[00:00:00] Hey everyone, husband here.
[00:00:05] And I'm wife.
[00:00:06] If you've been listening to us, then you know we're all about reading the Bible and
[00:00:10] reacting to it on our first read-through.
[00:00:12] Cuss words, crying, laughing, and more.
[00:00:14] We're passionate about creating a podcast that takes the sanctity out of the sacred
[00:00:17] text and simply stating it as we see it.
[00:00:19] But we can't do it without your help.
[00:00:21] We're asking for your support to help us keep this podcast going.
[00:00:24] There are two ways you can donate. we're reading the Bible for the very first time. We grew up without religion and wanted to know what all the fuss was about. Well, what have we learned so far? That God is a dick and apparently some people believe in talking donkeys? We're not trying to pass ourselves off as experts. Nope, we're just reading the Bible for the first time and giving our first take reaction. If you'd like to join us in this venture, you might consider starting in episode 1.
[00:01:42] Otherwise, jump in wherever you like.
[00:01:44] Alright, let's go read the Bible.
[00:01:46] Yeah, let's gonna make this up We haven't done a book club and freakin ever right so we'll probably do like a double duty or something this weekend or
[00:03:02] Some we always have high hopes, but we're gonna try real fucking hard. Yes. Okay. Yes
[00:04:04] Okay, so we are getting into Jeremiah chapter six. Okay.
[00:04:05] Please for safety people of Benjamin.
[00:04:07] Oh my God.
[00:04:08] Please from Jerusalem.
[00:04:10] Okay.
[00:04:11] Okay.
[00:04:12] Sound the trumpet into color.
[00:04:15] Raise the signal over Beth Hakerum for disaster looms out of the north.
[00:04:20] Even terrible destruction.
[00:04:22] Man, these are just God sending those people, huh?
[00:04:25] I'm going to attack at noon or during the dark of night. Okay. I just double check. You got it. I had this so far. I believe you have that's the way I understand. Okay. All right. But whatever. Violence and destruction resound in her. Her sickness and wounds are ever before me. Take warning, Jerusalem, or I will turn away from you and make your land desolate so no one can live in it. You are literally sending people against us.
[00:07:02] I know.
[00:07:02] And you're like, but fear me, worship me,
[00:07:06] or else I'll make it worse.
[00:07:08] Yeah. people apparently according to whatever like there wasn't this isn't as black and white as they're trying to lay this out as yeah you know and and there were people listening he's obviously being he's they're quote they're saying they're writing down God's words this this is God's word right and and so it it doesn't
[00:08:23] really ring true to me like the way that closed so they cannot hear the word of the Lord is offensive to them. They will find no pleasure in it. But I am full of the wrath of the Lord and I cannot hold not serious. Peace, peace, they say, when there is no peace. Are they ashamed of their detestable conduct? There's no peace because God keeps sending people after them. Right? I mean, how the fuck can he say there is no peace when he's the one causing the no peace?
[00:11:01] Um, because...
[00:11:02] That's bullshit.
[00:11:03] Because God is a paradox.
[00:11:05] Yeah, right.
[00:11:06] He's more than that.
[00:11:07] Right.
[00:11:08] He's something. Nobody walking the walk with regard to God. So the people that are supposed to be leading These people in the correct ways aren't doing that correctly in fact. They're probably Training them to not be correctly worshiping God So how in the fuck is someone who can't even read the Bible or even receive the message because there's no correct
[00:12:23] Prophets out there, right? How are they supposed to know to mean that these people have no chance to know God, and yet He's punishing them anyway. Yeah. And that's bullshit. It's absolutely crap. Yeah. God's a dick. Yeah. And so God says, but you said we will not listen.
[00:13:40] Yeah.
[00:13:41] Right.
[00:13:42] That is what they said apparently.
[00:13:43] Okay.
[00:13:44] So God's still talking. Oh, God. Yes. Yes. They are armed with bow and spear. They are cruel and show no mercy. Kind of like God. Yeah. They sound like the roaring sea as they ride on their horses. They come like men in battle formation to attack you, daughter of Zion. The men in battle formation that are coming to attack you come in battle formation. Yes. That's crazy. I
[00:15:01] know, right? Weird how that happens. Yeah. are not purged out. They are called rejected silver because the Lord has rejected them at the end. So even with all this killing that God's doing, he's saying that he can't
[00:16:21] get all of them that are bad. Right. If you want people to respect you, worship you, know you, love you, you are going about this hell we are. Well honestly we so we did Jeremiah chapter 6 and so far Jeremiah has been a very bad thing for the Israelites. He's pretty dark. And God is apparently sending someone from the north to kill lots of the Israelites. Take them down. Yeah and because they're not even if they sacrifice stuff they're not
[00:19:02] doing it right and he can't he can't fix everything and it's just. God can't be wrong. Right? Yeah, he can't be wrong or bad. Yeah. So there's a reason for it, right? Yeah. And we brought it on ourselves. Obviously, we deserve this. It's too bad that people that died can't speak. Right? Because I think they might have a different story. I came on a second. I'm just saying like it's always wonderful for the people that survived to be able to say, yeah,
[00:20:23] those people were trash. We're okay. They in Jeremiah. Yeah. And I was saying that earlier today, I wrote the year 2023 instead of 24. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I don't. I don't transition very well. All right. Jeremiah chapter seven. All right. All right. This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord.
