[00:01:56] Well, we just got done reading Jeremiah chapter 49. Sure as fuck did. And we're still in those

[00:02:03] the section where we're going over how God's gonna treat all these other countries and stuff

[00:02:07] in places, I guess. And this last chapter he was going over Amman and Edom, which Edom sounded a

[00:02:17] lot like the Israelites when we got to that one. Like he was gonna redeem them and there's gonna

[00:02:21] be like all these things that he talked very similarly to them as he does to the Israelites

[00:02:28] in the Bible. Sure. That was interesting. And then there was just a bunch of other places

[00:02:32] like Damascus and I don't remember exactly all the rest of them but

[00:02:36] Damascus. Came to places and things and places and stuff. I forget what the last one was the last

[00:02:41] one, Damascus? It was and it was one of the very last ones. Yeah there was Babylon I think and

[00:02:47] Elom and... But whatever the last one was he was like but you guys could have a remnant too.

[00:02:53] Right, yeah. I think it was on what's it called Damascus. I don't remember. It might have been.

[00:02:58] Yeah I could be wrong. But it's really just it's all very confusing and misplaced and

[00:03:04] written differently from the rest of the book. Yeah, yeah. Like what the F is happening. Right.

[00:03:10] So that was Jeremiah chapter 49. Sure as fuck was. And that means today we're getting into...

[00:04:49] All right so we are hopping into Jeremiah chapter 50 and a few notes before we actually get started.

[00:04:58] First of all these few chapters that we're in are oracles to the other nations and they were

[00:05:06] kind of composed as a unit separate from the rest of the book of Jeremiah and apparently they were

[00:05:17] their own separate unit. Okay. And they are not listed chronologically but instead are listed

[00:05:25] geographically and on top of that because of the way they are composed I've not been

[00:05:34] doing notes as we read them right because they are all one unit I'm waiting

[00:05:41] till we finish this unit to do a Q&A over kind of all of the kind of agreed it would be a bit

[00:05:48] overwhelming to do them in the midst of these chapters because there's just so misplaced it's

[00:05:54] so lengthy and weird and yeah so there's not going to be a Q&A on Saturday right and in fact

[00:06:02] it might be a day off. Yeah because chapter 51 will come on Monday and then we'll do the Q&A over

[00:06:14] all the nations that whole unit and then we'll do that'll be on Tuesday I believe

[00:06:21] and then on Wednesday we'll do our wrap up of the entire book of Jeremiah. Yep and then

[00:06:28] Thursday we'll be doing our contradictions. You're always wrong. Yeah that's the because you're always

[00:06:36] wrong. Okay all right and so I'm not sure what we're doing next Friday maybe nothing we'll see

[00:06:43] when we get there. Yeah I'm playing it by ear. Yeah so just doing things a little bit differently

[00:06:49] and you know that's how we roll we kind of play it by ear and we're kind of loosey-goosey

[00:06:54] you know yeah we're just reading this thing and kind of doing what we do right okay so Jeremiah chapter 50

[00:07:03] okay we're getting into Babylon now. Oh okay all right. The word that the Lord spoke against Babylon

[00:07:10] and against the land of the Chaldeans by Jeremiah the prophet. Oh okay so I mean

[00:07:17] Jeremiah's kind of been missing as a reference and most of this. It's like I'm sorry who? Right yeah. Who

[00:07:22] said these? Who? Yeah um and let us also not forget the Chaldeans were a small tribe of

[00:07:30] astronomer loving guys that got kind of swallowed by Babylon right so in the book of Jeremiah the

[00:07:39] terms Chaldean and Babylonian are used interchangeably. Right it's kind of like the Babylonians

[00:07:45] use the Chaldeans as a tool and then God was using the Babylonians as a tool so therefore

[00:07:50] it was like a chain of tools. It was like an MLM. It was like a pyramid scheme. Yeah right yeah. All

[00:07:58] right declare among the nations proclaim and set up a standard. Proclaim do not conceal it.

