying Egypt's going to get fucked. Yeah.

[00:32:20] But the thing is as much as he said that, it never actually fully happened in our research

[00:32:26] that we kind of did. Right. And so God was wrong. Kind of, yeah. I mean, yeah. You know.

[00:32:33] Egypt is still here today. Egypt did get attacked and yes, Egypt did lose some battles,

[00:32:39] but Egypt was never fully invaded and taken over. Right. And so God was wrong. Egypt is still Egypt.

[00:32:45] In fact, in fact, the Israelites flourished in Egypt after they were supposed to have been

[00:32:52] destroyed. Exactly. So I think something went haywire there with the whole God idea.

[00:32:58] I think that Babylon was looking so hot at the moment that they were like, this is our it girl.

[00:33:06] You know what I'm saying? They were like, oh, damn. We can totally make this prophecy work.

[00:33:11] See. Yeah. It's obvious. They're going to win. They're totally going to win. It's so obvious

[00:33:15] what's going to happen here. And I mean by all rights, it could very well have happened that

[00:33:20] way. Babylon was huge for a minute. Right. Right. But they didn't stay. They didn't.

[00:33:24] Yeah. It didn't work out. I mean, we don't talk about a current day Babylon, but we sure as

[00:33:29] fuck talk about a modern day Egypt. Yeah. Yeah. We sure do. We sure do. So anyway,

[00:33:35] there wasn't really much to say about that. Just basically God was like,

[00:33:39] Egypt is going to get screwed over. Yep. That's pretty much all there was. Yep. So that was

[00:33:42] Jeremiah chapter 46. Yes. Which means that today we're getting into Jeremiah chapter 47.

[00:33:49] All right, let's do this. Okey-dokey.

[00:34:01] All right. We are hopping into Jeremiah chapter 47. Okay. And just a quick note before I get

[00:34:09] into the chapter itself, let us not forget that this is part of a series of oracles against

[00:34:15] foreign nations. Right. And this will cover chapters 46 through 51,

[00:34:23] which is the rest of the book of Jeremiah. Oh, it is? So 51 is the last chapter?

[00:34:27] I believe so, yeah. See, they're 51 or 52, but I'm pretty sure it's 51. Okay. All right. So

[00:34:32] the rest of these, every chapter is going to be a different nation that God is like,

[00:34:35] and I'm going to get you and you and you. Okay. And moreover, these are not in

[00:34:42] chronological order. Right. These are in geographic order, like starting from like nearest to,

[00:34:49] you know, moving up the map. I mean, there was like no point throughout Jeremiah that we were in

[00:34:55] chronological order to begin with. So we might as well just stick with that theme. Right, exactly.

[00:35:00] Yeah. So just want to put that out there before we start. And today we're getting into

[00:35:07] the Philistines. Okay, yeah. So here we go. The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the

[00:35:14] prophet against the Philistines. Before we even discussed the Philistines at all throughout the

[00:35:20] Bible, like Jeremiah yet? I'm holding up a finger that says one moment. Okay, okay, okay. Okay.

[00:35:26] Yeah. Before Pharaoh attacked Gaza. What? Okay, what? Yeah. Wait, wait, what the

[00:35:34] is happening? Let me read this word, this sentence again. Okay, yeah. The word of the

[00:35:38] Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.

[00:35:45] So we have not discussed this. Let me go to my notes. Okay. And let us read about the very

[00:35:51] first verse of this chapter because what the ever loving fuck. Right. Right. Yeah. Okay. So

[00:35:57] there is no actual historical evidence. So I'm not saying it didn't happen, but we don't have

[00:36:04] evidence of any Egyptian king smiting Gaza. Okay. Okay. So don't know what the fuck they're talking

[00:36:11] about. I think they would call it attacking that smiting smiting is more of a God thing. Right.

[00:36:14] Right. Exactly. They're just saying it was no doubt hit by some of them, like, obviously, because

[00:36:23] I mean, there was all kinds of shit going on back like this was a

[00:36:25] like the Israelites were right in the middle of all kinds of shit happening. Right. And

[00:36:30] Gaza was getting hit every which way to sure it was right there in my understanding is what

[00:36:35] we've read so far is it feels like, you know, the Israelites are almost kind of friendly with

[00:36:40] Egypt. So they're frenemies. They're right. Yeah. But so this is kind of confusing to me.

[00:36:45] Right. In this in this time and place. Sure. You know, sure. So again, this may have

[00:36:51] happened at some point, but it was like small beans never recorded. And when or by whom does not appear

[00:36:58] in any written history. Interesting. So we're like, okay, I believe you. Sure. If this occurred,

[00:37:06] if this attack occurred, it would likely have been when Nico was marching to Huron in 609 BCE.

[00:37:15] Okay. Sure. Because Nico's campaign at that point had a twofold purpose. It was one,

[00:37:21] to prop up a tottering Assyria against a powerful Babylon, thus maintaining the balance of power,

[00:37:29] which okay, that tracks and two, to extend his own empire in a time of international chaos when

[00:37:35] everything was adrift, like we just said, everybody was fighting over the middle ground,

[00:37:40] essentially. And Israel happened to be in that middle ground. Yes. And so Gaza might have got

[00:37:47] struck by Egypt at some point, who fucking knows? Right. But to say it got struck also might be a

[00:37:53] little bit of a misnomer because it felt like they were reaching out to Egypt for help.

[00:37:58] Yes. Against the Babylonians. So I don't know. I mean, it feels like the the struck

[00:38:06] bit might be a little bit strongly worded. Yes, totally agree with you. So there's that.

[00:38:12] Yeah. Verse one, what the fuck are you talking about? And we have no historical context to

[00:38:16] relate this to. So like, we can't speak any more about that other than it says it in the Bible.

[00:38:21] Yeah. Okay. All right. So I'm like, yeah, I'm sure that lots of little cities

[00:38:29] got marched over. Sure. You know, whatever. And whoever was running that little city in that

[00:38:35] minute may have been much like Jeremiah on the side of Babylon, fearing that Babylon was the

[00:38:43] larger power. And so then maybe Egypt in marching through at one point was like, oh, you like them?

[00:38:51] Okay, we'll fuck you for a minute. Well, my understanding. So Gaza, as it sits now is

[00:38:56] essentially the part of Israel that is like bordered up against Egypt. So this is this

[00:39:02] would be like if they took it over, if they struck them, this would be basically them taking over an

[00:39:07] area that would buffer. Like they can set up the fences before, you know, the main force.

[00:39:13] Right. Strategic so that the Babylonians hit this wall of their troops before it hits their actual

[00:39:17] country. Exactly. So I could see that being the case. Using that as a military fortification.

[00:39:24] Right. And less as a, you know, we struck this city today. Right. Yeah. Especially if

[00:39:30] they were frenemies, like it's they're going to be like, okay, you guys can obviously beat us. So I

[00:39:35] guess yeah, just come on in. Like you guys are guard people that were used to ruin us. Sure. Right.

[00:39:43] Yeah. Whatever. Okay, so carrying on. Yeah, sorry. Sorry. Chapter. Okay, now we have reached verse

[00:39:48] two. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Thus says the Lord behold waters rise out of the north and shall be an

[00:39:57] overflowing flood. And of course we know that that's Babylon. Well, yeah. Anything,

[00:40:03] anytime they ever refer to the north is Babylon. And when they say it's an overflowing flood,

[00:40:07] it's always like their troops are coming in large numbers. Okay. Yeah. And they shall overflow the

[00:40:14] land and all that is in it, the city and those who dwell within, then the men shall cry and

[00:40:22] all the inhabitants of the land shall wail. So even though we're talking about Egypt here,

[00:40:29] we're still talking about Babylon to conquering them. Well, we're supposed to be talking about

[00:40:36] the Philistines. Which isn't is the Philistines? Is that the Egyptians or what are the Philistines

[00:40:41] exactly? I don't even really. Yeah, it's all very confusing and I have some notes about

[00:40:47] that as well that I will get to in just a minute. Let me finish this verse here. Okay.

[00:40:52] Then the men shall cry and all the inhabitants of the land shall wail at the noise of the stamping

[00:40:58] hooves of his strong horses at the rushing of his chariots at the rumbling of his wheels.

[00:41:05] The fathers will not even look back for their children lacking courage. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. I was

[00:41:13] like damn because of the day that comes to plunder all the Philistines to cut off from

[00:41:20] tear and Sidon every helper who remains for the Lord shall plunder the Philistines,

[00:41:27] the remnant of the country of Qaftor. Got it. Okay. So I'm not done but let me just cut back

[00:41:33] to my notes for a minute. Sure. Okay. So he's talking about the afflicted cities, right? Yeah.

[00:41:41] And so he's saying to cut off from tear and Sidon that was very likely meant that

[00:41:48] any available Phoenician help would be prevented from reaching Philistia. Okay. Okay. All right.

[00:41:55] So tear and Sidon were Phoenician cities, not Philistine, but they were probably in a desperate

[00:42:01] alliance with the Philistines against the force of Babylon. Got it. And all of these names are

[00:42:06] like so confusing to me. Like all I heard was Mesopotamia, Mesopotamia, Mesopotamia.

[00:42:13] And that word Mesopotamia was not in the paragraph that I just read to you. Got it. Okay. Yeah. Like

[00:42:19] it's all one deserti blur to me because I am ignorant. Right. Can I interject here for just a

[00:42:26] second? Sure. So I did a quick search on the the Googles here and what I came up with is that

[00:42:32] they were people that settled in Canaan and then they were in the Gaza area like there's a bunch

[00:42:36] of city states in that area and that they were they had a rivalry with the Israelites

[00:42:42] which almost makes it sound to me like these are the people like you know how the Israelites

[00:42:46] destroyed all the Ammonites and all the Canaanites and all that. All that. This sounds like maybe a

[00:42:53] remnant of that. The Jews guys. Yes. And that's why there's this rivalry. That tracks because I'm

[00:42:59] actually going to mention something about that in a minute. And it also says they were skilled

[00:43:02] seafaring people. So like, you know, they always talk about the sea. Well, yeah. Yeah. And

[00:43:07] kaptor was actually Crete of Greece. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. So that tracks. Got it. Okay. Yep. So

[00:43:13] okay, continuing on with our chapter. Sure. Baldness has come upon Gaza. Ashkelon is cut off

[00:43:20] with the remnant of their valley. Okay. So now let's go back to our notes for a minute. Sure. Okay.

[00:43:27] So the NIV explains it a little bit more clearly. That's a different version than what we're

[00:43:32] reading, which we're reading the NIV. But this is new international version. But that's

[00:43:39] what we're reading. So I don't understand what they're quoting here. Okay. Because we are reading

[00:43:43] the NIV. Okay. Right? I think you're reading it so we are. So I think that maybe this is a

[00:43:51] misquote of what translation but this translation whatever it is says Gaza will shave her head

[00:43:59] in mourning rather than what Ars says baldness has come upon Gaza. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, would make more

[00:44:05] sense with the because that that indicates what they've said in the past as far as like

[00:44:10] grieving practices and things like that. Exactly. So yeah. I read from the NIV so no,

[00:44:17] that wasn't there. You are incorrect. Whoever you are. So the Septuagint, the Greek version

[00:44:24] translation describes the quote unquote valley as the remainder of Anakim in place of the remnant

[00:44:34] of their valley. Okay. So you know where it said baldness has come upon Gaza, Ashkahn is cut off

[00:44:42] with the remnant of their valley. Okay. Yeah. What that means is the Anakim were the race of giants

[00:44:51] that were said to live in the southern part of the land of Canaan. Oh, the ones that they came

[00:44:58] across and they were first trying to enter. Interesting. Okay. Yeah. The use of the term

[00:45:04] Anakim seeks to link the people of Gaza and Ashkahn with the race of giants that inhabited

[00:45:12] Canaan before the arrival of the Israelites. So exactly what you said. A remnant of the

[00:45:18] people that they were trying to conquer. Yes, that is correct. Interesting. Right? Yeah. Like,

[00:45:24] oh, okay. I see. Okay. So carrying on unless did you have something else that you could add?