[00:22:43] I could see some, like, I would have to be really fucking bad. Really fucking bad.
[00:22:44] But like, I don't feel like what they are doing wrong necessarily justifies dying.
[00:22:50] Yes, a no.
[00:22:51] Like from the notes, they're doing a lot of child sacrifice.
[00:22:54] Yeah, okay.
[00:22:55] But the things he's complaining about in the Bible are that they're sacrificing things
[00:22:59] wrong and not with their full heart towards Yahweh.
[00:23:03] Right.
[00:23:04] And he's complaining about the fact that they aren't fearful of Yahweh. is correct or not. Yeah. But no, it's nothing to do with correctness. It has to do with how much you have to beg and plead and love and fear this God. That's all it is. He's like saying, worship me, fear me, bend on me and kiss the ring and also stop worshiping other gods and killing children. And honestly, when you read this stuff and you tell me that these apologists
[00:24:22] are saying that they were like, okay, apologists, yes. They are bending all the truths and looking for reasons. The historian scholars and academics, they are not.
[00:25:41] They are telling you, these are the things
[00:25:42] that were happening at that time
[00:25:44] that you're not gonna find in the Bible.
[00:25:46] Correct, yeah.
[00:25:47] No, I'm not temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord. Okay. Lord, Lord, Lord. If you really change your ways and your actions and deal
[00:27:03] with each other justly, if you do all these detestable things. Has this house, which bears my name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching declares the Lord. So also something that's interesting, den of robbers
[00:28:21] is a phrase that we will hear again in the New Testament.
[00:28:24] Oh, okay.
[00:28:25] Just letting you know.
[00:28:26] All right, well, I mean, from my understanding, as I did all your fellow Israelites, the people of Ytram. So you saw what I did over there. I'm about to happen to you here. Yep. Yeah. Unless you all get in line real quick. And you're about out of time. Right. Yeah. So do not pray for this people, nor offer any plea or petition for them. Do not killing their children for sacrifices. They were giving up food that they maybe couldn't afford to give up for sacrifices. They were doing things that did harm them, but that includes for Yahweh. Yeah. Like not they weren't sacrificing children for Yahweh, but they were giving up food.
[00:31:00] They were.
[00:31:01] They came close if you take.
[00:31:02] Yeah.
[00:31:03] They come close.
[00:31:04] Yeah.
[00:31:05] Jacob and Isaac.
[00:31:06] Right.
[00:31:07] Right. ever having to stay living at home. So we're talking about 20 and 30 year olds that are still living at home with their parents because they can't afford to buy a house much less do things, go on vacation and stuff. So yeah, it is a recession
[00:32:20] even if it's not been declared such.
[00:32:22] Sure.
[00:32:24] So anyway, therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel says, go ahead, add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves for when I brought your ancestors out of Egypt and spoke to them. I did not just give them
[00:33:42] commands about burnt offerings and sacrifices, but I gave them this command. Oh, baby. And you inspire people to want to be part of what you are doing, right? That's the best way to manage in my opinion. Of course. But then there's micromanagement. There's more than two ways. But I mean, these are the two I'm talking about. But the micromanagement just loses the over. You don't have that inspiration. You don't have that, that, that
[00:35:00] behind that message that the, the manager is trying to convey, you're just literally following
[00:35:04] a fucking list of things to do. And you're like, you know it like if I ask questions and you explain oh well I could see why you would think this but in the bigger picture, you know, it harms x y and z
[00:36:22] Right and blah blah blah then, might I might allow you I might say you have good in you even though you're a piece of shit
[00:37:41] That was more an evil. Yeah I'm like, the fact that you have to ask that is horrifying, but okay, let's play that game. Okay. You say that I can't have morals. Okay. So therefore then I will rely purely on science. Well, science indicates that if we murder each other, that is not good for the quote unquote
[00:39:07] tribe in the long run.
[00:39:08] You know? Right and that is their own moral compass and look that's awful right as far as what i am concerned and you are concerned and probably most of our listeners are concerned i hope. I definitely hope that most of you agree that murdering people really is totally evil bad and wrong but even that is still based on your emotional response to how to react to that question of good versus evil right it doesn't have anything to do with.
[00:41:27] fine. Here's why. There's a logical reason not to on top of your stupid, whiny baby. God said not to. But the truth is even when they're telling you that they have a basis for their morality,
[00:41:32] there is it's based on their idea of what God is and their feelings about what God is. It has
[00:41:38] nothing to do with any facts. There are no are higher up in their churches and what have you.
[00:43:01] And they are failing hardcore.