[00:08:06] Say Babylon is taken. Bell is shamed. Meridoc is broken in pieces. Her idols are humiliated. Her

[00:08:15] images are broken in pieces. I mean this this has got to be a prophecy right because none of this

[00:08:22] shit has happened yet not in Jeremiah anyway. Correct yeah so okay um I guess somebody's

[00:08:29] idols are getting smashed. Right sure I mean that's always happening in the Bible in the

[00:08:34] Old Testament because they don't like idols or whatever. Right for out of the north a nation

[00:08:40] comes up against her which shall make her land desolate and no one shall dwell therein. They

[00:08:47] shall move. They shall depart both man and beast in those days and in that time says the Lord

[00:08:56] the children of Israel shall come yeah they will. They and the children of Judah together

[00:09:02] with continual weeping they shall come. Oh wait so this is the destruction of Israel

[00:09:10] not the destruction of Babylon. This is just talking about the Babylonian. Oh you're right

[00:09:14] you're right it's concerning Babylon so I just took that to mean Babylon gon' get it.

[00:09:20] But no you're right okay sorry it turned me off I figured maybe we were talking about

[00:09:26] God getting his vengeance for Babylon or something. But no that's that was different.

[00:09:31] That's not it he's hating on Israel again. Yeah they shall ask the way to Zion with their faces

[00:09:37] toward it saying come and let us join ourselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that will

[00:09:44] not be forgotten. Is that what they're gonna do? Okay my people have been lost sheep their shepherds

[00:09:51] have led them astray they have turned them away on the mountains they have gone from

[00:09:56] mountain to hill they have forgotten their resting place. I do feel like this was written in

[00:10:02] maybe the same time frame as Jeremiah was like the wording in this one does feel familiar yeah

[00:10:10] so yeah not only that but I I like that God is like oh my people were led astray but I hate

[00:10:18] them anyways right yeah like he's like I totally admit that you had shitty leaders

[00:10:24] but I'm still gonna hold you responsible for that. Yeah it's like the boss that never tells you

[00:10:29] how to do anything with them they still yell at you over shits you're doing wrong yeah yeah so

[00:10:34] all who found them have devoured them and their adversary said we have not offended because

[00:10:41] they have sinned against the Lord the habitation of judge justice the Lord the hope of their

[00:10:48] fathers. That's what conquerors do right they come in they're like your God doesn't

[00:10:53] like you so we haven't we haven't done anything wrong yeah it's not our fault you suck right

[00:10:59] move from the midst of Babylon go out of the land of the Chaldeans and be like the Rams before the

[00:11:06] flocks for behold okay I will raise and cause to come up against Babylon an assembly of great

[00:11:15] nations from the north country oh so now now Babylon is getting there okay come up and

[00:11:20] here we go and they shall array themselves against her from there she shall be captured

[00:11:26] what wasn't Babylon from the north also like they kept coming from the north these these must

[00:11:31] be further from the north I guess or maybe like part of the Babylonians left and took over this area

[00:11:37] and then the rest of the Babylonians were like they're not doing the best job down there let's

[00:11:40] go take them over sure it was like the Babylonians fight the Babylonians I get I couldn't tell

[00:11:46] you somebody from the north though sure yeah Santa Claus maybe

[00:11:52] their arrows shall be like those of an expert warrior none shall return in vain and Chaldea

[00:11:59] shall become plunder all who plunder her shall be satisfied says the Lord because you were glad

[00:12:06] because you rejoiced you destroyers of my heritage because you have grown fat like a

[00:12:13] heifer threshing grain and you bellow like bulls your mother shall be deeply ashamed I am

[00:12:22] always ashamed when my child bellows like a bull yeah no she who bore you shall be ashamed behold

[00:12:30] the least of the nation shall be a wilderness a dry land and a desert okay because of the wrath

[00:12:39] of the Lord she shall not be inhabited but she shall be holy desolate everyone who goes by Babylon

