Put on your detective hat and join us as we dive headfirst into the perplexing world of biblical prophecies. In this episode, we're tiptoeing through the tulips of Isaiah's doom-laden visions, mulling over the symbol of the ever-popular Biblical meetup spot - the threshing floor, and unpacking the prophetic head-scratchers of Duma's downfall and Babylon's bad day.
But don't worry, it's not all fire and brimstone! We're also throwing shade at the vagueness of prophecies and asking the tough questions like: "Were these things written before or after lunch?" and "How do these prophecies stack up against Nostradamus' musings or your Aunt Karen's horoscope readings?"
Tune in and get ready to laugh, ponder, and potentially question your understanding of the prophetic books of the Bible. It's a biblical rollercoaster of a ride that promises to leave you both enlightened and thoroughly entertained!

00:00 - Wife (Host)
Husband Wife. Do you remember where we are and what we're doing now?
00:04 - Husband (Host)
Well, obviously we're still in Isaiah, because this is a ridiculously long book. It is, but they're short chapters usually.
00:09 - Wife (Host)
They are.
00:10 - Husband (Host)
And we just got done talking about how God is going to kill lots of people in Egypt, ethiopia, syria, maybe Israel. Well, Judah. Yeah, so there's lots of people that are gonna die.
00:23 - Wife (Host)
And they're all tools.
00:25 - Husband (Host)
I mean yeah.
00:28 - Wife (Host)
And they're all being used as tools.
00:31 - Husband (Host)
Well, at least the ones that aren't Israelites.
00:34 - Wife (Host)
Right.
00:34 - Husband (Host)
So maybe some of them are being used. I mean, I guess Isaiah is technically being used as a tool, yeah, yeah.
00:39 - Wife (Host)
A tool to bring others to God or whatever. A naked tool, a naked tool, but was he naked?
00:45 - Husband (Host)
or wasn't he? Well, if you listen to the Q&A that we just did, then that's debatable.
00:49 - Wife (Host)
So he may or may not have had undies on that's right, that's right.
00:53 - Husband (Host)
So I think the last regular episode that we left off on was Isaiah, chapter 20.
00:58 - Wife (Host)
Yes, it was.
00:59 - Husband (Host)
Which means that today we're going to be reading.
01:02 - Wife (Host)
Isaiah, chapter 21.
01:03 - Husband (Host)
All right, let's do this.
01:04 - Wife (Host)
Okie, dokie, okay. So here we are in Isaiah, chapter 21.
01:19 - Husband (Host)
Okay.
01:19 - Wife (Host)
And I'm about to start reading it. But I do want to tell you that this chapter has a bunch of small sections in it. Okay, they're all like little. An oracle about this, a prophecy about that.
01:32 - Husband (Host)
Got it Okay.
01:33 - Wife (Host)
So here we go A prophecy against the desert by the sea.
01:38 - Husband (Host)
The desert by the sea, that one desert, that one desert by that one sea Got it Okay, yep.
01:43 - Wife (Host)
Like whirlwinds sweeping through the Southland, an invader comes from the desert, from a land of terror. A dire vision has been shown to me, me being Isaiah.
01:54 - Husband (Host)
Yeah.
01:55 - Wife (Host)
The traitor betrays the looter, takes loot. Elam attack Medea l'esige. I will bring to an end all the groaning she caused. At this, my body is wracked with pain. Pings sees me like those of a woman in labor. I am staggered by what I hear. I am bewildered by what I see. My heart falters. Fear makes me tremble. The twilight I longed for has become a horror to me. This sounds like a ghost story.
02:28 - Husband (Host)
Right, right, I was thinking, you know, like with the desert and everything and the prophecies and all this, it's starting like one of my favorite book series is Dune and some of this sounds like it comes straight from fucking Dune.
02:40 - Wife (Host)
That's because some of Dune comes straight from the fucking Bible.
02:45 - Husband (Host)
I'm just saying. I'm just saying Right.