[00:43:03] Like actively.
[00:43:04] Yeah, actively. our betting thing bet with us bet with us and then at the end it's always have a betting problem and it's like you're literally trying to talk people with betting problems into betting and then telling them that there is help for their betting problem at the end kill everybody because you started the top guy. Your guys that were in charge of delivering your message failed. Right. So, so shoot the messenger. Right. Yeah. Yeah. When you tell them all this, they will not listen to you.
[00:45:42] When you call to them, they will not answer.
[00:45:44] Therefore say to them, this is the nation that has not obeyed the Lord. Yes, we know. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my name and have to file it. The idols are in the temple. Wow. That's brazen. That'scrows. Right. You don't want to walk through a valley of shadow of death of piles of bodies. Right. And erect a scarecrow. Yeah. Yeah. I will bring an end to the sounds of joy and gladness and to the voices of bride and
[00:48:23] bridegroom in the towns of Judah like the end of the world profits. Like they're like, they flocked to them. They're like, oh yeah, the end of the world, that's awesome. Like what, wait, why, why, why is that fucking awesome? Cause they believe in the, whatever the.
[00:49:40] The world to come, the apocalypse and the thing
[00:49:44] where the people get raptured up.
[00:49:46] Raptured raptured, yeah, yeah.
[00:49:47] Sorry, I was eluding I saw the grocery store, everybody else was starting to buy the stuff and the shelves were empty. And then my sister was like, no, it's ridiculous. This isn't happening, but then she went that same day and bought like 10 packages of toilet paper. Cause she was like, well, I mean, it's ridiculous, but I might as well do what everybody else is doing.
[00:51:02] Right.
[00:51:02] And I was like, and then it happened.
[00:51:05] Yes, it did.
[00:51:06] The pandemic came. But what I feel is happening they already knew that the northern tribes have been taken over right? Sure, they knew that these tribes from the north were closing in on them and we're gonna start like they were hitting their outer towns and different things like that they knew they were coming for them, right? Yeah, and these prophets Jeremiah specifically is like hey, this thing is gonna happen and you know, you're kind of gonna be like yeah, it's coming I see it but
[00:53:22] I could believe that that would possibly be the case. Right.
[00:53:23] Yeah.
[00:53:24] So I don't want to say that with conviction that I knew that that was going on.
[00:53:27] Especially when we know that he came from a wealthy family.
[00:53:30] Right.
[00:53:31] But wealthy people like to get more wealthy.
[00:53:33] Sure.
[00:53:34] That is true.
[00:53:35] That is true.
[00:53:36] Yeah.
[00:53:37] No, you're absolutely 100% right.
[00:53:40] So let me give you a couple of notes that I came up with. Let me see. I already talked about the six of the ten commandments that he accused the people of right breaking Yeah, okay now going down to the Tofit Tofit You know that was in the same sentence as the Valley of him on right okay Tofit was originally not a local name, but a descriptive epithet meaning a thing spat upon and loathed
[00:56:08] bad period. The end. I think maybe you're not saying the message right. Yeah. Maybe that's why. Yeah. Some of those the moral messaging gets lost and how they say these things in the Bible.
[00:56:16] Stop killing the children here. No, stop killing the children period. Yeah. And this is the bad
[00:56:22] thing. Yeah. Just say that. Yeah. Yeah. Not just don't do it in the high places. Not just don't do it I was like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm
[00:57:40] like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm
[00:57:44] like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like,
[00:57:47] I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm sorry, no, that was Jeremiah chapter seven. Are we still saying? I can't. Hell, it's going to, I don't know. We're going to be halfway through Jeremiah before I forget about the damn thing. So that was Jeremiah chapter seven. Sure, first was. Means that today we are getting into Jeremiah chapter eight. All right, let's do this. Okie dokie. Okay.
[00:59:00] So we're just going to leave there. He's going to kill them all and then he's going to leave them on the on the planet to rot and die that way. Yes.
[01:00:20] I have a note about this actually.
[01:00:21] Okay.
[01:00:22] The custom of raising the bodies of the dead and scattering their bones about was extremely
[01:00:28] common. people, how do you rectify what you, you know, like you can't even say, sorry, you're, you're fucking dead. Right. Well, it's, it's, um, the bad, the invaders are doing this. Oh, okay. Like God is saying your, the invaders are going to come and they're going to dig up the bones of those already dead and they're going to scatter them everywhere.
[01:01:42] But according to God, God's the one directing them to do this anyway.
[01:01:44] So it's technically still God if you ask me. Good times, right? Yeah, I know I'm excited. Yeah, moreover, you shall say to them, thus says the Lord Will they fall and not rise? Will one turn away and not return? Why has this people slid in back? Jerusalem in a perpetual backsliding they hold fast to receipt
[01:03:00] They refute I said receipt, but I meant deceit. Ah, they hold fast. They don't have receipts
[01:03:06] No, they didn't know that. The skies is what they mean by heaven. It's not the heavenly host. The heavens being the... Anything that's not on earth.