[00:45:30] No, I just yeah, that's just I mostly I was silent because I was just thinking that over

[00:45:34] my head and I'm like, that's like it's we've talked about it throughout especially this

[00:45:41] book. The stretch of this book. Because like there's so much that God says that is like

[00:45:47] final and with such force that he's going to do these things but he doesn't actually ever

[00:45:53] follow through. And like we've been talking about it in the context of Egypt,

[00:45:56] but we've kind of alluded back to some of the stuff that he said back when he was trying to

[00:45:59] destroy some of these other tribes. And so in here we are even the Giants even in this book

[00:46:04] that's still coming back up. Yeah. That's amazing. They might be giants and you still didn't kill

[00:46:10] them. Right? Yeah. Okay, so carrying on how long will you cut yourself? Oh, you sword of the Lord,

[00:46:18] how long until you are quiet? Put yourself up into your scabbard rest and be still.

[00:46:25] He's he's really he's arguing with the sword. Okay. Okay. And then the response is how can it

[00:46:34] be quiet seeing the Lord has given it a charge against Ashclon and against the seashore there he

[00:46:40] has appointed it. Okay, the end. So he's he's going to destroy them. The sword. Yeah. Right. So

[00:46:49] the dialogue between the sword of the Lord and the Prophet is a form of personification about

[00:46:55] which there are several legends. Okay. You know, the most famous like the sword right would be

[00:47:02] Excalibur, right? Okay. Not saying that that comes specifically from that but there are always

[00:47:09] like Beowulf had his very special magical sword throughout cultures throughout cultures. There's

[00:47:17] always this special magical sword. Right. Sure. And so this alludes to that whole legendary

[00:47:24] magical swords ability to talk with you. Got it. Okay. So there is no consensus as to when this

[00:47:36] speech was delivered. Sure. It may have occurred during the fourth year of Zedekiah,

[00:47:41] but others assign it to sometime even during the reign of Josiah. I think I said this

[00:47:45] the last time for the last chapter. But these little asides about the different

[00:47:51] countries don't sound like I mean they just sound so out of place. Yeah, like we could do without

[00:47:58] this. We've never heard Jeremiah even once evoke this poetry and personification of inanimate

[00:48:08] objects and like what the fuck is this right? Is this Baruch trying to like, you know make

[00:48:15] his book prettier and like sell it? This doesn't fit. No. Like it doesn't, it's not doing it for me.

[00:48:23] No. It's very out of place but it does belong together with the chapter that we just read.

[00:48:30] Sure. Sure. Like all of these you could tell they were a unit because they belong together

[00:48:36] but they don't belong in this book. Right. So yeah I find that interesting. Yeah. So there

[00:48:42] we go. Is that all we had today then? That is all we had today then. All right well that was

[00:48:48] Jeremiah chapter 47. Sure as fuck was. Which means that we will be back tomorrow with Jeremiah chapter

[00:48:55] 48. All right we'll see you then. Bye.

[00:49:03] Husband. Wife. Do you remember what happened yesterday and where the fuck we are today?

[00:49:08] Well yesterday we read Jeremiah chapter 47. Sure as fuck did. And we talked about the Philistines

[00:49:15] and also the Egyptians again. So like they said or like you said that we were going to be talking

[00:49:21] about different you know countries but they followed, they talked about the Philistines and then

[00:49:26] kept talking about the Egyptians and how they're all gonna die. Everybody's gonna die.

[00:49:31] Because God doesn't like them or something this time. Sometimes. Right. I mean well I

[00:49:37] guess the Egyptians he's pretty much always hated. Yeah. I don't know. I don't think he's really ever

[00:49:41] really I can't think of a time where he liked the Egyptians. I mean from the beginning he was

[00:49:46] trying to get his people out of there. Right but and every time his people try to ask for help

[00:49:50] from the Egyptians. He's like don't do that. God's like fucking don't don't talk to those people.

[00:49:53] Not the Egyptians. What the fuck are you thinking? Get away from those Egyptians. And I'm like

[00:49:57] but it's Egypt they have cool stuff. Right right. And then God's like you're being

[00:50:03] stereotypy. Can you not? And I'm like hold on hold on hold on. You're telling me I'm being

[00:50:10] stereotypy. Okay I just had a whole conversation that I made up. Okay okay. Between me and God.

[00:50:16] Yeah. And I need to stop now. Okay sorry. All right yeah that's what happened. So basically

[00:50:22] the Philistines are gonna die and the Egyptians are gonna die because God doesn't like them and

[00:50:28] he's saying that they're gonna die. Everybody's gonna die. So they're gonna die. Yes.

[00:50:32] Okay that was Jeremiah chapter 47. Sure as fuck was. Which means that today we're getting into.

[00:50:38] Jeremiah chapter 48. And a quick note about how we're handling today's episode. Yeah this chapter is

[00:50:45] long as fuck. Um comparatively speaking to the ones we have in reading. Yeah. So um during the book

[00:50:52] of Jeremiah I had kind of changed how I had been doing my research and kind of referencing

[00:50:58] notes throughout and so I'd read and I'd be like okay hang on let me hit my notes to like explain

[00:51:03] what the fuck we just read. Right. But this chapter is so long that I don't want to make this more

[00:51:10] painful than it already will be because it's so long. Right. So what we're gonna do is um we'll

[00:51:17] do chapter 48 and then Thursday will be chapter 49 and then Friday will be chapter 50. Yeah.

[00:51:23] And then on Monday we'll finish up the book with chapter 51. Also there's not gonna be a Q&A on Saturday.

[00:51:31] That's what I forgot to say. Yeah. Yeah. And then so on Tuesday we'll do a big Q&A for these final

[00:51:38] chapters that all fall into their own little yeah doohickey their own little unit. Yep.

[00:51:44] And then we'll do a overview of the whole book of Jeremiah on Wednesday and that's probably

[00:51:51] when we'll also do our you're always wrong. You're always wrong. No we'll do that on Thursday.

[00:51:56] Well sometimes we do it with the wrap up sometimes we don't. We'll probably do it separate.

[00:52:02] Okay. Just because we don't we. It is a big end. We gotta we gotta stretch the week out you know.

[00:52:06] Well yeah that's true. So okay. That's all. Yeah we'll probably do that on Thursday then.

[00:52:11] Yeah. And then so I don't know if we'll do something special or different next Friday

[00:52:16] or if we'll just take the day off. We'll play it by year. We'll figure shit out. Yeah.

[00:52:20] Anyway that's how things are gonna be going. That's the plan. Yeah but right now we're getting

[00:52:24] into Jeremiah chapter 48. Are you ready to do this? Sure as fuck am. All right let's do it. Okie dokie.

[00:52:30] All right hop in into Jeremiah 48. Okay. And let us not forget that we are in the middle of a bunch

[00:52:47] of chapters that all belong to this one little unit that is about God yelling at various nations.

[00:52:55] Right. And that those chapters do not they do not follow chronologically one to the next.

[00:53:06] They are more geographically based. Yep. And they start with Egypt and then move on north and

[00:53:14] just head on to the other day. Do they progress north as they go? Kind of yeah.

[00:53:19] Okay. Yeah. Right. Yeah that's what the notes previously. Got it. Yeah so they started with their

[00:53:27] bestie frenemies and then moved from there to and you suck and you suck and you suck. Right.

[00:53:32] So that's what we're in the middle and this one is about Moab. Oh yeah that's fun. Again I

[00:53:39] thought they were destroyed. They weren't. Right right. So now you know. Yeah.

[00:53:46] Apparently they have a lot to say about this. Well that's why you were like oh it's so long and I was

[00:53:51] like but it's interesting you'll be okay. Okay. Yeah. It's Moab. Moab. Yeah. That can't ever be bad.

[00:53:57] No I'm actually curious now. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Because again we haven't talked about the Moabites

[00:54:04] since like Exodus. They're supposed to be wiped out. Right. Yeah. I mean maybe we talked about

[00:54:08] them slightly after that but like Exodus was where they were big. Yeah. So it's been a

[00:54:12] while. It sure as fuck has. All right chapter 48. All right. Against Moab. That's a full sentence.

[00:54:19] Oh. Okay. It's not though. It's not. Thus says the Lord of hosts the God of Israel. Whoa Tenebo

[00:54:28] for it is plundered. Courage of theme is shamed and taken. The high stronghold is

[00:54:35] shamed and dismayed. No more praise of Moab. In Heshbon they have devised evil against her. Come

[00:54:43] and let us cut her off as a nation. You mean like God said he was going to do like eons ago. Well

[00:54:49] there's a difference between wiping them out and cutting them off before they were supposed to

[00:54:54] wipe them out. Yeah. They didn't. Now he's like oh yeah I forgot to wipe them out so no we're

[00:54:59] just going to cut them off. Okay. Okay I believe you. I'm assuming cutting them off involves slavery

[00:55:05] at some level. Oh probably. Or something. Child sacrifice. Right. You know. Okay. You shall also

[00:55:11] be cut down oh mad men. Yeah. He's not happy with them. Right. The sword shall pursue you.

[00:55:20] The magical sword maybe that he was talking to. Yeah it was just talking to a sword last

[00:55:24] chapter. Yeah a voice of crying shall be heard from a whorem name. Whorem name. Okay. Okay. Yeah.

[00:55:34] Plundering and great destruction. Moab is destroyed. Her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.

[00:55:40] For in the ascent of Lujith they ascend with continual weeping. This is definitely going

[00:55:46] to require a lot of notes. All of these name places they're just all various cities the end.

[00:55:54] Okay. Like various cities in Moab. Got it. Okay. And this city in Moab. This seems so

[00:55:59] like not relevant to anything we've been talking about forever. We commented on that yesterday.

[00:56:05] Right. Basically you can fill in the blank with XYZ country and then within each country

[00:56:12] there are further little fill in the blank whatever cities there are in that country. Yeah. Yeah. So

[00:56:18] that's what's happening. I feel like this was like a like a

[00:56:23] profit school exercise where they were like all right we're going to have you write about how

[00:56:28] God would react to writing about Egypt during the time of Jeremiah. Yeah. Go. Yeah. How would

[00:56:37] that go. You get Egypt. You get Philistine. You get Moabites. Yeah. And like they assign

[00:56:44] different sections to everybody. Yeah. That's what's happening here. Right. And they took the best of

[00:56:48] the best. Yeah. And they made the cut. So the top 10. These are the winners. I feel like this is

[00:56:53] just like a writing assignment. It is how I feel about it. It's the Academy Awards. It's the

[00:56:58] webbies. Maybe. Yeah. It's the webbies. It's just not this definitely and it does not belong

[00:57:04] in Jeremiah. It really doesn't. I don't know what the fuck this shit is but it's weird. It's not the

[00:57:10] same. No. For in the ascent of Lujith they ascend with continual weeping for in the descent of

[00:57:18] horror name that enemies have heard a cry of destruction flee save your lives and be like

[00:57:25] the Juniper in the wilderness for because you have trusted in your works and your treasures

[00:57:31] you also shall be taken. So they got prideful and trusted in their own shit. Right. And Chimosh

[00:57:38] that's their national God. He's talking to these people like he talks to the Israelites. I know.

[00:57:43] Like this is very weird because in so far to date God has only really cared about

[00:57:51] the Israelites from what I can tell but now he's like he's chastising these other nations

[00:57:57] and these other nations are like your fucking piehole Jeremiah. I don't know who your God is.

[00:58:01] Yeah. Who the fuck none of our people have heard from him. If he's so big why ain't he talking

[00:58:06] to our profits right fuck off. Yeah. Go mind your business. Yeah. And Chimosh their national

[00:58:14] deity yeah shall go forth into captivity his priests and his princes together

[00:58:21] and the plunderers shall come against every city no one shall escape the valley also shall

[00:58:27] perish and the plane shall be destroyed. Okay. The Boeing plane. Just kidding.

[00:58:35] I mean there's some problems with Boeing planes so that's why I said that. Oh I didn't know that

[00:58:39] you were making that correlation there. Yeah they're talking about planes and valleys. Yeah yeah

[00:58:44] I was like I got that you mentioned Boeing planes I didn't know that you're putting

[00:58:48] this together with the recent problems that they were having. Because they're saying the plane

[00:58:51] shall be destroyed and I'm like yes the Boeing plane shall be destroyed. I now understand

[00:58:55] that you actually put that all together in your mind and made it work. Yeah. I didn't realize

[00:58:59] that that was happened until I actually asked. Why else would I bring up Boeing planes. Because

[00:59:04] plane. Yeah. And it's a plane. Yes. I thought that was all there was to it. The Boeing plane.