02:47 - Wife (Host)
They set the tables, they spread the rugs, they eat, they drink. Get up, you officers Oil the shields. This is what the Lord says to me. Go post a look out and have him report what he sees. When he sees chariots with teams of horses, riders on donkeys or riders on camels, let him be alert, fully alert. What about riders on the wind Riders? On the wind Is that.
03:16 - Husband (Host)
Yeah, I don't know.
03:17 - Wife (Host)
That's a good song.
03:18 - Husband (Host)
Yeah.
03:18 - Wife (Host)
Okay, and the look out shouted day after day. My Lord, I stand on the watch tower. Every night I stay at my post. Look, here comes a man and a chariot with a team of horses. Oh and he gives back the answer Babylon has fallen. Has fallen All the images of its gods, like shattered on the ground.
03:40 - Husband (Host)
He sees all that from the outpost on the tower thing.
03:44 - Wife (Host)
No, the one guy is leading a team of horses and he just came from there and he's shouting to the lookout.
03:50 - Husband (Host)
Oh, okay, okay.
03:51 - Wife (Host)
Yeah, yeah, he's shouting from where he just came from. He's like dude, dude, dude. Babylon just fell, what, what.
03:58 - Husband (Host)
Got it.
03:59 - Wife (Host)
My people who are crushed on the threshing floor. I tell you what I have heard from the Lord.
04:04 - Husband (Host)
Almighty from the God of Israel A lot of things happen on the threshing floor. They do, yeah.
04:09 - Wife (Host)
Do you notice that?
04:10 - Husband (Host)
Like that's a very popular place in the Bible.
04:12 - Wife (Host)
That's a great place to meet up. Yeah, we should name. If we ever have a store, we should name it. The threshing floor.
04:19 - Husband (Host)
There's probably a church somewhere called the threshing floor, I bet you're right, it would be a great name.
04:23 - Wife (Host)
I think that's what I just said, oh is it, I'm dumb? Yeah, I said if we ever had a bookstore, we should call it the threshing floor. Oh, you have a bookstore.
04:29 - Husband (Host)
Yeah, but I'm saying, I'm saying for a church though would be a great name.
04:31 - Wife (Host)
Oh yeah, you're right, You're right.
04:32 - Husband (Host)
Maybe I don't know, I'd have to look into all the imagery of what it you know this is not great here, no, no, no, but they do meet up there a lot. Yes, they do Right.
04:42 - Wife (Host)
I know.
04:42 - Husband (Host)
Ruth was in a threshing floor at one point.
04:44 - Wife (Host)
Yes, yes, yes, she was yeah, okay. So now we are reading the next bit which is a prophecy against Duma.
04:54 - Husband (Host)
Duma Got it yes.
04:55 - Wife (Host)
Someone calls to me from the seer Watchman, what is left of the night? Watchman, what is left of the night? You repeat your sentence when you're going for word count. Ah okay, the Watchman replies. Morning is coming, but also the night. If you would ask, then ask and come back yet again. Okay, I don't.
05:17 - Husband (Host)
Such a profound statement. Morning is coming and also the night. Yeah, that's what happens in a linear time frame, as it does. Yeah.
05:24 - Wife (Host)
I think I might definitely need a recap of all these chapters again if they're going to keep going like this.
05:31 - Husband (Host)
This is very odd.
05:33 - Wife (Host)
Right.
05:33 - Husband (Host)
It's compared to what we've been reading.
05:34 - Wife (Host)
Yeah, yeah.
05:35 - Husband (Host)
These are almost like little mini stories or something.
05:38 - Wife (Host)
Speaking of little mini stories, here's the next one.
05:40 - Husband (Host)
Okay, yeah.
05:41 - Wife (Host)
A prophecy against Arabia.
05:43 - Husband (Host)
Okay.