[01:04:21] Yeah. And the turtle dove, the swift and the swallow,
[01:04:24] observe the time of their coming. you're gonna pass them off to the victors after you're done. Well, what he's saying is if you don't If you don't value what you have then I'm I'm going to take that stuff away from you and, even to the priest, everyone deals falsely, for they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, peace, peace when there is no peace. So I guess what that's saying is like,
[01:07:00] they're yelling for peace now that it's too late
[01:07:04] or whatever.
[01:07:05] Got it, yeah. I will surely consume them, says the Lord. No grapes shall be on the vine, nor figs on the fig tree, and the leaf shall fade, and the things I have given them shall pass away from them. Okay. This sounds to me like he's like possibly considering toying with,
[01:08:23] just getting rid of his Israelites altogether.
[01:08:25] He's thinking about a genocide.
[01:08:27] Right, yeah. It's also like you have the gall, you have the nerve. Like it's kind of a double meaning. Sure. We looked for peace, but no good came. For a time of health, there was trouble. The snorting of his horses was heard from Dan. Good old Dan. It's heard from them in a while.
[01:09:41] On that, right?
[01:09:42] The whole land trembled at the sound of the naying
[01:09:45] of his strong ones. that the Lord in Zion is not her king in her? Yeah, he is. Why have they provoked me to anger with their carved images with foreign idols? You're still going on about those fucking idols. Like they get it, you're mad. They've never left. They still have never.
[01:11:00] We talked about that, we talk about this all the time.
[01:11:01] They still are around in some sense.
[01:11:04] I know.
[01:11:05] So it's just, it's never, you never won that battle.
[01:12:07] astonishment has taken hold of me. Is there no balm and gilliard? Is there no physician there?
[01:12:13] Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people the end?
[01:12:17] But I have a note about that gilliard thing. Okay. Yeah, so
[01:12:23] Let me go down here. Sure. Gilliard was the land just east of the Jordan River
[01:12:26] It was known for its healing bombs Can you give us a new message now? But we talked about this too. The end of the world type shit and doom and gloom, those are popular messages. Like even today, in today's media, the end of things is a popular messaging technique. I know it's just that for eight chapters he's like, they go getcha.
[01:13:40] If it bleeds, it leads, you know?
[01:13:42] I get that.
[01:13:44] But eat chapters of he coming, he coming, he won't getcha. They were gonna scatter some bones of people that were dead and there was lots of like Rejecting God and God being mad about it and they were worshipping idols as usual and God's gonna kill them all stuff and then Isaiah's like where's the humanity and So you got to serve God and worship God and repent. Is there a doctor in the house? Yeah, we need a doctor help
[01:16:06] special sauce in every bite. I love the pillowy soft golden bun. So in the words of the hamburger, which I believe means grab McDonald's best burgers ever before hamburger does at a McDonald's near you.
[01:16:15] All right, we are going to hop into Jeremiah chapter nine. Okay. But before we do that,
[01:16:21] just wanted to reiterate that we are still in the woods far, far away. But instead of he screaming at the fucking top of his lungs at the end of the temple. Yeah, like dude, you could just go home. Right? Yeah, we don't go away.
[01:17:41] Yeah, I mean, you already know ahead of time
[01:17:45] that your words are falling on deaf ears,
[01:17:47] but you're doing it anyway.
[01:17:48] Right, right. Because you're evil because I'm evil right yeah, yeah, okay Everyone take heed to his neighbor and do not trust any brother For every brother will utterly supplant and every neighbor will walk with slanderers Evil be be paranoid all the time that everybody else sucks. Yes. You are the only true person
[01:19:04] Everyone else's shit. Yes. Yes, that's a sense, right? Yeah Therefore thus says the Lord of hosts behold. I will refine them and try them more more refining
[01:20:21] That a nice word for murder
[01:20:23] When he gives them
[01:20:26] hardships, yeah, so nice word for murder. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes I hear church bells though. Yes. Because we do them near enough to a church that we either go off. Yeah. There's also a bar a couple of streets over. So every once in a while we hear music or cheering, yelling, police car. Every now and again. Right. Yeah.
[01:21:41] Have you ever been to that bar?
[01:21:42] I have not.
[01:21:43] I have not either.
[01:21:44] Have you heard anything about it?
[01:21:45] Is it good bar?
[01:21:47] I don't know even which going to sound similar. Yeah. It's all of the prophets are like, God's going to kill you all and the wilds will take over. Because fear is all that really sells. Like you gain followers by making them fearful of what the consequences are. This was like early days of Facebook.
[01:23:03] All right, we're entering a new little section here you on this. Yeah Why does the land perish and burn up like a wilderness so that no one can pass through? Because you all the other... Only your entire life and your family's life. And start being afraid all the time. Right. Always be afraid. Never not be children is like a really low bar. It really is. Like you win by mirror. And I think that's shown. You don't kill children. Go you. Right. And I think that's shown through how shitty the Bible has been so far as rules and how
[01:27:02] God treats his followers and all that.