[00:59:10] I've got it now. Okay. I've got it. I just don't understand why you didn't get it in the first

[00:59:14] place. Just move along. Just move along. Okay. Okay. Anyway the Boeing plane shall be destroyed

[00:59:21] as the Lord has spoken. Okay. Ooh see give wings to Moab. That she may flee and get away

[00:59:30] for her city shall be desolate without any to dwell in them. Cursed is he who does the work

[00:59:37] of the Lord deceitfully and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood. Yeah we like

[00:59:44] putting our sword in blood. How yeah right I mean obviously that happens a lot with God. But like

[00:59:51] he's telling them to flee right. Mm hmm. God is all knowing all seen all powerful right according

[00:59:58] to this book. Yeah. Where do you run to. They're like go ahead and flee. Oh is that what it is.

[01:00:05] Gotta getcha. But I mean I don't know I feel like he's saying that if you run I might you might

[01:00:10] not die. No he's okay so he's telling Jeremiah so Jeremiah is having this vision of what will

[01:00:19] happen. And so Jeremiah saying these guys are going to run like I'm seeing them run go ahead run

[01:00:25] run. Okay. You're not going to get away because God gonna getcha. Got it. So it's very confusing

[01:00:32] because God's not really talking here Jeremiah is supposedly and then Jeremiah is like having a

[01:00:40] vision and he's trying to describe the vision so he's like telling the future but in present tense.

[01:00:45] Got it. So it's all very weird. Okay. Okay so Moab has been at ease from his youth. He has

[01:00:52] settled on his dregs and has not been emptied from vessel to vessel nor has he gone into

[01:00:59] captivity. Interesting. So Moab's done pretty well over the years apparently. But it's interesting

[01:01:04] that he's referring to Moab as a boy instead of right all his other cities are girls. Yeah. You

[01:01:10] know. Like I guess Moab's a bad boy. Yeah. We all like a bad boy. That's why I love the Moabites.

[01:01:18] Therefore his taste remained in him and his scent has not changed. Therefore behold the days

[01:01:25] are coming says the Lord that I shall send him wine workers who will tip him over and empty his vessels

[01:01:33] and break the bottles. Okay. Moab shall be ashamed of Chimosh. I bet they aren't though. Yeah. As the

[01:01:41] house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence. Hmm. Oh. Where's Bethel? That was

[01:01:50] their pre-God. Oh. Okay. Yeah. You know that El guy. Right. I remember El but I didn't remember

[01:01:58] Bethel. Yeah. Okay. How can you say we are mighty and strong men for the war? Moab is plundered

[01:02:06] and gone up from her cities. Her chosen young men have gone down to the slaughter says the king

[01:02:13] whose name is the Lord of hosts. So God. Yeah. So God. Just say God. And they're not unique in

[01:02:19] this. I mean, you know the Babylonians are taking over everybody apparently. Right. Except Egypt.

[01:02:25] Except Egypt. The calamity of Moab is near at hand and his affliction comes quickly.

[01:02:32] Bemoan him all of you who are around him and all you who know his name say how the strong

[01:02:41] staff is broken the beautiful rod. Hmm. And how Oh daughter inhabiting Daibon come down from your

[01:02:53] glory and sit in thirst for the plunderer of Moab has come against you. Yeah, he has. Okay.

[01:03:01] He has destroyed your strongholds. For those keeping track that was husband rolling his eyes

[01:03:08] that was definitely me rolling my eyes. I'm sure you could hear him rolling his eyes,

[01:03:13] but just in case I want to dispel it out for those playing bingo. I forgot to share the bingo link.

[01:03:19] Oh no. Yeah. Well, I'm sure that the people who are in our discord, they get probably listening.

[01:03:27] Yeah. They know what we're talking about and they will share the bingo board probably for all

[01:03:33] of our listeners who are going to discord. Right. Okay. Oh, inhabitant of A R R R R.

[01:03:44] A R O E R. How would you say that? A R R R. That's what I said. Stand by the watch and I'm sorry.

[01:03:54] Stand by the way and watch as Kim who flees and her who escapes say, oh, this happened.

[01:04:02] What? I mean, they got conquered by Babylon. What happened to you? It was war. What?

[01:04:11] Moab is shamed for he has broken down. Wail and cry tell it in Arnan that Moab is plundered

[01:04:19] and judgment has come on the plain country on Holon and Jazah and Mephaph on Dibbon and Nebo

[01:04:30] and Beth Dibla Thame on Dasher and dancer and victim on Courgette Thame and Beth Gamoul and Beth Mion.

[01:04:39] Well, they're going to tell us all over the fucking place. Yeah. On Kariath and Bosra on all the cities

[01:04:45] of the land of Moab, you know, etc. etc. etc. Yeah. You know, all the other ones. I think we got

[01:04:51] the big ones out of the way though there are a lot of fucking cities far or near. The horn

[01:04:57] of Moab is cut off and his arm is broken, says the Lord. I wonder if you remember all the references

[01:05:05] to horn horns earlier in the Bible. I wonder if that's a hearkening. Well, because the Moabites were

[01:05:12] almost Israelite adjacent, like they weren't really yeah, they were almost like cousins, you know. Sure.

[01:05:18] So I kind of wonder if that's something that was more prevalent in their culture than it was

[01:05:25] later in the Israelite culture. Right. Just interesting, maybe. No, I agree. I agree. Make him drunk.

[01:05:32] I like that. Make me drunk. Yeah. Yeah. Because he exalted himself against the Lord. Moab shall

[01:05:39] wallow in his vomit. Ew. And he shall also be in derision. Oh, that reminds me today. I was

[01:05:46] babysitting and the three-year-old goes, ew, look! And I looked and I go, ew, what's that?

[01:05:53] And he goes, ew, the cat threw up. And I was like, okay, well, that's over there. Let's finish lunch

[01:06:00] first and then I will go take care of that mess. But I'm not doing that in the middle of lunch.

[01:06:05] And then he goes, like 10 minutes later, ew, look! And I was like, oh no, what now? And so I

[01:06:11] look over and I go, huh! And he goes, what that cat doing? And I said, well, he's cleaning

[01:06:17] up the mess for me. He was eating his own vomit. Oh, that's disgusting. It's not gross when a cat

[01:06:25] does it. Well, it's still gross. It's not. It is. Not when a cat does it. Okay. It made my day.

[01:06:31] Whatever you say. I'm just letting you know that happened to me today. So anyway, yeah, vomit,

[01:06:36] wallow in it. And he shall also be in derision. Which is worse, wallowing in vomit or being

[01:06:43] made fun of. Wallowing in vomit is definitely worse. Yeah. I feel like putting those two as

[01:06:48] you're going to do this bad thing and this mildly whatever thing. For was not Israel a derision

[01:06:55] to you? Was he found among thieves? For whenever you speak of him, you shake your head and scorn.

[01:07:02] That's how I do it. I shake my head and scorn all the time. Yeah. You who dwell in Moab,

[01:07:09] leave the cities and dwell in the rock, the Rock Johnson Dwayne and be like the dove which

[01:07:16] makes her nest in the sides of the cave's mouth. Okay. That makes her what? They're going to other

[01:07:23] places. They're not they're not living in the cities anymore. They're gonna live in the rocks.

[01:07:27] They're gonna live in the mountains. It was policy. They're gonna. Yeah. It was policy.

[01:07:33] We have heard the pride of Moab. He is exceedingly proud. That was a parentheses voice. Okay. Of his

[01:07:40] loftiness and arrogance and pride and of the haughtiness, haughtiness of his heart. Yeah.

[01:07:47] I know his wrath says the Lord, but it is not right. His lies have made nothing right,

[01:07:54] nothing. Therefore I will wail for Moab and I will cry out for all of Moab. God

[01:08:00] gonna get emotional, huh? Yeah. I mean that's maybe more than he's done for his own people.

[01:08:05] Right. I will mourn for the men of Kier Hores. Wow. He's gonna cry for somebody? I feel like.

[01:08:13] And it ain't his own people? Right. I feel like he's treating them very much like he treats

[01:08:17] the Israelites here. This is strange. Yeah. This is really strange because he generally

[01:08:21] talks about foreign nations without any regard. He's like, fuck you, fuck you, fuck those,

[01:08:28] fuck these. Right. Yeah. Oh, vine of Sibma. That is one vine. I will weep for you with the weeping

[01:08:39] of Jezair. Your plants have gone over the sea. They reach to the Sea of Jezair. The plunderer

[01:08:46] has fallen on your summer fruit and your vintage. Technically wouldn't the plunderer

[01:08:52] and the conqueror and the person killing them all? Wouldn't that technically be God?

[01:08:59] Because God is using these people as a tool. Yes and no though. Okay. He's referring to his tools

[01:09:07] when he says the plunderer is doing nothing. Yeah, but it's very convenient to say

[01:09:11] somebody else did it and then you get to weep and you get the best of most worlds.

[01:09:16] I get to kill you and I get to weep. I hate it that I made somebody kill you.

[01:09:21] Right. That time when I, you know, forced somebody to stab you with a knife.

[01:09:26] Oh, it was so sad that that happened to you. Yeah. That I made happen. Right.

[01:09:31] Joy and gladness are taken from the plentiful field and from the land of Moab.

[01:09:37] I have caused wine to fail from the wine presses. Not bad wine. Yeah. Oh my god, don't do that.

[01:09:46] No one will tread with joyous shouting. Not joyous shouting. Yeah. Not. Can't have any of that.

[01:09:53] Exclamation point. Right. No squishing grapes with joy. Right. Because that's what he meant,

[01:09:59] treading, you know, your squishing grapes. Sure. Sure. Yeah. From the cry of Heshban to

[01:10:04] Ali-Alai and to Jehaz they have uttered their voice from Zayar to Heronium like a three year old

[01:10:14] heifer. A three year old heifer, huh? Specifically. Yeah. Yeah. Not a two year old. Not a four year

[01:10:20] old and five. I wonder what the distinction is with a three year old heifer versus like a two or

[01:10:24] four year old heifer. Is that when they go to slaughter maybe? Probably because they're old

[01:10:30] enough that they're like... It would make sense in the context that we're reading it in. Yeah.

[01:10:34] Because that's what we learned yesterday when he's calling somebody a heifer. Yeah. It just

[01:10:39] seems odd that they specifically said a three year old heifer. Yeah. Yeah. Like you're big enough

[01:10:45] that your milk has come in but you haven't maybe, I don't know what heifers do besides... But we're

[01:10:51] going to slaughter you. Yeah. So... Yeah. We're going to get you. Yeah. For the waters of Nimrim

[01:10:56] also shall be desolate. Okay. Nimrim. I wonder if that's related to Nimrod. I doubt it.

[01:11:02] Probably you're right. Yeah. Moreover said the Lord, I will cause to cease in Moab the one

[01:11:10] who offers sacrifices in the high places and burns incense to his gods. Okay. Yeah. You go.

[01:11:17] Just like he does in his own lands. Okay. All right. Therefore my heart shall wail like

[01:11:23] flutes for Moab. You notice he didn't really talk this way about the Egyptians or the Philistines?

[01:11:30] No. He was like, fuck you. Here's a bomb for your entire land. Yeah. I don't care. Right. And die.

[01:11:36] But he is definitely treating the Moabites more like his own people than like an enemy.

[01:11:40] Right. But I just, I have a problem with this phrasing. Yeah. Flutes don't wail.

[01:11:45] No they don't. So when he said my heart shall wail like flutes. Right. I don't know what that

[01:11:50] means. Maybe we have never heard somebody play flutes the way that they're going to be

[01:11:56] played that day. Maybe there is a way to make a flute wail. We just haven't heard it because

[01:12:00] it's so terrible. Oh and you know what? I'm probably thinking of a recorder. That's what

[01:12:06] you learn to play in elementary school. Right. Yeah. I always call it a flute and then the

[01:12:10] teacher's always like, bring your recorders. Yeah. Still I would not. I mean I have

[01:12:15] heard a flute. I know what a flute sounds like. And they don't wail. And I would not refer

[01:12:18] to it as wailing. A tuba might wail but a tuba is not a flute. Yeah. Right. Although I

[01:12:23] guess if you're just talking about things that you stick in your mouth and blow air into.

[01:12:30] And like flutes my heart shall wail for the men of Kier Horus. Okay. Well that's some

[01:12:37] magic right there. You're going to make a flute wail. Right. Therefore the riches they have

[01:12:42] acquired have perished for every head shall be bald and every beard clipped. So they're in

[01:12:49] mourning too. Yeah. On all the hands shall be cuts and on the loins sack cloth. Oh my gosh.

[01:12:58] I have cuts all over my hands but that's because I am a klutzy bitch. And I play with cats.