[00:12:47] shall be horrified and hiss at all her place I don't think he's gonna leave anywhere untouched

[00:12:52] like it feels like the whole world just gonna be you know of just in the Middle East anyway

[00:12:57] and and barren and desolate just in the Middle East I guess yeah put yourselves in a ray against

[00:13:04] Babylon all around all you who bend the bow shoot at her spare no arrows for she has sinned

[00:13:12] against the Lord shout against her all around she has given her hand her foundations have fallen

[00:13:19] her walls are thrown down for it is the vengeance of the Lord it I mean it's God

[00:13:30] in the Bible used the Babylonians as a tool to do his bidding according to the Bible

[00:13:39] to destroy his people the Israelites who he was pissed off at and now he's like how dare you destroy

[00:13:44] my right no I mean like it's kind of bullshit it's not kind of bullshit it's straight up yeah

[00:13:52] yeah take vengeance on her as she has done so due to her damn okay cut off the sower from Babylon

[00:14:03] and him who handles the sickle at harvest time for fear of the oppressing sword everyone shall

[00:14:10] turn to his own people and everyone shall flee to his own land Israel is like scattered sheep

[00:14:18] the lions have driven him away first the king of Assyria devoured him now at last this nebulous

[00:14:27] nether king of Babylon has broken his bones yeah and it seems like every time they get

[00:14:33] quote unquote devoured God's like you're gonna come back stronger than ever yeah don't worry

[00:14:37] and then they never do right like okay right they suck more all the time therefore thus

[00:14:44] says the lord of hosts the god of israel behold I will punish the king of Babylon and his land

[00:14:52] as I have punished the king of Assyria but I will bring back Israel to his home and he shall feed

[00:14:59] on carmel and bishon his soul shall be satisfied on mount ephrum and gilead and those days and in

[00:15:09] that time says the lord the iniquity of Israel shall be sought but there shall be none and the sins

[00:15:17] of Judah but they shall not be found for I will pardon those whom I preserve that's lucky that's

[00:15:24] nice yeah go up against the land of maratham against it and against the inhabitants of peacock

[00:15:33] waste and utterly destroy them says the lord so okay and do according to all that I have commanded you

[00:15:41] a sound of battle is in the land and of great destruction how the hammer of the whole earth

[00:15:49] has been cut apart and broken how Babylon has become a desolation among the nations

[00:15:55] I have laid a snare for you you have indeed been trapped oh Babylon and you were not aware

[00:16:04] you have been found and also caught because you have contended against the lord no they did exactly

[00:16:12] what he wanted them to do but he used them yeah they allowed themselves you ever you ever think

[00:16:19] like the stuff that we're reading is just like it's purely like propaganda well yeah right like

[00:16:24] I mean there's no TV you can't share news articles right so like this is just like if they get they

[00:16:30] send these messages off to their their foes they're like our god's going to destroy you you know and

[00:16:37] maybe since people believe in gods back then maybe that's a thing that people you know got scared

[00:16:42] about or whatever yeah you know or made them think twice at the very very least like well

[00:16:50] maybe we shouldn't do it because I don't know they do say their god is big right right he does have

[00:16:56] helichases just in case maybe we shouldn't attack you know we've heard about his stinky breath right

[00:17:01] yeah the lord has opened his armory and has brought out the weapons of his indignation

[00:17:08] for this is the work of the lord god of hosts in the land of the chaudians come against her

[00:17:14] from the farthest border open her store houses cast her up as heaps of ruins and destroy her utterly

[00:17:23] let nothing of her be left slay all her bulls let them go down to the slaughter whoa to them

[00:17:35] for their day has come the time of their punishment seems very wasteful to just destroy

[00:17:41] all of their livestock yeah why why does it and just just because you have take joy in destroying

[00:17:47] things right that's what it feels like it's not nice no I like animals let's just let them right

[00:17:52] yeah the voice of those who flee and escape from the land of Babylon declares in Zion the vengeance