[01:27:06] Yeah.
[01:27:07] Sorry. bunch of non believers. Got it. So it's like the worst possible thing that they could do. Okay. Like, yeah, I checked my notes on that. So got it. Got it. There was like a whole bunch of like, it's the worst thing that you could ever do. Got it. And the indignity of it. Right. Which I'm it.
[01:28:20] The way they described it on my notes was like it was a double death.
[01:28:25] Like not only did you die, but I know what it's not. And a ton of cemeteries just all over the earth taking a plan. That is not correct.
[01:29:41] Right, right.
[01:29:42] It's, it's't seem to occur to them. The trash that they're leaving in the planet, inside the planet, and all around the and just wailing as much. Yeah I mean it was like a whole thing. Interesting. Yeah. But it's still honoring the dead. Right, right. In some fashion. Okay. So let them make haste and take up a whaling for right? So for death has come through our windows has entered our palaces to kill off the children no longer to be outside. And the young men no longer on the streets speak, thus says the Lord, even the carcasses of men shall fall as
[01:35:02] refuse on the open field, like cuttings after the harvester, and no one shall gather them.
[01:36:01] His bloodthirsty. Yeah, he's just a mass killing mother of, you know,
[01:36:05] he's shit.
[01:36:06] What I'm finding really hard to reconcile is,
[01:36:09] as God is saying to the Israelites, I will kill you all.
[01:36:14] Yeah.
[01:36:16] In current day Israel, the Israelis are saying
[01:36:21] to the Palestinians, we will kill you all.
[01:36:24] And that's why I feel like some of this is very dangerous,
[01:36:27] right? Yeah, yeah, it's really gross. Yeah,. Right. You're doing it wrong. Yeah. God doesn't give a fuck about your fucking football game guys. And I say that as somebody who actually enjoys watching a football game now and again, you know? So I was actually, I was listening to a podcast today and it was, it was the friendly atheist. So, you know, and they were, he was talking about, there was a school district, I think
[01:39:05] don't, I'm going to butcher this a little bit, but I think it was in Arizona.
[01:39:08] Okay. another one that is okay with it. But the first one was very soft-spoken and said, I don't think that, I'm paraphrasing here. I don't think this. I don't think we should bring religion into this, because you know. Religion. Because, well, because you're. Separation of church and state. Right, exactly. You're Christian, maybe some of us aren't, you don't know.
[01:40:20] And then another kid chimed in to back them up.
[01:40:23] Good girl.
[01:40:23] And that kid was a little bit more forceful
[01:40:27] and was like, you know, And we said, please know that would not be okay. Some of us are not Christian. They have a nice fucking day. Yeah. Yeah. Oof. They still do prayers at the opening
[01:41:43] of high school graduation ceremonies here.
[01:41:46] Yeah, that bothers me.
[01:41:47] And they do it. Yeah, and and you know you give the Christians an inch and they take a goddamn mile And they don't just pray they force you to pray with them and then they they Try to get prayer every which way and then when you say can I not do this?
[01:43:01] I don't want to then they say that you're persecuting them right right
[01:44:01] in those things. Right, yeah.
[01:44:02] You're showing off.
[01:44:03] Yeah.
[01:44:04] So, yeah.
[01:44:05] Stop it.
[01:44:06] Yeah.
[01:44:07] Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, that I will punish all who are circumcised
[01:44:10] with the uncircumcised.
[01:44:13] He's saying, I don't give a fuck if you're circumcised or not anymore.
[01:44:17] No, okay.
[01:44:18] Because even if your wiener no longer has foreskin, you did it for the wrong reason probably and
[01:44:26] you are still up for punishment.
[01:44:28] You're a worm. saying it's not enough just to cut off the tip of your dick. Right. You've also got to snip your heart a little bit. Right. Got it for God. Yeah. Yeah. For God, the glory of God. I it's symbolic. But yeah, I get it. Yeah. Symbolic snipping. Right. I understand it. I just there's just that he just never can have enough like fear and worship.
[01:45:42] Ever ever.
[01:45:44] There was an interesting note about all who are in the farthest corners like of the earth is the interpretation that we're with, where it's geography. In other translations, it's not talking about geography,
[01:47:03] it's talking about how your bones are getting scattered We sure as fuck did and I believe Jeremiah was telling everybody not to trust everybody because we're in Fox News land and you know Thank you can be the perfect God follower You know only you but everybody else sucks and they deserve your neighbor died because they deserved it right?
[01:48:20] That's what they they were worshiping false idols and
[01:48:24] They they weren't walking the straight path. I don't care what they said
[01:49:23] the gate of the temple in Jerusalem. He is standing in his sandwich board, bringing his bells, shouting, and screaming,
[01:49:27] the end is not the end is fucking nine. Yeah, yeah. So that's
[01:49:32] what's happening. Okay, all right. Here are the word which
[01:49:36] the Lord speaks to you, Oh, house of Israel, thus says the Lord
[01:49:41] do not learn the way of the Gent are. Okay. So he's telling them, stop being like that. Okay. So, okay, all right, that's fair. I mean, I guess, I mean, I mean, honestly,
[01:51:01] we, he's just stopping a step too far.