[01:13:07] Just because I think it would be funny. I want everybody to show up to my funeral wearing sack

[01:13:12] cloth. Oh my gosh. I will. Yeah. Right. Because I know you're going to die before me. I think

[01:13:16] that totally should be a thing. Yes. Yes. Wait wait. I want to die before you.

[01:13:21] Why do you say that? We had this discussion earlier. Did we? Statistically women live longer than men.

[01:13:26] You're probably going to die before me and then everybody's going to be like wife,

[01:13:30] murdered husband. Oh yeah. We did talk about that earlier. I know. You're so tired. That was

[01:13:34] one before we got on the episode. So? I'm just saying. We still talked about it earlier.

[01:13:38] We talked about it earlier when nobody else heard us say it. Okay but literally. Other

[01:13:42] but literally I said men died before women and you're like what? Well. Like as though you'd never

[01:13:48] heard me. I am beyond extremely tired right now. So like you know I'm just I'm not processing

[01:13:54] things as well as I could. Okay. So you have to give me a little bit of slack here. I'm giving

[01:13:59] you a little bit of slack. Just a little. Okay. All right. All right. Yeah. So I'm going to

[01:14:03] wear a sack cloth to your funeral. Yeah. Yeah. Everybody it's required. I mean I think we

[01:14:08] could probably talk your mom into it but I don't know about anybody else. And then specifically

[01:14:11] I want everybody to put to like roll around in the dirt and put their head in the dirt

[01:14:17] because that's what they do right? And you gotta pull your hair out though. I'm not doing that.

[01:14:20] Wow. I mean you can. I'm not pulling my hair out. You guys can use wigs.

[01:14:24] I will. Just bring some like hair pulling wigs. You know I was talking about your mom doing it

[01:14:28] like as though she's going to outlive you. That's hilarious. I mean. I better start

[01:14:36] making some plans. You better make a will. Yeah. You better buy some insurance. Why? Why?

[01:14:44] No. No. No. Maybe. No. A general lamentation on all the housetops of Moab and in its streets

[01:14:57] for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which is no pleasure says the Lord.

[01:15:03] Yeah. You broke that bitch. But not with pleasure. Nope. No. No. Ew. They shall wail how she has broken

[01:15:11] down, how Moab has turned her back with shame. Now she's a girl like it's not important but what

[01:15:19] gender is this city? Whatever's convenient. Okay. Yeah. Well now she's a shameful whore.

[01:15:24] So Moab shall be a derision and a dismay to all those about her for thus says the Lord.

[01:15:31] Behold one shall fly like an eagle. Does it really say that? Fly like an eagle. Oh wow. Yeah.

[01:15:37] And spread his wings over Moab. Yeah. Okay. Karioth is taken and the strongholds are surprised.

[01:15:46] The mighty men's hearts in Moab on that day shall be like the heart of a woman in birth

[01:15:52] pain. There it is. We had to get that woman in birth pain reference. I mean you can't go too

[01:15:56] long without not using it. Yeah. Definitely you, Serp, my pain. Yeah. Do please always. And Moab

[01:16:04] shall be destroyed as a people because he exalted himself against the Lord. But we need to clarify.

[01:16:11] Is this time is it for real this time? No. It's never for real. Okay. No. I would not be

[01:16:16] surprised to learn that there are Moabites still alive today. Well I mean right. I would

[01:16:22] not be surprised to learn that there are Giants walking the earth. You would. I would be surprised

[01:16:27] to find that there's Giants walking the earth. I was mostly joking because like God's like I'm

[01:16:32] going to get them. Right. Right. I would not be surprised. The people that got that the Bible

[01:16:36] refers to as Giants. Yes. Which weren't actually Giants. Correct. So. Correct. Yeah. I would

[01:16:42] not be surprised if there was a a share of whole every other backyard in our neighborhood.

[01:16:49] I would be very fucking surprised about that. I would not be shocked at all because I'd be like,

[01:16:55] yeah that tracks he never did wipe that shit out and then they brought it to America. We should get

[01:16:59] some we just put them in everybody's backyards. Oh, let's make a share of poles that way like we

[01:17:04] have like all the share of poles and people's backyards around here. Oh, that would be so funny.

[01:17:08] Yeah. Just like tossing over the fence. It could be like a it could be like a gorilla

[01:17:11] marketing campaign. We just we just go around putting a share of poles and people's yards

[01:17:17] and then and then what call 911 and be like, I have an emergency. I spotted in a share of

[01:17:22] pole in this my neighbor's backyard. I think that they might be Moabites.

[01:17:28] The Israelites had them too though. I know. I mean it wasn't just you know,

[01:17:31] I know it's not exclusive to any particular group I guess but right mostly I'm just full

[01:17:36] of shit. Yeah. Yeah. Fear and the pit and the snare shall be upon you. Oh inhabitant

[01:17:42] of Moab says the Lord he who flees from the fear shall fall into the pit and he who gets

[01:17:52] out of the pit shall be caught in the snare. And we've heard this type of wording before.

[01:17:57] Yeah, I don't remember it was like Isaiah. Well, no, I don't remember where it was either.

[01:18:02] But somebody fell in a pit and then they crawled out but they still were caught in a snare.

[01:18:07] So yeah, might as well stay in the fuck. But like that was almost used verbatim at some point

[01:18:11] in another book. Yeah, I'll make sure that we cover that. Yeah.

[01:18:15] I'm sure it'll be referenced in my notes. Sure. For upon Moab upon it I will bring the year of

[01:18:21] their punishment says the Lord. Damn he's gonna punish him for a year. Either that or

[01:18:28] this that he's gonna announce the year that it's happening. Is that what that means?

[01:18:32] That makes more sense to me. Does it? I don't know. Who knows. It's all difficult to

[01:18:37] understand. Those who fled stood under the shadow of Heshban because of exhaustion.

[01:18:45] They were exhausted, but a fire shall come out of Heshban, a flame. Oh, shit. From the mist of

[01:18:51] Sihon and shall devour the brow of Moab. Wow. So they're gonna hide there and then he's just

[01:18:59] gonna like some fire. Yeah. That's that's rude. The crown of the head of the sons of Tumult.

[01:19:07] Okay. Whoa to you, Moab. The people of Chishmosh, I'm sorry, Chimosh. Right. Parish.

[01:19:15] For your sons have been taken captive. And your daughter's captive. But that's not

[01:19:21] destroying them. They're still alive. Oh, here we go. Here we go. Here it comes. Ready? Yeah.

[01:19:27] Yet I will bring back the captives of Moab in the latter days says the Lord. Thus far is

[01:19:34] the judgment of Moab the end. So it really does like I am curious about the relationship

[01:19:39] in this timeframe between Moab and Israel. Yeah. Because there's been, I feel like they were friendly.

[01:19:47] You know, like I in so far as the inner Mary different types of people could be friendly.

[01:19:52] Right. I mean, Bruce was a Moabite. Right. Right. And but the fact that they're getting

[01:19:58] the specific mention in Jeremiah is it seems very out of place.

[01:20:03] I'm curious, I'm curious where that relationship stood at this point in time with regard to

[01:20:10] Jeremiah. Agreed. So that's definitely something I'm interested in learning about.

[01:20:14] I will, I will bring that to the notes. Yeah. So Moabites, they're screwed too.

[01:20:20] Kind of, but he's like, but don't worry. I got you. He's gonna destroy them all,

[01:20:25] but he's gonna bring them back. Well, this is the first time he said,

[01:20:28] I'm going to destroy you all, but not really. Yeah. Usually he just stops it all.

[01:20:32] Yeah. Yeah. He's not really said before. But he's treating them essentially the same way he's

[01:20:37] treating the Israelites. Yeah. Like fuck you all except for some of you. Right.

[01:20:42] I mean, it sounds almost exactly like the same story. Yeah. Which is, which is interesting

[01:20:46] to me. Yeah. Because it's definitely different. It's a different tone that he's taken with

[01:20:51] the Philistines or the Egyptians in this little narrative that we're in at the end of Jeremiah

[01:20:57] here. Yeah. So I feel like they were intermarried a lot. That's why. Sure. But I, that relationship

[01:21:03] is, it intrigues me. Me too. Me too. That being said, we are going to be doing

[01:21:09] things a little weird here at the end of this week and into next week. Yes. So we're

[01:21:14] going to be finishing up through Friday with our regular episodes this week.

[01:21:20] And then no Q and A on Saturday, Saturday this week, which we already said in our intro.

[01:21:24] Right. I'm just reiterating for those that listened all the way through. Okay. So no Q

[01:21:28] and A on Saturday. We'll probably do a Patreon on Sunday and then we'll be back on Monday

[01:21:33] with the last chapter of 51. Yeah. Oh, Jeremiah. And then we'll get into our,

[01:21:38] we'll do the Q and A at that point for the, this unit, this whole unit. Yeah. And then I'll

[01:21:44] have a regular wrap up episodes that we do at the end of every book. So. Yeah. Through the rest of

[01:21:48] the week. Through the rest of the week. Yep. So that was Jeremiah chapter 48. Eight. Eight.

[01:21:55] And tomorrow we will be back with. Jeremiah chapter 49. All right. We'll see you guys then. Bye.

[01:22:02] Even when we're on a budget, we still deserve nice things.

[01:23:05] Husband. Wife. Do you remember what the fuck happened yesterday and where the hell we are

[01:23:10] today? Well, yesterday we read Jeremiah chapter 48. We did. And in that chapter, God or Jeremiah

[01:23:19] or both of them, whatever along with Baruch probably. Yeah, something like that.

[01:23:24] We're talking about the Moabites, which caught me a little bit off guard, right? Because I thought

[01:23:30] all the Moabites had been wiped out previously because that's what they told us. I think

[01:23:34] at least that's how I recalled it. It was like a deep cut from like

[01:23:37] Exodus. Yeah, at least I mean, definitely they were talking about them in Exodus. They

[01:23:41] might have talked about them a little bit past there, but not much. Right. So I was

[01:23:45] I was a little thrown for a loop. And then the way that God was referring to them was like

[01:23:51] almost like he talks about the Israelites. Yeah, it was very weird. Like don't worry,

[01:23:55] even though I'm going to kill most of you, a remnant will remain. Yeah. And it's like, why?

[01:24:00] Yeah, it almost sounded dead on like the the Israelite story. Yeah. That we've been,

[01:24:05] you know, kind of hearing over and over again through the different prophets and different

[01:24:08] kings and what have you. Right. And I just was like, okay, so there's other,

[01:24:15] maybe you care about other people? I don't know. I'm confused. God, what the fuck. Right.

[01:24:22] And so anyway, but he's going to kill them, leave a little bit of them. He's going to

[01:24:27] chase them away. They're going to run away. They might come back. And yeah, so that's

[01:24:32] the Moabites. That was the Moabites. And that was chapter 48 of Jeremiah. It sure as

[01:24:36] fuck was. That means that today we're getting into Jeremiah chapter 49. And before we do,

[01:24:42] I don't want to reiterate that for the remainder of this week, including today,

[01:24:47] we are not going to be doing notes throughout the episode because we're going to save them for

[01:24:52] the end of the week due to the nature of these strange, lengthy episodes.

[01:25:01] They're strange and last one, the last one was lengthy, but we just decided that it

[01:25:05] might be better to just do it all in kind of one and over, you know, overarching, geography driven

[01:25:11] things since these are more about the geography of all the various cities lying around surrounding

[01:25:21] Israel. And I feel like if we do notes throughout these, it just might overwhelm the actual

[01:25:25] readings. Yeah. But yeah, anyway, so we're going to be jumping into Jeremiah chapter 49 here.

[01:25:31] You ready to do this? So yeah, yes. Yes. Okay, let's do it. Okie dokie.

[01:25:47] All right, so we are here hopping into Jeremiah chapter 49. All right. And once again, we are in

[01:25:54] the final stages of the book of Jeremiah. Yeah, the last few chapters of which are a unit of chapters

[01:26:05] that kind of go with each other but not with the rest of the book. Right. Yeah, I honestly feel like

[01:26:10] it could have ended at chapter 44 and this could have been thrown in somewhere else.

[01:26:16] Somewhere else. Yeah, these are all oracles directed at various nations and to make it

[01:26:22] even more confusing, they are not chronologically arranged. They are arranged geographically. Got it.

[01:26:31] And so they started with the nearest and then kind of spread out from there. This is a little bit

[01:26:38] of a lengthy chapter but the good news is that we're going to cover like, I don't know, three,

[01:26:44] four, five different little areas of people. So that's fun. Yeah. Okay. So against the Ammonites.