05:43 - Wife (Host)
You, caravans of deadenights who camp in the thickets of Arabia. Bring water for the thirsty. You who live in Tima, bring food for the fugitives. They flee from the sword, from the drawn sword, from the bent bow and from the heat of battle. This is what the Lord says to me. Within one year, as a servant bound by contract would count it all. The splendor of Qadar will come to an end. The survivors of the archers, the warriors of Qadar will be few. The Lord, the God of Israel, has spoken the end.
06:18
Okay so a bunch of prophecies.
06:20 - Husband (Host)
A bunch of people are dying and apparently God's causing it. Maybe.
06:23 - Wife (Host)
A bunch of prophecies about a bunch of little places that are getting attacked.
06:27 - Husband (Host)
Yeah.
06:27 - Wife (Host)
And they're all running around to each other saying I got attacked, my place was attacked, what?
06:32 - Husband (Host)
about your place?
06:32 - Wife (Host)
Yeah, my place was attacked too.
06:34 - Husband (Host)
See how true this true is.
06:35 - Wife (Host)
It's true, it's true, yeah, because we said it has.
06:38 - Husband (Host)
Because they came running on chariots, yeah, and then they said that the night and the morning were coming. So it's true.
06:44 - Wife (Host)
That happens, yeah, sure.
06:46 - Husband (Host)
Okay.
06:47 - Wife (Host)
That's all I got.
06:48 - Husband (Host)
That's it.
06:49 - Wife (Host)
That's it. I said the end.
06:50 - Husband (Host)
Oh well, shit.
06:51 - Wife (Host)
The Lord, the God of Israel, spoke in the end.
06:53 - Husband (Host)
I didn't have like so normally like I have a lot of things to say while we're listening to it or while I'm listening to you read it, but there wasn't really a lot to comment on this time because it was just a bunch of small little stories about stuff that doesn't really Vignettes. I don't know what they're referring to. Well, at least not yet Not till. We dig into this one.
07:11 - Wife (Host)
They're all separate little places that are being attacked, and so they're all like men running from one town to another saying my town's under attack and I'm going us too, and then running somewhere else and going what about your town? Is your town under attack too?
07:27 - Husband (Host)
But is this supposed to be current time, or is this prophecies that? Is still prophesizing.
07:33 - Wife (Host)
They're prophecies, but I think they're near prophecies.
07:36 - Husband (Host)
Well, we've discussed that before. It seems like a lot of these are going to be soon to happen.
07:41 - Wife (Host)
That's what I know. Right, I know I was agreeing with you. Okay, just checking.
07:50 - Husband (Host)
But, yeah, I'd want to know more about if and when these came true or whatever. Now, even so, I read some studying about like last week's stuff where people were like and this did happen, and it's like, well, but the prophecies are so vague that they could be interpreted to mean anything. And also, were they written before or after this happened, right? I mean, I don't know these things for sure, right, like that would be something I would be interested in knowing too.
08:17 - Wife (Host)
When they were written. What do biblical scholars say?
08:19 - Husband (Host)
about when these things were written. Were they written after the fact or were they actually written before, Right. And if they were written before, I mean, you know, people still buy books by Nostradamus because he supposedly prophesies things that are still happening which is bullshit. They're just vague story. It's like doing a fucking. What do you call those things? The horoscopes? Mm-hmm. You just say some words that sound like they could be true and then people are like yeah that's totally what happened.
08:48 - Wife (Host)
I mean, she said I was going to have a bad week and I did Right.
08:52 - Husband (Host)
Right yeah.
08:54 - Wife (Host)
Yeah.
08:55 - Husband (Host)
All right.
08:56 - Wife (Host)
Kind of questionable at best, I think.
08:58 - Husband (Host)
Definitely so. That was Isaiah, chapter 21.
09:02 - Wife (Host)
Sure as fuck was.
09:03 - Husband (Host)
And we will be back tomorrow with.
09:05 - Wife (Host)
Isaiah, chapter 22.
09:07 - Husband (Host)
All right, we'll see you, guys then.
09:08 - Wife (Host)
Yep Bye.