[01:51:05] He's going, he's not going far enough
[01:51:07] because we really don't need to worry about any of this shit.
[01:51:08] Right. The worship of the tree is indicated by the warning, do not be afraid of them in the sense that one would give reverence to a pagan idol. Okay. So it's fine that we have a tree because we no longer give reverence to it as a pagan idol. Oh, I see, I see. We can do the ritual as long as we don't give any special meaning to that tree.
[01:52:25] It's not interesting take. This particular apologist says that is bad and wrong. Right, right. I shouldn't say Christmas is stupid.
[01:55:00] People, even atheists, celebrate Christmas.
[01:55:02] Is it giving holiday as a family gathering holiday?
[01:55:06] It's not stupid.
[01:55:07] What's stupid to me about it is It's a symbol. Yeah. It's a goddamn symbol. Like a cross, it's a symbol. Yeah. Or like lighting a candle at mass in a Catholic church. It's a symbol. Right, and to say otherwise, it's very disingenuous. Yeah. You're attributing ideas to these people that you don't understand because you're not worshiping that way. You're not worshiping these, you don't understand their practices.
[01:56:20] You're assuming things about them.
[01:56:23] But what's really funny is that a Catholic will like
[01:56:27] do their rosary beads.
[01:56:29] Yeah. My belief is blah, blah, blah, and I find comfort in it. Right, I think I would feel a lot better if I was talking to a religious person who could see the flaws inherent in their religion and admit them and still say, but hey, I do still believe not for the Bible's sake but for my own sake and for reasons of my own. You know, like that's something that's a little bit more spiritual.
[01:57:40] And yeah, I don't agree with it,
[01:57:44] but it makes me feel like they're they're nothing right, you know, because they're an animate object sure in as much as there is none like you Oh Lord, you are great and your name is great in might who would not fear you?
[01:59:01] Oh king of the nations like me me also. Yeah, yeah, not afraid not afraid
[02:00:02] Interesting. Tell me more. Right. You know, you could say that, but they also, like the Israelites built the ark, right?
[02:00:08] And the ark was supposedly the throne of God.
[02:00:11] Yeah.
[02:00:11] And so like that is a, they, that is not an, to the, to the Israelites, that is not an
[02:00:17] an anemone object, right?
[02:00:18] That is a literal godly piece of work that God sat on.
[02:00:23] And it's still in.
[02:00:25] Right. Right. At some level. God's pissed again. Thus you shall say to them, the gods that have not made the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens. You know what, this pisses me off too. The fact that if something shitty were to happen in the world, right? Let's say World War III happens, right?
[02:01:40] God forbid.
[02:01:41] And sorry, manorous speech, apologize.
[02:01:44] But let's just say something like,
[02:01:47] the Christians would be like, Right. That's that's the mindset that I hate. I cannot stand it. When we are literally talking about it's fine to do a genocide and you don't hear what you're saying. That's fucking problematic. Yeah. Yeah. He has made the earth by his power. We're talking about how there's only one true God and all the others aren't real.
[02:03:02] Even though he doesn't even know about North Earth caveman kind of thing. Yeah, yeah. Everyone is dull-hearted. Oh, so you like it again? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Without knowledge, every metal smith is put to shame by an image for his molded image as falsehood,
[02:04:20] and there is no breath in them.
[02:04:22] Fake shit, you know?
[02:04:24] They are futile, a work of errors. Judaism and almost Christianity. So we're like, we're bringing more angels in. Got it. So yeah. It's just funny to me how the name of God has evolved through the many books that we've read. Yeah. So. I had a note about verse 11. Let me reread that because I don't remember, even though we literally just read it.
[02:05:44] Okay. Gather up your wares from the land, oh, inhabitant of the fortress. For thus says the Lord, behold, I will throw out at this time the inhabitants of the land and will distress them that they may find it so. Oh, whoa, is me from my hurt.
[02:08:03] sought the Lord, the shepherds have become dullhearted and if not sought the Lord. Therefore, they shall not prosper those fuckers and all their flocks shall be scattered, smothered,
[02:08:10] covered.
[02:08:11] Okay.
[02:08:12] Yeah.
[02:08:13] Behold, the noise of the report has come in a great commotion out of the North country
[02:08:19] to make the cities of Judah desolate, Adena Jackals.
[02:08:23] We really like that.
[02:08:24] Denna Jackals.
[02:08:25] Yeah.
[02:08:26] It's almost like we repeat half the ship't believe in you, go kill them.
[02:09:41] It does make me wonder.
[02:09:43] Like that is something that bothers me.
[02:09:44] Like he actually uses some of these people
[02:09:47] that don't believe sense to me. But there had to be a reason for them to be put upon throughout history. Oh yeah. And so they had to have this back them up. Yeah. Like retrofitting shit that happens basically. You gotta make sense of what has happened.