[01:26:52] Ammonites, another one I thought was gone. There we go. That's the full sentence, period. Against

[01:26:57] the Ammonites. Are these, those are probably titles. They are intros to the chapter that we

[01:27:05] have included in this translation that we're using the NIV. They are included as the actual text.

[01:27:15] Actual text. It's part of the verse instead of the intro to the verse. Got it. Because

[01:27:20] we don't really have that. Yeah. So, but they did this the last one too. So I was like,

[01:27:25] this has got to be something like a title. It is, it is. It's an intro kind of thing or a para

[01:27:32] something. I forget what they called it before because it happened early on as well. Got it.

[01:27:37] Okay. So against the Ammonites. Thus says the Lord. Has Israel no sons? Has he no heir?

[01:27:44] Why then does Milcom inherit Gad and his people dwell in it cities? So I don't know who the fuck

[01:27:52] those are. I guess we will find out when we do our notes. Well, I mean, I'm assuming that like,

[01:27:58] you know, like Israel was supposed to inherit all this land, right? Yeah. But lately we've

[01:28:03] dwindled it down to basically Jerusalem and the surrounding land around Jerusalem to where

[01:28:10] that's the only one they've been talking about. So these are like,

[01:28:14] these are the remnants of the other tribes that they supposedly destroyed. Yeah. That never

[01:28:19] actually got destroyed. Right. So that kind of went off and did their own thing. Yeah. Yeah. So

[01:28:24] Milcom inherit Gad. I guess. Sure. Okay. They live in the land where Gad was supposed to live,

[01:28:31] right? Because sure, there's no longer the Israelites there or if there are, they probably

[01:28:36] are intermingled with whatever this other group is the Ammonites or whatever. Sure. Sure. Therefore,

[01:28:42] behold, the days are coming says the Lord that I will cause to be heard an alarm of war in

[01:28:50] roba of the Ammonites. It shall be a desolate mound and her villages shall be burned with fire.

[01:28:58] Then Israel shall take possession of his inheritance says the Lord.

[01:29:04] Well, oh, Heshbon for I is plundered. AI. I have to stop here for just a second because

[01:29:11] we're talking about Israel taking ownership of this land and we're in the book of Jeremiah.

[01:29:18] And if we're to assume that this is Jeremiah speaking or something to do with Jeremiah,

[01:29:23] we're assuming that this is in the same timeframe as Jeremiah, right?

[01:29:28] Essentially. Okay. Essentially. Right. So that would mean that the Babylonians are coming down on

[01:29:35] this part of the land and the Egyptians also maybe were coming in on this part of land. There

[01:29:38] was all this war happening on both sides of this land, right? So what the fuck are they even

[01:29:44] thinking about talking about Israel taking over this land? Right. This sounds so out of place.

[01:29:49] This sounds like it should have been back in like it sounds like it's from

[01:29:53] a different part of the Bible. Right. I don't buy that this is

[01:29:57] anywhere or anything to do with Jeremiah or this time period. No, I totally agree. I totally agree.

[01:30:02] Sorry. That's all. No, you're fine. Cry, you daughters of rabba. Gird yourselves with satcloth.

[01:30:09] Lament and run to and fro by the walls. For Milcom shall go into captivity with his

[01:30:16] priests and his princes together. Why do you boast in the valleys? Your flowing valley,

[01:30:23] oh backsliding daughter who trusted in her treasure saying who will come against me?

[01:30:29] Behold I will bring fear upon you says the Lord God of hosts from all those who are around you.

[01:30:36] You shall be driven out everyone headlong and no one will gather those who wander off.

[01:30:43] But afterward I will bring back the captives of the people of Ammon of Ammon. Sorry. Yeah.

[01:30:49] Says the Lord. Okay. So he's bringing these people back too. Yeah. Okay. So that's the Ammonites.

[01:30:55] Now we're going to do Edom. Okay. All right. But real quick though, like he's bringing back some

[01:30:59] of the Ammonites, right? That he's only going to destroy some of them again. This feels very

[01:31:03] alike what he talks about with the Israelites. It seems to me and based on some of the

[01:31:08] stuff that we've learned about how the Israelites are essentially probably just Canaanites and

[01:31:15] like the surrounding tribes, yeah, just they broke off religiously from them. You know, so I feel

[01:31:22] like they could this be like a rallying cry to kind of like God still hates you but come on

[01:31:31] all the Canaanites? Right. We're all kind of somewhat related way back when or something.

[01:31:35] So like let's all join this group of people for God. I mean, God still hates you. Don't get me wrong

[01:31:41] but if you join us, we might forgive you in a few generations. A couple of you might live. Sure.

[01:31:46] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's the only way I could accept that this is from the same time period.

[01:31:52] Maybe but even at the words they're using even don't match with what we're used. Yeah.

[01:31:57] It's very weird. Like the sackcloth that was very not like I'm not saying that they still

[01:32:03] didn't use sackcloths but like the term and the way that they're using it in this this chapter

[01:32:08] feels more like some of the older books than it does this book. It feels very deuteronomy. Yeah.

[01:32:15] Yeah. They talked a lot about sackcloths and how to you know mourn and all this stuff

[01:32:20] back in those books. Yeah. It wasn't so much in Jeremiah as much. I'm not saying it wasn't

[01:32:24] there. Right. But the same terminology was not used this way. Yeah. In Jeremiah.

[01:32:29] Doesn't feel like it anyway. Right. To me. Yeah. All right. Moving on. Yeah. Sorry.

[01:32:34] Against Edom. Thus says the Lord of hosts is wisdom no more in Teimon. He has counsel

[01:32:42] perished from the prudent. Has their wisdom vanished? Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths.

[01:32:49] O inhabitants of Dayton for I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him. Esau huh. Yeah.

[01:32:57] Wow. This does very much seem like a deuteronomy kind of thing. Yeah. Like the time of Jacob and

[01:33:03] whatever. Right. The time that I will punish him if grape gatherers came to you would they not leave

[01:33:10] some gleaning grapes? If thieves by night would they not destroy until they have enough? But

[01:33:17] I have made Esau bare. I have uncovered his secret places. Oh, that's his wiener. Man.

[01:33:23] And he shall not be able to hide himself. We all gonna see his meaner.

[01:33:28] His descendants are plundered, his brethren and his neighbors and he is no more.

[01:33:34] Leave your fatherless children. I will preserve them alive and let your widows trust in me.

[01:33:41] For thus says the Lord, behold those whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have

[01:33:47] assuredly drunk and are you the one who will all together go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished.

[01:33:55] Of course not. I mean it's God. We couldn't let anybody go unpunished. Everybody gets punished.

[01:33:59] Yeah. But you shall surely drink of it for I have sworn by myself, you know,

[01:34:06] me damn it says the Lord. Yeah. That bosra shall become a desolation, a reproach,

[01:34:14] a waste and a curse. And all its city shall be perpetual wastes.

[01:34:20] Man, he loves to just destroy shit. It's like his favorite thing to do.

[01:34:26] I have heard a message from the Lord and an ambassador has been sent to the nations.

[01:34:32] Gather together, come against her and rise up to battle. For indeed I will make you small

[01:34:39] among nations despised among men. Your fierceness has deceived you, the pride of your heart.

[01:34:46] O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock who hold the height of the hill.

[01:34:53] Though you make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there says the Lord.

[01:35:00] Okay. Okay. Edom gets a long section. Oh really? Yeah. Like why are they so special? Right.

[01:35:07] Edom also shall be an astonishment. Everyone who goes by it will be astonished because you know,

[01:35:13] it's an astonishment. These almost sound verbatim to some similar words that he's used for Israel.

[01:35:18] Yeah. And I know that these people are all somewhat related-ish maybe sort of at some level

[01:35:26] and so I get it. Like maybe it's the same tales just being told differently in a different vein

[01:35:33] because it's coming from this other tribe but it's just so weird hearing this

[01:35:39] same thing for tribes that are not Israel. Yeah. And I'm kind of- this seems like a bad

[01:35:46] thing to have in the Bible. Yeah, I agree. Because it doesn't hold the story together very well.

[01:35:50] Right. It makes it very unreliable story. Yeah. Right. Like yeah, reliable in so far as historical

[01:36:01] text because yeah that tracks that all these different nations were there but as far as like

[01:36:07] how a god would behave or how goddess behaved up until now. Right. No. Or how the text itself has

[01:36:13] even read. Like this just doesn't fit anything. It really doesn't. Everyone who goes by it will

[01:36:19] be astonished and will hiss at all its plagues. Hiss. As in the overthrow of Saddam and Gomorrah-

[01:36:27] No, Sodom. Sodom. Sorry. Sodom and Gomorrah. Sorry. That was me. Sodom and Gomorrah and their

[01:36:34] neighbors says the Lord no one shall remain there nor shall a son of man dwell in it.

[01:36:40] Behold he shall come up like a lion from the flood plain of the Jordan against the

[01:36:45] dwelling place of the strong but I will suddenly make him run away from her and he who is a chosen

[01:36:52] man that I may appoint over her for who is like me? Who will arraign me and who is that shepherd who

[01:37:01] will wist me and me? I mean according to you nobody. Right. Yeah. So why are you asking?

[01:37:07] Right, yeah. It seems like a really dumb question. You're the biggest, you're the best,

[01:37:11] you're the tallest, you're the smartest, your farts smell the prettiest, blah blah blah. Right.

[01:37:15] Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that he has taken against Edom and his purposes that he

[01:37:23] has proposed against the inhabitants of Taiman. Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out.

[01:37:31] Surely he shall make their dwelling places desolate with them. The earth shakes at the

[01:37:37] noise of their fall, at the cry its noise is heard at the red sea. Behold he shall come up and fly like

[01:37:45] the eagle and spread his wings over Basra. God will? Okay. The heart of the mighty men of Edom

[01:37:53] in that day shall be like the heart of a woman in labor in birth pains. Okay now we're doing

[01:38:01] another section of people. I would say that a heart of a woman in birth pains as they say

[01:38:07] will be pretty fucking strong because that takes a lot of goddamn mental fortitude to make it through

[01:38:12] that and you know just like you gotta withstand this shit ton of pain so I would say that actually

[01:38:18] is a compliment as opposed to a disparaging remark. Yeah. But hey, you know whatever.

[01:38:26] I don't like this talk they're using. It's bullshit. It is bullshit because yeah,

[01:38:32] of birth pains are there's something. Yeah. They're right up there. Right. The God, let's see we can

[01:38:38] find a birth pain simulator for you. See how you fucking like it. Yeah, because every time I've seen

[01:38:45] any of those videos and the guys come up all smug they cannot withstand it and they usually only

[01:38:51] get them up to like one or two or three. Right, right. And they can't dial it up any further and

[01:38:57] it's like what's the highest one? Oh you know 10. Yeah, right. And they can't even handle a little

[01:39:02] bit of it. Right. So get the fuck out of here. Yeah. Okay. Against Damascus. Okay. Hamath and

[01:39:10] Arpad are shamed for they have heard bad news. They're faint hearted. There's

[01:39:17] trouble on the sea. It cannot be quiet. Damascus has grown feeble. Oh poor Damascus. Yeah, I hate it

[01:39:24] when I grow feeble. She turns to flee and fear has seized her. English and sorrows have taken her like

[01:39:31] a woman in labor. Why is the city of praise not deserted? The city of my joy. Therefore

[01:39:40] her young men shall fall in her streets and all the men of war shall be cut off in that day,

[01:39:45] says the Lord of Hosts. Are you not worshiping me the way I want you to? Then you will die. Right,

[01:39:50] that seems fair. Have fun with that. That's fair. Yeah. I love it. This is such a,

[01:39:57] I know we say this all the time, but like the idea that he doesn't get enough worship so you

[01:40:04] fucking die is such a petty bullshit way to manage your peons that are fucking just little

[01:40:13] ants to you. Yeah. Like what the, you're the guy, we were talking, we were at your parents' house

[01:40:19] tonight. We were talking about blowing up, you know, army men with M80s. This is like that. Yeah.

[01:40:25] He's blowing up army men with M80s only they're actual people with fucking thoughts and feelings.