[00:18:00] of the lord our god the vengeance of his temple call together the archers against Babylon all

[00:18:08] you who bend the bow in that's what I said no in camp against it all around let none of them escape

[00:18:18] repay her according to her work according to all she is done due to her for she has been proud

[00:18:26] against the lord against the holy one of israel therefore her young man men not just one man

[00:18:35] all the men right the young ones yeah shall fall in the streets and all her men of war shall be cut

[00:18:41] off in that day says the lord behold I'm against you oh most haughty ones says the lord god of hosts

[00:18:51] but you have to interrupt here for just a second yeah because I have to stay I have to say this

[00:18:55] because it's an ongoing thing with us this is completely off subject okay our fucking cat

[00:19:02] our fucking cat oh my god she will we literally no matter how long we put it off the second that we

[00:19:10] hit record that's when she'll go to the litter box and she's not yeah forever and ever even though

[00:19:16] she's not done anything no and so we're trying to like block the sound and then she goes over and

[00:19:21] meows real loud and tries to get into all the cabinets merely because we're doing our podcast

[00:19:27] yeah it's like a ritual yeah like and it never happens unless we're doing our podcast seriously

[00:19:33] it's the only time right so annoying okay sorry anyway I had to throw that out there because I

[00:19:39] I just had to go deal with it because we have to open up a cabinet so that she doesn't get in this

[00:19:43] other thing and no yeah whatever we have to allow her one thing to let her think that she's one

[00:19:51] yeah in order to keep her from the other things right yeah it's so stupid she has we love her though

[00:20:10] the time that I will punish you yeah the most proud shall stumble and fall and no one will raise

[00:20:19] him up I will kindle a fire in his cities and it will devour all around him boring I'm what it is

[00:20:28] it is like how often do we have to hear the same rhetoric die die die death death death I will pound

[00:20:36] you da da da da I remember early on when we started first started reading about all this

[00:20:40] death and destruction and and vengeance that God was was taking upon other people right

[00:20:46] and it used to like be a little bit disturbing how disturbing it was right right it used to be

[00:20:53] a little bit shocking you see a little bit oh I didn't realize God was so like

[00:20:58] um just what's the word like he's so violent violent and petty and mean yeah and and but

[00:21:09] it's almost numbing at this point how crappy this God is he's like never kind no and if he if he

[00:21:17] does a nice thing it's never out of kindness it's always like there will be strings attached right

[00:21:24] right I do expect you to suck my dick for the ages well and he loves to create like we had all

[00:21:29] these covenants way back when too where we make these like you know multi-generational deals

[00:21:35] with God right that we're expected to hold our end of the bargain up for all time yeah and and God

[00:21:42] meanwhile um sees us fuck up once and he's like eh fuck you yeah and I'm going to hold 10 generations

[00:21:48] responsible and then you can maybe get back at my good graces but only briefly because then

[00:21:53] I'll probably want to kill you again soon after that so right right it's just it's so

[00:21:58] he's so mean and and short-sighted and just small and petty not a very good God not a very good God

[00:22:04] honest with you yeah I think this God has no leadership skills none honestly none whatsoever um

[00:22:10] some of your shitty bosses have had better leadership skills yeah that makes me laugh

[00:22:16] because they were not good right yeah so that's not a compliment to God

[00:22:24] says the Lord of hosts the children of Israel were oppressed along with the children of Judah

[00:22:43] the Lord of hosts is his name did you in case we forgot it's like God's walking around going

[00:22:55] about him you oh oh it's me and you would think that if he was as powerful a being as he claims he is

[00:23:01] there will be no need to mention your name as often as he does to start a sentence you know

[00:23:28] now keep in mind we did say Jeremiah's name at the beginning of this chapter so it could be

[00:23:32] Jeremiah relaying this message here so okay I'm just saying you know I'm trying to give

[00:23:38] some credit to you know the possible way that is being said the whole thing is stupid and