[02:11:00] Yes.
[02:11:01] If you're still gonna believe in that fucking entity.
[02:11:03] Right.
[02:11:04] Okay, last sentence here.
[02:11:05] Okay.
[02:11:06] Yeah. of wherever he is because I think they were already kind of approaching and taking chart, you know, they were destroying the outskirts of Jerusalem when this was like, that's how it's feeling. Although we feel like this might have been written in the Babylonian exile or at least parts of it might have been at least edited then because there was that
[02:12:20] excerpt from the Babylonian, you know, so to see the future. And if there's one thing that's consistent in the Bible, is that the wording and the writing of it has been tampered with multiple times. Yeah. And that everything's a goddamn mess. Right.
[02:13:40] From Christmas trees to...
[02:13:41] We can definitely count on that.
[02:13:43] Yeah, yeah, for sure.
[02:13:44] Yeah.
[02:13:45] So anyway, that Jeremiah, chapter 11. All right guys, we'll see you then. Bye. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Husband. What do you know what today is
[02:15:01] and what the hell we're doing?
[02:15:02] Well, today is still Saturday technically.
[02:15:05] So it's Saturday.
[02:15:08] What are we doing? indicates that the middle letter of the Tanakh, which is the whole Hebrew Bible, resides within chapter 6 verse 7 of Jeremiah. The middle letter? The middle letter. Oh, like, okay. Yeah. Like the very middle of the... You really like talking about the
[02:16:20] middle of whatever. They come up... It's not that I like talking about it in I got it. I got it. Okay. So anyway, um, chapter six, verse seven of Jeremiah, just as a recap goes as a fountain wells up with water. So she wells up with her wickedness, violence and plundering our herd in her before me continually our grief and wounds.
[02:17:40] And this is where the middle letter lays. Yes, the very middle of the tonic got it. Okay. All right. Very ghost stories, right? Right. So she is a whaling woman also referred to as a banshee because she cries and wails because In a fit of despair she drowned her children Okay, like her husband cheated on her or something got it So it she went mad and drowned her children and killed herself and now for the rest of eternity
[02:20:04] were literally funeral directors and grief counselors. Okay. Okay. They like bore all these different titles. Sure. Okay. Um,
[02:20:08] so let me tell you a little bit about grief as a communal activity. Okay. Okay. As
[02:20:14] as, as, as in ancient Jewish. Yes. An ancient Jewish tradition. Yes. Okay. All right.
[02:20:20] Okay. So grieving was a communal activity and Jeremiah played a great role that we should not overlook.
[02:21:40] Okay.
[02:21:41] Yeah.
[02:21:42] Because they were among the few who actually listened to Jeremiah and took the dire situation for hire, like sometimes they just did it. Emergency response crews. Kind of, kind of. I mean, like they could be available at anybody's funeral that they cared about or that made sense for them to be there. Sure. But also, I'm going to get into this a little bit. They were also hired to perform at funerals. So used instruments, songs, and dances along with their voices. The length of time the professional whalers were used depended on the wealth and status of the family. Okay. So that's when they're hired, you know,
[02:24:20] like if somebody was really rich or had great status
[02:24:23] they would hire a ton of these people to come out they also were available in their free time. To come and go as they pleased, you know? To measure the wealth and fame someone had achieved during his lifetime, one would only have to glance at the size of the funeral procession, carrying the dead body to its final resting place. So yeah, it kind of summarizes what you just said.
[02:25:40] Right.
[02:25:42] Up to dozens of wailing women were employed to shed tears, grasp the dead body with a horrified glance or kne type of a ceremony Yeah, like a like a real party only right of the whaling women it would be the dancing
[02:28:22] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
[02:28:24] So basically the whaling women without the crying and whaling right or whaling in
[02:29:27] I would imagine separately because they were even way back then, still very closed off from the rest of the world. Right.
[02:29:27] I would just imagine that humanity over time always develops a way to deal with the dead.
[02:29:35] Deal with grief and deal with all that.
[02:29:36] Yeah.
[02:29:36] I mean, cavemen everywhere, like, we're putting rocks on bodies all at the same time because it kept wild animals from chewing up the bone.
[02:29:46] Sure.
[02:29:46] You know? followed in their footsteps across 18th century Europe. Funeral mutes where people paid to display sad grave faces at funerals, typical characters of Victorian era England, wearing black clothes and gloves. These professional mourners said nothing,
[02:31:01] you know, mute, but added by their presence
[02:31:04] to the sinister tone of the funeral procession. Next our book club our book club. Yeah sacrilegious book club that one Sorry, and then I think we're also gonna try to do it might be later in the day when this releases like so like this I'll be coming out this this episode be coming out Saturday night late into Sunday the book club will be coming out Sunday morning and then
[02:32:21] Later we're gonna try to do a patreon episode
[02:32:24] And then I'll get the weekly wrap up book and then you'd find it. Exactly, exactly. It's a big old book and they're hard to find. Sure. And what kind of sections are we going over today? We are on part four which is Tales and Legends. We are going to finish up chapter one biblical side lights and we are going to cover chapter two, The World to Come.