[01:40:30] Yeah, when you said blowing up army guys, yeah, I'm talking about little plastic

[01:40:33] toys. The little plastic army toys. Yes, I apologize. Yeah. Right. Like, you know how

[01:40:39] children like in Toy Story toys, toys, toys. Sorry. Yeah, I apologize. But yeah, he's just,

[01:40:48] he's, he's burning ants with his magnifying glass. He's being said from Toy Story. Right. Yeah. It's

[01:40:54] just, I can't even respect this God that they talk about. No. It's just such crap. He's such

[01:41:00] an abusive cocksucker, honestly. Essentially. Yeah. Right. I will kindle a fire in the

[01:41:05] wall of Damascus and it shall consume the palaces of Ben Haddad. All right, now we're going to go

[01:41:12] to a different area. Okay. The poor Damascus they barely got away. Yeah, they apparently aren't

[01:41:17] coming back. They don't rate. Yeah. Okay. Against Qadar and against the kingdoms of Hazor,

[01:41:23] which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon shall strike. Oh, now we're back in the right

[01:41:29] time frame. I mean, these are remember out of chronological order. So this just happens

[01:41:34] to be one that is, oh, oh, here we are. Okay. You're with us. All right. Okay. Thus says the Lord,

[01:41:42] arise, go up to Qadar and devastate the men of the east. Their tents and their flocks they shall

[01:41:48] take away. They shall take for themselves their curtains all their vessels and their camels.

[01:41:54] Don't you take my camel? And they shall cry out to them fear is on every side.

[01:42:01] Flee get far away dwelling the depths so inhabitants of Hazor says the Lord for Nebuchadnezzar king

[01:42:09] of Babylon has taken counsel against you and has conceived a plan against you. Arise go up to the

[01:42:15] wealthy nation that dwells securely says the Lord, which is neither which has neither gates

[01:42:22] nor bars dwelling alone. Their camel shall be for booty.

[01:42:30] I think I love them booty camels booty cam. You know, they mean loot. I know, I know, but it's

[01:42:36] more fun to think of booty butt. Yes. When I used to babysit and change diapers, I would

[01:42:44] say booty, booty, but, but, and it just made the little guy laugh. Booty, booty, but, but,

[01:42:49] booty, booty, but, but again, again. Their camel shall be for booty, booty, but, but and the

[01:42:56] multiple of their cattle for plunder. I will scatter to all the winds those in the farthest

[01:43:02] corners and I will bring their calamity from all its size says the Lord Hazor shall be a dwelling

[01:43:09] for jackals a desolation forever no one shall reside there nor son of man dwell in it.

[01:43:16] Yeah, they nothing either. Right. This is like copy pasted from other sections.

[01:43:20] It's so boring. Honestly. Yeah, it's, it's dumb. Yeah. So now we're in a different

[01:43:27] section. Okay. See if they get any special, but like that one at least mentioned Nebuchadnezzar.

[01:43:31] Yeah. Right. So you like it for that reason? No, I don't like it, but at least I know it's

[01:43:36] not like copy pasted in here from like, you know, Moses's time from like 500 years ago,

[01:43:41] which is what a lot of these feel like. Like, and that one specifically, it feel, I don't know,

[01:43:47] I don't know what's going on here, but I'm very confused and not confused. I'm, I'm,

[01:43:54] I think that there's something not quite right with the wording with regard to throwing this in

[01:43:58] this book. That's all. I agree. I agree. All right. The word of the Lord that came to

[01:44:04] Jeremiah the prophet against Elam in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah, King of Judah.

[01:44:10] Okay. So we're more, more relevant here. Yeah. Thus says the Lord of hosts,

[01:44:15] behold I will break the bow of Elam, the foremost of their might.

[01:44:21] Okay. Against Elam I will bring the four winds from the four quarters of heaven and scatter

[01:44:28] them toward all those winds. There shall be no more nations where the outcasts of Elam will

[01:44:33] not go for I will cause Elam to be dismayed before their enemies and before those who seek

[01:44:40] their life. I mean, yes, if somebody was seeking my life, I would probably also be dismayed.

[01:44:46] Yeah. Just saying. Poor choice of words, I guess. Right. Yeah. I will bring mother

[01:44:51] fucking disaster upon them. My fierce fucking anger says the Lord. I just, I had a shock.

[01:44:59] I had to spice it up a little bit because like how many different times can you say, I'm so mad.

[01:45:05] Right. Right. And I will send the sword after them until I have consumed them. I will set my throne

[01:45:13] in Elam and we'll destroy them from there the king and the princess says the Lord, but

[01:45:19] it shall come to pass in the latter days. I will bring back the captives of Elam says the

[01:45:24] Lord. The end. There we go. There we go. So Elam gets to come back to. Elam gets to

[01:45:27] pass apparently not Damascus and not some other group there. Who cares? I could scroll back up.

[01:45:33] Yeah, I don't really care that much either. It's

[01:45:38] reminds me of King Henry the eighth, the way they describe his wives. It was like

[01:45:45] beheaded, beheaded died beheaded, beheaded survived. Right. Right. Like that's what

[01:45:51] this feels like. He's describing his little nations. Yeah. And most of which I didn't

[01:45:57] even know still existed. Right. So it's really weird. This is all really weird.

[01:46:04] And it's almost counterproductive for the narrative of the Bible in my opinion.

[01:46:11] Me too. Not working for them. It's like, but you guys said that God said that they were gone.

[01:46:17] Right. Yeah. And I would have believed you in so far as the story goes. Sure. Sure.

[01:46:21] Except then you brought this back and I'm like, oh, so God lied then? Right. Oh, okay.

[01:46:26] Again. Again. We've literally done a contradictions episode for every single book.

[01:46:31] Yeah, I cannot wait to do the contradictions episode for this chapter. I think it's going

[01:46:36] to be lengthy and I think it's going to be heavy. Yeah. I don't know that I have a lot

[01:46:41] else to add here. It's these books are kind of bullshit or these chapters are kind of bullshit

[01:46:48] in my opinion. Yep. I will be interested in the Q&A. Yeah. And I do want to hear these

[01:46:52] out just to hear what all, you know, so we get through it. You know, we got to read it all.

[01:46:56] We got to read it all. So yeah, that was Jeremiah chapter 49.

[01:47:02] Sure as fuck was. And tomorrow we will be back with...

[01:47:06] Jeremiah chapter 50. All right. We'll see you then. Bye.

[01:47:15] Husband. Wife.

[01:47:17] Do you know where the fuck we are and how the hell we got here?

[01:47:21] Well, we just got done reading Jeremiah chapter 49.

[01:47:24] Sure as fuck did.

[01:47:25] And we're still in those, the section where we're going over how God's going to treat all these

[01:47:31] other countries and stuff and places, I guess. And this last chapter, he was going over Amman

[01:47:40] and Edom, which Edom sounded a lot like the Israelites when we got to that one. Like he

[01:47:44] was going to redeem them and there's going to be like all these things that he talked very

[01:47:48] similarly to them as he does to the Israelites in the Bible.

[01:47:53] Sure.

[01:47:54] That was interesting. And then there was just a bunch of other places like Damascus and I don't

[01:47:58] remember exactly all the rest of them, but...

[01:48:00] Damascus.

[01:48:01] Came to places and things and places and stuff.

[01:48:05] I forget what the last one was the last one, Damascus?

[01:48:07] It was in it was one of the very last ones. Yeah, there was in like there was Babylon,

[01:48:12] I think and Elom and...

[01:48:13] But whatever the last one was, he was like, but you guys could have a remnant too.

[01:48:18] Right. Yeah.

[01:48:19] I think it was on what's it called Damascus?

[01:48:22] It might have been.

[01:48:23] Yeah, I could be wrong.

[01:48:24] But it's really just it's all very confusing and misplaced and bad.

[01:48:29] Written differently from the rest of the book.

[01:48:32] Yeah.

[01:48:32] Like what the F is happening?

[01:48:34] Right. So that was Jeremiah chapter 49.

[01:48:37] Sure as fuck was.

[01:48:38] And that means today we're getting into...

[01:48:41] Jeremiah chapter 50.

[01:48:43] All right, let's do this.

[01:48:44] Okie dokie.

[01:48:48] All right. So we are hopping into Jeremiah chapter 50 and a few notes before we actually get started.

[01:49:03] First of all, these few chapters that we're in are oracles to the other nations and they were kind

[01:49:11] of composed as a unit separate from the rest of the book of Jeremiah.

[01:49:19] And apparently they were their own separate unit.

[01:49:23] Ok.

[01:49:24] And they are not listed chronologically, but instead are listed geographically.

[01:49:32] And on top of that because of the way they are composed, I've not been doing notes

[01:49:41] as we read them.

[01:49:43] Right.

[01:49:43] Because they are all one unit.

[01:49:45] I'm waiting till we finish this unit to do a Q&A over kind of all of the...

[01:49:52] I kind of agreed it would be a bit overwhelming to do them in the midst of these chapters

[01:49:56] because there's just so misplaced.

[01:49:59] It's so...

[01:49:59] They're lengthy and weird.

[01:50:01] And yeah, so there's not going to be a Q&A on Saturday.

[01:50:06] Right.

[01:50:06] And in fact it might be a day off.

[01:50:09] Yeah, because chapter 51 will come on Monday and then we'll do the Q&A over all the nations,

[01:50:20] that whole unit.

[01:50:21] And then we'll do...

[01:50:23] That'll be on Tuesday I believe.

[01:50:26] And then on Wednesday we'll do our wrap up of the entire book of Jeremiah.

[01:50:33] Yep.

[01:50:33] And then Thursday we'll be doing our contradictions.

[01:50:36] That you're always wrong.

[01:50:38] Yeah, that's the...

[01:50:39] Because you're always wrong.

[01:50:42] Okay.

[01:50:43] Yeah.

[01:50:43] Okay.

[01:50:43] All right.

[01:50:44] And so I'm not sure what we're doing next Friday.

[01:50:46] Maybe nothing.

[01:50:47] We'll see when we get there.

[01:50:49] Yeah.

[01:50:49] I'm playing it by ear.

[01:50:50] Yeah.

[01:50:51] So just doing things a little bit differently and you know that's how we roll.

[01:50:56] We kind of play it by ear and we're kind of loosey-goosey and you know.

[01:51:00] Yeah.

[01:51:01] Yep.

[01:51:01] We're just reading this thing and kind of doing what we do.

[01:51:05] Right.

[01:51:05] Okay.

[01:51:06] So Jeremiah chapter 50.

[01:51:08] Okay.

[01:51:08] Okay.

[01:51:09] We're getting into Babylon now.

[01:51:10] Oh okay.

[01:51:11] Okay.

[01:51:11] All right.

[01:51:12] The word that the Lord spoke against Babylon and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet.

[01:51:19] Oh, okay.

[01:51:20] Okay.

[01:51:21] So I mean Jeremiah's kind of been missing as a reference in most of this book.

[01:51:26] It's like I'm sorry who?

[01:51:27] Right.

[01:51:27] Who said these?

[01:51:28] Who?

[01:51:30] Yeah.

[01:51:30] And let us also not forget the Chaldeans were a small tribe of a

[01:51:35] astronomer loving guys that got kind of swallowed by Babylon.

[01:51:42] Right, right.

[01:51:42] So in the book of Jeremiah the terms Chaldean and Babylonian are used interchangeably.

[01:51:48] Right.

[01:51:48] It's kind of like the Babylonians use the Chaldeans as a tool and then God was using the Babylonians

[01:51:54] as a tool so therefore it was like a chain of tools.

[01:51:57] It was like an MLM.

[01:51:59] It was like a pyramid scheme.

[01:52:01] Yeah.

[01:52:01] Right.

[01:52:02] Yeah.

[01:52:03] All right.

[01:52:03] Declare among the nations proclaim and set up a standard.

[01:52:08] Proclaim do not conceal it.

[01:52:11] Say Babylon is taken, bell is shamed, Meridoc is broken in pieces, her idols are humiliated,

[01:52:20] her images are broken in pieces.

[01:52:23] I mean this has got to be a prophecy, right?

[01:52:26] Because none of this shit has happened yet.

[01:52:29] And not in Jeremiah anyway.

[01:52:30] Correct.

[01:52:31] So yeah.

[01:52:33] Okay.

[01:52:34] I guess somebody's idols are getting smashed.

[01:52:37] Sure, I mean that's always happening in the Bible and the Old Testament because they don't

[01:52:40] like idols or whatever.

[01:52:42] Right.

[01:52:43] For out of the North a nation comes up against her which shall make her land desolate

[01:52:49] and no one shall dwell therein.

[01:52:52] They shall move, they shall depart both man and beast.

[01:52:57] In those days and in that time says the Lord, the children of Israel shall come.

[01:53:03] Yeah they will.

[01:53:04] They and the children of Judah together with continual weeping they shall come.