[00:23:43] I hate it I know that's all yeah a sword is against the Chaldean says the Lord against the

[00:23:48] inhabitants of Babylon and against her princes and her wise men a sword is against the soothsayers

[00:23:55] and they will be fools a sword is against her mighty men and they will be dismayed okay a

[00:24:02] sword is against their horses against their chariots and against all the mixed peoples

[00:24:07] who are in her midst they will become like women oh my god you know how women be you don't want to

[00:24:15] be like women cool a sword is against her treasures and they will be robbed oh no okay a drought

[00:24:26] is against her waters and they will be dried up because that's what drought means right for it

[00:24:32] is the land of carved images and they are insane with their idols it sounds like you are insane

[00:24:39] with jealousy yeah yeah therefore the wild desert beast shall dwell there with the jackals and the

[00:24:47] ostriches shall dwell in it who ostriches I didn't think that's the first time I mentioned them

[00:24:52] yeah I didn't even know that was a bible creature right yeah we should we should keep track like

[00:24:56] a tally of all the different animals they mentioned right yeah I kind of I know there's

[00:25:00] some weird ones that are still coming up so I kind of like the ostrich because their legs are

[00:25:04] stupid right yeah it shall be inhabited no more forever nor shall it be dwelt in from generation

[00:25:11] to generation I think people live there yeah yeah as god overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their

[00:25:19] neighbors says the lord member that land I do remember it we just talked about it again

[00:25:25] yeah I mispronounced it yes Sodom instead of Sodom so no one shall reside there nor son of man dwell

[00:25:34] in it behold a people shall come from the north and a great nation and many kings shall be raised up

[00:25:40] from the ends of the earth they shall hold hold hold hold they shall hold the bow or bow

[00:25:52] yes the bow the bow they shall hold I'm having a dyslexia or something moment where I'm like

[00:25:59] what is worse shoot a bow a ship has a bow okay I'm just you know I know how to help you with that one

[00:26:07] but also a tree has a bow and when the bow breaks the baby falls down which I never understood

[00:26:13] that song why would you put a baby in a tree because it's it's like the original um

[00:26:18] you know how they have those machines that rock your baby for you you know if you find the right

[00:27:07] kind of like that's why God's real because they wrote a whole book about him right therefore

[00:27:12] they are cruel and shall not show mercy their voice shall roar like the sea they shall ride on

[00:27:19] horses these random northern people that are gonna take over things from that okay set in array like

[00:27:26] a man for the battle against you oh daughter of Babylon fucking Babylon right the king of

[00:27:34] Babylon has heard the report about them and his hands grow feeble look at those feeble hands kind of

[00:29:40] shepherd who will withstand me I'm the best I'm awesome he's always alluded to like the line of

[00:29:47] David so I'm assuming that we're gonna get back to that at some point he's just like

[00:29:51] what you're gonna do about it who's gonna stop me right I'm the biggest baddest badass yeah

[00:29:57] therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that he has taken against Babylon and his purposes that he

[00:30:05] has proposed against the land of the Chaudians surely the least of the flock shall draw them out

[00:30:13] surely he will make their dwelling place desolate with them don't call me surely

[00:30:20] at the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth trembles and the cry is heard among the nations

[00:30:27] the end okay all right you heard it here for some random northern tribe is gonna is gonna take over

[00:30:34] Babylon at some point probably 70 years down the road because that's what they told us earlier

[00:30:38] it's gonna be 70 years of captivity at least so it's gonna be a while but that's that's apparently

[00:30:44] gonna happen I mean according to the Bible did it happen I have no idea I have no idea

[00:30:50] I mean you know what furthermore I don't really give a shit no I don't either it if it did happen

[00:30:56] like it's saying it happened I almost have to believe that this was like written post right

[00:31:03] that happening because whatever it's just this this whole thing's silly it's so silly yeah it

[00:31:10] just strikes me as why are we doing this again you know what I we started off Jeremiah with hope