[02:33:44] Okay. You ready to do this? Yes I am interesting. Yeah, especially given what I'm reading. When David reached the summit of the Mount of Olives, he
[02:35:01] said to his servants, go and find me an idol and bring it here. When David's as David. He rules his people with the fear of God in his heart. He does only good, meets out justice and fulfills all of God's commandments. Now therefore consider who shy when the people hear about my miserable plight, how my son Absalom attacked me and tried to kill me. What do you suppose they will think?
[02:36:21] They will say what a waste to worship in your God. Right. Yeah. Yeah. That's, that's spreading a false message. Mm hmm. I don't, I don't agree with that. I think that's, that's shitty actually. I totally agree. So, okay. I thought it was an interesting story. Like you said, given what we've been reading about. Right. Right. Okay. The next story is on page 477.
[02:37:41] It's called Better Than a Dead Lion.
[02:37:44] Once King David said to God, but whatever. Yeah, it is weird. From that time on, King David spent the entire Sabbath day in devoted study of the Torah. And when the Sabbath on which he was to die arrived, the angel of death rose up against
[02:39:04] him. Oh, right. Right. Can't work. They got to leave him there. What you going to do? That's right. But his bones are about to get scattered by dogs. Right. That's not cool. No. The sages replied, your father was a king in his life. Now that he is dead, he is only a corpse. One may not violate the Sabbath for the sake of a dead man.
[02:40:22] Oh my God.
[02:40:23] And when Solomon heard these words, he commented, a live dog is better than a dead lion. 77 and it's called the origin of the Roman Empire and next to it. I wrote what the actual thought So we're gonna find out what I meant by that. Okay. Yeah When King Solomon took Pharaoh's daughter for a wife. She brought with her from Egypt a thousand different musical instruments She instructed him in the use of them all saying in this manner you play to honor this idol in that manner
[02:41:47] You play to honor that idol to Play instruments to various gods. Oh my god idols. What a bunch of shit, right? Like that's a that's a really weird story. I know that's why I wrote WTAF. Okay, all right Also, I don't remember they didn't they didn't get conquered during Solomon's time. Did they know what that happened eventually?
[02:43:00] Yeah, yeah, but I mean kick the can down the road. Yeah, yeah
[02:43:04] All right now we're on chapter two the world to come which begins on page 502 describing the five different layers of heaven or the the Gann-Edan which is the garden of Eden and so I'll just read the first part of this okay. The Gann-Edan at the east measures 800 the Talmud, in paradise, there is no eating, no drinking, no cohabitation, no business, no hatred or ambition, but the righteous sit with crowned heads and enjoy
[02:45:40] the radiance of the Shikaiina. The 11th century philosopher,'s like, okay, I agree with you that that crazy is not good. But sure, but like, we're just, heff smothered by the mud. Hearing his cries, a rich man who, chance to pass by, came to his rescue. He ordered his coachman to pull the farmer from underneath the wagon and to free his horse. Then, tying a rope from his coach to the shaft of the wagon, he whipped up his horses and pulled
[02:48:22] the wagon out of the mud. He then drove the accusing angel. Let the poor farmers horse and wagon be placed in the scales, asked the angel of mercy. God agreed and it was so done. Yeah. Not enough cried the accusing angel. And this came us a fucked up a lot. Right. Yeah. All right. The next one is on page 507 and it's called Tapers to Heaven. A widow once came to the rabbi. She was all in tears. Her daughter was being married, but she had no candlesticks to place on the festive table. She was afraid of being humiliated
[02:51:03] before others. So the rabbi gave her his best silver candlesticks.
[02:52:07] The one that I'm gonna recall from this though is like the three sentence one where yeah, that's that
[02:52:11] Angel Gabriel was like you Solomon let your wife
[02:52:14] do Musical things of badness to idols right I created the fucking Roman Empire to destroy you guys eventually
[02:52:22] Definitely weird. Yeah, right. Yeah
[02:53:24] And then I will get out the weekly wrap up so that'll all be done before
[02:53:29] Tomorrow at some point today, and then on
[02:53:35] Monday we'll be back with Jeremiah chapter 11. All right. We'll see you guys then. Bye
[02:59:02] Welcome to sacrilegious discourse I'm husband and I'm Separation of church and state and we're gonna talk about a little movie that just came out. Oh, and we're gonna talk about How we just didn't understand what the Constitution meant and all kinds of stuff. We were misinformed apparently Yeah, okay. Yeah, we are misunderstanding it. now. Yeah. Just wanted to make sure we all knew who Mike Johnson is. Yeah. Got it. And he said in an interview at that same time period that separation of church and state are not written in the Constitution. I'm quoting from this article. Many legal scholars have said that the phrase is a reference to the and excited about it. Yeah.