[01:53:12] Oh wait so this is the destruction of Israel not the destruction of Babylon.

[01:53:17] This is just talking about the Babylonian conqueror here.

[01:53:19] Oh you're right, you're right.

[01:53:20] It's concerning Babylon so I just took that to mean Babylon gon' get it.

[01:53:24] Right.

[01:53:25] But no, you're right.

[01:53:27] Okay.

[01:53:27] Sorry it turned me off I figured maybe we were talking about

[01:53:31] God getting his vengeance for Babylon or something.

[01:53:34] But no that's not it though.

[01:53:36] That's not it, he's hating on Israel again.

[01:53:38] Yeah.

[01:53:39] They shall ask the way to Zion with their faces toward it saying come and let us join ourselves

[01:53:46] to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that will not be forgotten.

[01:53:50] Is that what they're gonna do?

[01:53:51] Mm-hmm.

[01:53:52] Okay.

[01:53:53] My people have been lost sheep, their shepherds have led them astray.

[01:53:57] They have turned them away on the mountains.

[01:54:00] They have gone from mountain to hill.

[01:54:03] They have forgotten their resting place.

[01:54:06] I do feel like this was written in maybe the same time frame as Jeremiah was.

[01:54:12] Like the wording in this one does feel familiar.

[01:54:15] Yeah.

[01:54:15] So.

[01:54:16] Yeah not only that but I like that God is like oh my people were led astray

[01:54:23] but I hate them anyways.

[01:54:24] Right.

[01:54:25] Right.

[01:54:25] Yeah.

[01:54:26] He's like I totally admit that you had shitty leaders

[01:54:29] but I'm still gonna hold you responsible for that.

[01:54:32] Yeah it's like the boss that never tells you how to do anything with them they still

[01:54:36] yell at you over shits you're doing wrong.

[01:54:37] Yeah yeah.

[01:54:38] So.

[01:54:39] All who found them have devoured them and their adversary said we have not offended

[01:54:46] because they have sinned against the Lord.

[01:54:49] The habitation of justice, the Lord, the hope of their fathers.

[01:54:54] That's what conquerors do right?

[01:54:56] They come in and they're like your God doesn't like you so we haven't done anything wrong.

[01:55:00] Yeah it's not our fault you suck.

[01:55:01] Yeah right.

[01:55:04] Move from the midst of Babylon go out of the land of the Chaldeans and be like the

[01:55:10] Rams before the flocks for behold.

[01:55:13] Okay.

[01:55:14] I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great nations from the North country.

[01:55:22] Oh so now Babylon is getting there.

[01:55:24] Okay.

[01:55:25] Come up and.

[01:55:25] There we go.

[01:55:26] Yeah.

[01:55:26] And they shall array themselves against her from there she shall be captured.

[01:55:32] What wasn't Babylon from the North also?

[01:55:34] Like they kept coming from the North these these must be further from the North.

[01:55:38] I guess.

[01:55:39] Or maybe like part of the Babylonians left and took over this area and then the rest of

[01:55:43] the Babylonians were like they're not doing the best job down there let's go take them over.

[01:55:47] Sure.

[01:55:47] So maybe it was like the Babylonians fighting the Babylonians.

[01:55:49] I get I couldn't tell you.

[01:55:51] Yeah somebody from the North though.

[01:55:52] Sure.

[01:55:53] Yeah Santa Claus maybe.

[01:55:55] That's a bit too North.

[01:55:57] Their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior none shall return in vain

[01:56:03] and Chaldea shall become plunder all who plunder her shall be satisfied says the Lord

[01:56:10] because you were glad because you rejoiced you destroyers of my heritage because you have

[01:56:16] grown fat like a heifer threshing grain and you bellow like bulls your mother shall be deeply

[01:56:25] ashamed I am always ashamed when my child bellows like a bull yeah no she who bore you shall be

[01:56:33] ashamed behold the least of the nation shall be a wilderness a dry land and a desert okay

[01:56:43] because of the wrath of the Lord she shall not be inhabited but she shall be holy desolate

[01:56:50] everyone who goes by Babylon shall be horrified and hiss at all her plays I don't think he's

[01:56:56] gonna leave anywhere untouched like it feels like the whole world just gonna be you know of

[01:57:01] shameful and and barren and desolate just in the Middle East I guess yeah put yourselves in array

[01:57:09] against Babylon all around all you who bend the bow shoot at her spare no arrows for she has sinned

[01:57:17] against the Lord shout against her all around she has given her hand her foundations have fallen

[01:57:25] her walls are thrown down for it is the vengeance of the Lord

[01:57:31] I mean it's God in the Bible used the Babylonians as a tool to do his bidding according to the Bible

[01:57:44] to destroy his people the Israelites who he was pissed off at and now he's like how

[01:57:49] dare you destroy my right no I mean like it's kind of bullshit like not kind of bullshit

[01:57:56] straight up yeah yeah yeah take vengeance on her as she has done so due to her damn okay cut off the

[01:58:06] sower from Babylon and him who handles the sickle at harvest time for fear of the oppressing sword

[01:58:14] everyone shall turn to his own people and everyone shall flee to his own land

[01:58:21] Israel is like scattered sheep the lions have driven him away first the king of Assyria devoured

[01:58:29] him now at last this nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones yeah and it seems like

[01:58:37] every time they get quote unquote devoured God's like you're gonna come back stronger than ever

[01:58:42] yeah don't worry and then they never do right like okay right they suck more all the time

[01:58:48] therefore thus says the lord of hosts the god of Israel behold I will punish the king of Babylon

[01:58:55] and his land as I have punished the king of Assyria but I will bring back Israel to his home

[01:59:03] and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan his soul shall be satisfied on Mount Ephraim and Gilead

[01:59:12] and those days and in that time says the lord the iniquity of Israel shall be sought but there

[01:59:20] shall be none and the sins of Judah but they shall not be found for I will pardon those who

[01:59:27] might preserve that's lucky that's nice yeah go up against the land of Marathaeum against it

[01:59:35] and against the inhabitants of Pekod waste and utterly destroy them says the lord

[01:59:43] okay and do according to all that I have commanded you a sound of battle is in the land and of great

[01:59:49] destruction how the hammer of the whole earth has been cut apart and broken how Babylon has

[01:59:57] become a desolation among the nations I have laid a snare for you you have indeed been trapped oh

[02:00:06] Babylon and you were not aware you have been found and also caught because you have contended against

[02:00:15] the lord no they did exactly what he wanted them to do but he used them yeah they allowed themselves

[02:00:23] do you ever you ever think like the stuff that we're reading is just like it's purely like

[02:00:27] propaganda well yeah right like I mean there's no TV that you can't share news articles right so

[02:00:33] like this is just like if they get they send these messages off to their their foes they're like

[02:00:39] our god's going to destroy you you know and maybe since people believe in gods back then

[02:00:45] maybe that's a thing that people you know got scared about or whatever you know or or made them

[02:00:51] think twice at the very rep release like well maybe we shouldn't do it because I was going I don't know

[02:00:57] they do say their god is big right right he does have helichases just in case maybe we shouldn't

[02:01:04] attack you know heard about his stinky breath right yeah the lord has opened his armory and has

[02:01:09] brought out the weapons of his indignation for this is the work of the lord god of hosts

[02:01:16] in the land of the chaudians come against her from the farthest border open her storehouses

[02:01:23] cast her up as heaps of ruins and destroy her utterly let nothing of her be left

[02:01:31] slay all her bulls let them go down to the slaughter whoa to them for their day has come

[02:01:42] the time of their punishment seems very wasteful to just destroy all of their livestock yeah why

[02:01:48] why do the animals just because you have take joy in destroying things right that's what it feels

[02:01:53] like it's not nice no I like animals let's just let them right yeah the voice of those who flee and

[02:02:00] escape from the land of Babylon declares in Zion the vengeance of the lord our god the

[02:02:07] vengeance of his temple call together the archers against Babylon all you who bend the bow

[02:02:15] oh that's what I said no in camp against it all around let none of them escape

[02:02:23] repay her according to her work according to all she has done due to her for she has been proud

[02:02:31] against the lord against the holy one of Israel therefore her young man men not just one man all

[02:02:41] the men right the young ones yeah shall fall in the streets and all her men of war shall be cut off

[02:02:47] in that day says the lord behold I'm against you oh most haughty ones says the lord god of hosts

[02:02:56] but you have to interrupt here for just a second yeah because I have to stay I have to say this

[02:03:00] because it's an ongoing thing with us this is completely off subject okay our fucking cat

[02:03:07] our fucking cat oh my god she will we literally no matter how long we put it off the second that

[02:03:15] we hit record that's when she'll go to the litter box and she's not yeah forever and ever

[02:03:21] even though she's not done anything no and so we're trying to like block the sound and then

[02:03:25] she goes over and meows real loud and tries to get into all the cabinets merely because

[02:03:31] we're doing our podcast yeah it's like a ritual yeah like and it never happens unless we're doing

[02:03:36] our podcast seriously it's the only time right so annoying okay sorry anyway I had to throw

[02:03:43] that out there because I just had to go deal with it because we have to open up a cabinet

[02:03:47] so that she doesn't get in this other thing and no yeah whatever we have to allow her

[02:03:53] one thing to let her think that she's one yeah in order to keep her from the other things right

[02:03:59] right it's so stupid she has love we love her though well yeah obviously that's why we that's

[02:04:05] why we do it yeah yeah all right anyway god is going off and he's like everything sucks and you

[02:04:11] suck and I'm a getcha yeah yeah for your day has come the time that I will punish you

[02:04:19] yeah the most proud shall stumble and fall and no one will raise him up I will kindle a fire in

[02:04:27] his cities and it will devour all around him boring I'm what it is it is like how often do we have

[02:04:36] to hear this same rhetoric die die die death death death I will pound you da da da da I remember

[02:04:43] early on when we started first started reading about all this death and destruction and and

[02:04:47] vengeance that God was was taking upon other people right and it used to like be a little bit

[02:04:54] disturbing how disturbing it was right right it used to be a little bit shocking used to be

[02:05:00] a little bit oh I didn't really God was so like just what's the word like he's so violent violent and

[02:05:09] petty and mean and but it's almost numbing at this point how crappy this god is he's like never kind

[02:05:22] no and if he if he does a nice thing it's never out of kindness it's always like there will be

[02:05:27] strings attached right right I do expect you to suck my dick for the ages well and he loves to create

[02:05:34] like we had all these covenants way back when too where we make these like you know multi-generational

[02:05:39] deals with God right that we're expected to hold our end of the bargain up for all time yeah and and

[02:05:46] God meanwhile sees us fuck up once and he's like yeah fuck you yeah and I'm going to hold 10

[02:05:53] generations responsible and then you can maybe get back in my good graces but only briefly because

[02:05:57] then I'll probably want to kill you again soon after that so right right it's just it's so he's

[02:06:03] so mean and short sighted and just small and petty not a very good God not a very good God

[02:06:09] honest with you yeah I think this god has no leadership skills none honestly none whatsoever

[02:06:15] um some of your shitty bosses have had better leadership skills yeah that makes me laugh

[02:06:21] because they were not good right yeah so that's not a compliment to God

[02:06:28] thus says the lord of hosts the children of israel were oppressed along with the children of Judah

[02:06:35] all who took them captive have held them fast they have refused to let them go that is what the

[02:06:41] word captive means I'm glad god knows this right yeah their redeemer is strong the lord of hosts

[02:06:49] is his name did you in case we forgot it's like God's walking around going hey hey have you heard

[02:06:56] about this really cool guy his name is God he's so cool have you heard about him you oh oh it's me

[02:07:02] and you would think that if he was as powerful a being as he claims he is there will be no need

[02:07:07] to mention your name as often as he does to start a sentence you know like every fucking sentence

[02:07:12] he starts me the lord of hosts the god of gods whatever the fuck I am you know I'm the best

[02:07:18] in the best best like okay dude we get it yes you have a big day

[02:07:23] the winner he will thoroughly plead their case he being me because I'm awesome yeah that he may give

[02:07:29] rest to the land and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon now keep in mind we did say Jeremiah's

[02:07:36] name at the beginning of this chapter so it could be Jeremiah relaying this message here so okay

[02:07:40] I'm just saying you know I'm trying to give some credit to you know the possible

[02:07:45] way that is being said the whole thing is stupid and I hate it I know that's all yeah a sword is

[02:07:51] against the Chaldean says the lord against the inhabitants of Babylon and against her princes

[02:07:56] and her wise men a sword is against the soothsayers and they will be fools a sword is against

[02:08:03] her mighty men and they will be dismayed okay a sword is against their horses against their

[02:08:09] chariots and against all the mixed peoples who are in her midst they will become like women oh my god

[02:08:18] you know how women be you don't want to be like women cool a sword is against her treasures and

[02:08:25] they will be robbed oh no okay a drought is against her waters and they will be dried up because

[02:08:35] that's what drought means right for it is the land of carved images and they are insane with their

[02:08:42] idols it sounds like you are insane with jealousy yeah yeah therefore the wild desert beast shall

[02:08:50] dwell there with the jackals and the ostriches shall dwell in it who ostriches I didn't think

[02:08:56] that's the first time I mentioned them yeah I didn't even know that was a Bible creature right

[02:08:59] yeah we should we should keep track like a tally of all the different animals they mentioned

[02:09:03] right yeah I kind of I know there's some weird ones that are still coming up so I kind of like

[02:09:08] the ostrich because their legs are stupid right yeah it shall be inhabited no more forever nor

[02:09:15] shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation I think people live there yeah yeah as God over

[02:09:22] through Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighbors says the Lord member that land I do we just

[02:09:28] talked about it again yeah I mispronounced it yes Sodom instead of Sodom so no one shall reside

[02:09:37] there nor son of man dwell in it behold a people shall come from the north and a great nation and

[02:09:43] many kings shall be raised up from the ends of the earth they shall hold hold hold hold they shall

[02:09:52] hold the bow or bow yes the bow the bow they shall hold I'm having a dyslexia or something moment

[02:10:03] where I'm like what is word shoot a bow a ship has a bow okay I I'm just you know I know I don't

[02:10:11] know how to help you with that one but also a tree has a bow and when the break the baby falls down

[02:10:17] which I never understood that song why would you put a baby in a tree because it's it's

[02:10:21] like the original um you know how they have those machines that rock your baby for you you know

[02:10:27] if you find the right branch and the winds blowing just right you could have like a it's

[02:10:30] like a rocking machine only like natural you know I'm gonna say no I would never put my baby in a

[02:10:36] tree but you never had to live 2000 years ago I would not put my baby in a tree I'm just saying

[02:10:40] you can't know until you're in that place in that time you just don't know how things are back

[02:10:45] then and how the world is and how things happen so okay you're right I probably would

[02:10:51] put my baby in a tree and the bow would probably break right baby probably would fall cradle and all

[02:10:58] yeah that's probably what happened anyway they shall hold the bow I mean they did write a whole song

[02:11:04] about it so they did you know I'm just you know so it had to have been a thing and the lance

[02:11:10] yeah the bow and like kind of like that's where I god's real because they wrote a whole book about

[02:11:14] them right therefore they are cruel and shall not show mercy their voice shall roar like the sea

[02:11:23] they shall ride on horses these rat these random northern people that are gonna take over things

[02:11:29] from that okay set in array like a man for the battle against you oh daughter of Babylon

[02:11:36] fucking Babylon right the king of Babylon has heard the report about them and his hands grow

[02:11:44] look at those feeble hands kind of like trump hands you don't want feeble trump hands right

[02:11:49] right anguish has taken hold of him pangs as of as of a woman in labor a childbirth yes childbirth

[02:11:57] sorry yeah yes that is they use them interchangeably right so you never know which one they're

[02:12:01] gonna say yeah but yes that woman mm-hmm behold he shall come up like a lion from the blood

[02:12:08] plain flood flood plain blood plain holy shit sorry I'm having a hard time with words all the letters

[02:12:17] we have to start writing out your words phonetically for you or something stop you're being so mean I

[02:12:24] still read better than you do oh yeah no I I mean I can't I can't read out loud very well at all

[02:12:30] no you cannot I can read just fine no yeah you know out loud as a whole other thing it's a whole

[02:12:37] different barrel if you dig deep enough you can find an instance of that in our podcast mm-hmm I'm not

[02:12:43] even gonna give any other hints to that but it does exist it wasn't that long ago it was it was a few

[02:12:48] years ago oh okay yeah but it was terrible it was bad it was all right but we left it up because

[02:12:54] you know that's how we do things that's how we do yeah yeah we leave the bad up with the good

[02:12:59] yeah so that you see us for all of our sucky and authenticity and mostly just mediocre

[02:13:05] you know right on through yeah mostly mediocre like we do mediocre real fucking well we're like

[02:13:10] the best mediocre fuckers on the planet what's a mediocre fucker I don't us apparently I don't know

[02:13:19] beholdy shall come up like a lion from the flood plain of the Jordan against the dwelling place

[02:13:26] of the strong but I will make them suddenly run away from her and who is a chosen man that I may

[02:13:32] appoint over her for who is like me uh-huh who's like me I don't know who will arraign me I don't know

[02:13:41] I mean who could arraign God right right and who was that shepherd who will withstand me

[02:13:48] I'm best I'm awesome he's always alluded to like the line of David so I'm assuming that we're

[02:13:53] gonna get back to that at some point probably it's just like what you're gonna do about it

[02:13:57] who's gonna stop me right I'm the biggest bad is badass yeah therefore here are the counsel of the Lord

[02:14:05] that he has taken against Babylon and his purposes that he has proposed against the land of the

[02:14:12] Chaudians surely the least of the flock shall draw them out surely he will make their dwelling

[02:14:20] place desolate with them don't call me surely at the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth trembles

[02:14:30] and the cry is heard among the nations the end okay all right you heard it here for some random

[02:14:36] northern tribe is gonna is gonna take over Babylon at some point probably 70 years down the road

[02:14:42] because that's what they told us earlier is that it's going to be 70 years of captivity

[02:14:45] at least so it's gonna be a while but that's that's apparently gonna happen I mean according to the

[02:14:51] Bible did it happen I have no idea I have no idea and you know what furthermore I don't really give

[02:14:57] a shit no either if it did happen like it's saying it happened I almost have to believe

[02:15:05] that this was like written post right that happening because whatever it's just this

[02:15:12] this whole thing's silly it's so silly yeah it just strikes me as why are we doing this again

[02:15:21] you know what I we started off Jeremiah with hope like it started off with some good there was some

[02:15:27] good story you know yeah it was a good story and then it just kept repeating itself and

[02:15:31] repeating itself and then they tacked on these like 10 chapters at the end that are just trash

[02:15:37] just utter trash I mean this they're back you know what this chapter as much as it sucks is

[02:15:42] or this book I should say yeah as much as it sucks it's still better than Isaiah was yeah

[02:15:48] and that's saying something because Isaiah really sucks it's definitely losing some uh

[02:15:52] some traction for me here in this last bit yeah so like I'm not not feeling this at all yeah

[02:15:59] you came in like a lion and went out like a lamb yeah that right how they do that right

[02:16:06] yeah you come in you know I mean go either way so March either comes in with like a lion and out

[02:16:12] like a lamb or in like a lamb and out like a lion oh it's both ways yeah if it comes in the one way

[02:16:17] it's going to go out the other way oh yeah I did not know that right I thought it was interchangeable

[02:16:23] I didn't know that it is yeah that's interesting okay so anyway that was Jeremiah chapter 50

[02:16:31] sure as fuck was which this week is a little weird because we won't be back tomorrow right and

[02:16:39] then we will probably be back on Sunday with a Patreon right and then on Monday we will be

[02:16:47] back with Jeremiah chapter 51 and then after that we already talked about it earlier in the

[02:16:52] podcast but we're going to wrap up all of our slew of the end of Jeremiah shit so that will all be

[02:16:58] happening the rest of next week the slew of shit yes yes from your mediocre podcasters yeah

[02:17:05] that's a goddamn mediocre but we love you you guys are above mediocre fans in fact you're

[02:17:12] excellent that is true excellent that is true because you listen to us be mediocre and for

[02:17:18] some reason you enjoy it question mark we certainly enjoy being here that is true we're

[02:17:23] just happy that anybody else enjoys being here with us that is true so thanks for joining us

[02:17:27] that we will be back on Sunday if you're a patron and if you're not you can go sign up for free for

[02:17:38] able to catch this week's patreon as part of your trial membership and I think we were considering

[02:17:44] I don't this isn't written in stone but I think we were considering talking about all the war stuff

[02:17:50] that's happening with possibly that's one of the things that we're tossing around at the moment

[02:17:55] so Israel like we just had newsbreak tonight so like if anybody doesn't know Israel did

[02:18:04] strike back so I don't know what tomorrow brings we're released we're recording this on

[02:18:11] Thursday night which is when it happened and we're talking about what are we gonna do on Sunday

[02:18:18] right yeah so who knows where the world is at this moment when you're listening to it so

[02:18:22] we hope everything is well still yes indeed we do but anyway that being said this was Jeremiah

[02:18:30] chapter 50 and we are done for today we are have a good weekend guys have a great weekend bye

[02:18:43] husband wife guess what we're doing today well it is Sunday which uh this week means we're doing our

[02:18:52] patreon that's right and what are we going over today in our patreon episode I thought we

[02:18:58] would talk about TST TST the satanic temple okay all right um so for those of you who are listening

[02:19:17] signed up for a free trial before you can hop over to our patreon at patreon.com forward slash

[02:19:38] stuff with free members and we also update when we're not going to be doing stuff sometimes

[02:19:42] when we are inclined or sick but we do we do share stuff you know for even our free members

[02:19:49] so it's worth going over and signing up again that's patreon.com forward slash sacrilegious discourse

[02:19:55] that being said are you ready to hop into this episode sure as fuck I am all right let's do this

[02:20:11] all right so the satanic temple huh all right yeah yeah satan who doesn't love satan

[02:20:16] I mean hell satan actually um that's exactly not what they're about I know I know and um if you

[02:20:24] go to their website um you can find that the tagline for them is empathy reason advocacy yeah

[02:20:33] I mean that just right there I'm turned on I mean to be fair even in the bible satan not really

[02:20:40] a real thing and honestly god does way more fucking damage than whatever they consider satan to be

[02:20:45] so I mean I even if you're looking at it from a biblical perspective right satan to me is better

[02:20:50] than than god is in the bible so from just I'm gonna read through some stuff here but just from what I

[02:20:57] gleaned um they use the term satan more to represent somebody who fights against um authoritarianism

[02:21:08] and like blind following sure and who better who better represents that than the image of satan

[02:21:16] right yeah so definitely um I I approve this message also it riles people up so oh sure

[02:21:24] sure it does I mean that's part of the the shtick you know is to be satirical and tongue

[02:21:29] in cheek at the same time that you're actually forwarding a positive message right yeah so

[02:21:34] again I approve this message yeah yeah so the satanic temple is referred to um as tst right um

[02:21:43] that's their their logo kind of thing yeah yeah and it's a non theistic meaning non religious

[02:21:51] organization but it's also referred to as a quote new religious movement and I had to look up

[02:21:57] what that means because it was used several times as an actual entity so what is a new religious

[02:22:05] movement yeah what is that um it's also known as an alternative spirituality or a new religion

[02:22:12] and it's a religious or spiritual group that has modern origins and is peripheral to its society's

[02:22:20] dominant religious culture so it's almost a movement against whatever the predominant

[02:22:28] got it culture religion is which in our case is christianity right right so it's a non-religion

[02:22:36] religion against religion yeah if that makes sense sure yeah so I I thought that was a kind of

[02:22:43] interesting take on a group that proclaims to be non-religious yeah um it's headquartered in

[02:22:50] Salem massachusetts which is perfect I know what actually there's some recent news I don't know if

[02:22:55] you're going to get into it about that but did you did you hear about the recent news that happened

[02:22:59] there uh wasn't there a bomb thread on there was a bomb I think yeah blew himself up or something

[02:23:05] there was a bomb I I I didn't know that you hadn't looked into it but I mean there was a bomb

[02:23:10] or something like that for sure at the headquarters I'm pretty sure it went off actually because

[02:23:15] I think there's damage and stuff like that but it was when they were closed so no one was actually

[02:23:20] hurt that I'm aware of but um but yeah that was that was kind of scary that's not the first time

[02:23:26] something like that has happened which I'll get into those things but no I did not um get into

[02:23:31] that one specifically right so oopsie that's right that's right so maybe maybe we'll do a ps

[02:23:39] come back and add that at the end or probably not though all right I mean it

[02:23:43] oh no what happened well this is a special patreon episode actually

[02:23:53] which means that they need to go to patreon and subscribe as a patron in order to listen to it
